"No form of art goes beyond ordinary consciousness as film does, straight to our emotions, deep into the twilight room of the soul."
When I think about the essence of cinema and directing, only one person comes in mind and that is Ingmar Bergman. Personally, for me, he is the origin of films. His works are breathtakingly beautiful, every theme he touches is always haunting.
His life is equally astonishing and I can "proudly" say that many qualities I share with Bergman. I just hope to become half the man that he is.
If you have never seen or heard of Bergman and you love real cinema to death, I cannot recommend his movies enough.
He is the inspiration for many and many filmmakers.
***
The Essence of Cinema is the series that I will be doing throughout the year about every filmmaker that I admire starting from Bergman to Tarantino. So, if you like the idea give this a like and share with cinema lovers.

"Do you understand more now?" "No, less. Or, more precisely, not worse. But I know less about myself then I did 10 years ago. It's true" That hit hard. The truth is the more we experience, the more conflicting things we learn the more scary, painful and innocence lacking the world shows it self to be. We desire to know more but it does not give us anymore joy or satisfaction, only more despair in searching for more desire that we shall never get.

Great work, his Hour of the Wolf is still the most distressing; disturbing psychological horror film I have ever seen in my life. Gave me shivers for weeks, after I saw it when I thought about moments or scenes in it.

Discovered this channel through your GoT vids and honestly haven't seen a lot of your work and haven't left a YT comment in literal years (maybe a decade?). Just wanted to say I think this series will be great and greatly appreciate this tribute to what may be my favorite director (living or dead).

I've been following your work for some time now. I never leave comments, this might be my first actually but this series might divide your subscribers so a little bit of support could be welcome. Video editing is so time consuming, I'm not sure people realize the level of screening, preparation, thoughts going into this. It's just astronomical. Each frame, cut, music beat is thought off, nothing is left to chance. I would just hope to be half as good as you! Anyway, this will be a great series. I loved your more thoughtful videos like the Fall of the house of Usher, heartbreaking, and Vincent. In this series, would you consider doing one about Kubrick and David Lynch ?

Have you ever seen the Avatar: The Last Airbender series? You make some of the most incredible character videos I've ever seen and that show has some of the strongest and well developed characters in TV history. If anyone could do it justice it would be you. I can understand if you're not a big fan of animation, but trust me, that show is worth it.
