What a wonderful video this is! Perhaps the best demo I’ve seen on the MPC Keys outside of beat making. It sounds like it is going to be a great contender with the main workstations.

Great interview, like always. This keyboard is everything I’ve been wanting in a workstation for a very long time. As I told you guys after I bought the MPC X last year, we essentially needed a version of the MPCX with a keybed, though I would probably rather have an 88 key weighted bed… But that’s not as important as the best sounds you can possibly put in any instrument/workstation… you guys nailed with over 6000 sounds, all of them being very high-quality. What I would love to see you guys do in future software revisions… If it’s possible… Is allow for third-party VST’s to be installed and used, as is. Meaning everything that’s been on the market forever, specifically I would love for you guys to team up with east/west sounds which I consider the best on the market or simply allow us to use their VST’s and be able to save them as sound files/libraries to the unit itself. Which would make importing and using sound files as simple as it is on any PC DAW. Also allow them to be added to our favorites. It would be a win-win for both of you, as you would gain the ability for users to buy and use another 40,000+ sound files that were recorded at Abbey Road studio with some of the best instruments and musicians in the world. It would benefit them, as users could and would buy their VST collections or sign up for their monthly program that is $20 a month and you can use everyone of their sounds. The most important thing that you guys nailed, is usability and workflow. Workflow is the most important aspect of songwriting. The faster it is and your instrument or computer allows you to create, the easier it is for you to not only get down the songs in your head… But, do it quickly so as not to forget God‘s gift when it is presented to you in your mind. Without that ability, it is too easy for one to Forget and become frustrated with the process. Every hoop you have to jump through in order to record the song, is another hurdle that could ultimately lead you to walk away from the project due to technology related frustration. Which ultimately is the number one killer of creativity. So, thank you for creating the keyboard everybody has always wanted for the past 40 years and somehow eluded some of the biggest producers of workstations in the world. Who seemed more focused on getting a keyboard out for the next fiscal year as quickly as possible, so that the investors and the company benefit financially… which essentially gives the customer the same keyboard they had bought from them the year before, with just a few new bells and whistle‘s… But nothing groundbreaking…. Instead of focusing on the end user and their customer satisfaction that ultimately is going to bring them back to buy more products from you. Something that a lot of corporations seem to forget… all they see is profits and bonuses. So again, thank you.

@2:00 FACTS! It bring new life to your playing when your sound is right. Not crazy about the key bed but the sounds more than make up for that. Hope a 76key version comes out with a better key bed. Might buy again!

Yes it comes with great sounds but the beauty of the Mpc is that you can literally sample any other classic keyboard and vsts note for note with multiple layers and velocity so you can literally have everything you want and need in this keyboard it gets no better than this

How can you disable the sustain pedal in just one track. Example on the right hand I have a piano and a pad and on the left hand a bass. I want to disable the sustain pedal on the bass while keeping it on on the piano and pad. Is there a way?

Good video. Great playing by Mike. The sounds are impressive. A bit disappointed with akai not putting drawbars/faders/sliders on the workstation. For mixing, organ, certain synths, it’s much better to have physical control. It looks like you can’t multitouch with the virtual drawbars on the screen. Also wondering if the sequencer can also be linear instead of just pattern or step. Just wondering about workflow.

I'm starting to realize even as a beginner piano player it may be worth it to invest in a used fender rhodes or upright piano because in the long run its nothing like being able to just have something that just works. May take some maintenance but over time kinda like guitars you can't go wrong with it.

how can i put all my different samples in duff tempos on diff pads jn the same tempo?

I might get all kinds of heat from this, but I honestly think the Piano sounds are better than those on my Yamaha Montage.

Does the instrument read general midi, e.g. by inserting midi, e.g. Lady Gaga Poker Face will the instrument read it? and then "process" it, adjust the colors?

Would you happen to know if the pads on the new keyboard are the same size as the MPCX? I'm hoping they are, but they look smaller on the keyboard. I can't find those exact specs anywhere. Also, what is the length out of box? All I can find is the shipping dimensions.

I wonder how someone like me who is blind can use this? I know this has a touch screen, but can a lot of functions be controlled by using the hardware on the keyboard? Also, any easy way of getting in contact with the company? Would love to help make this accessible for all to enjoy.

I don't know why the sounds are rather thinny to my ears? But, thank you for great interview for giving another school of thought and ideas.

Though there are some nice synths, pianos, e.pianos & a smattering of other usable patches...there's nothing ground-breaking here. There's a lot of heavy-hyped marketing on Akai's part(claiming that this is the ultimate alternative to desktop workstations, as well as being the top-of-the-heap of hardware workstations)...which is of course, patently absurd. Though the MPC Keys 61 does have some abilities within it's sequencer & sampling engine that other brands do not have(Akai has it's own shortcomings, which is disturbing.) This keyboard was designed to run plug-ins(which is all uncompressed audio)...so the built-in 4GB of RAM is a crippling limitation(which explains why only 8 plug-ins can be used in a project at a time)....wtf!? This makes it virtually impossible to create a comprehensive and polished song(such as would be easily manageable on a desktop PC.) There's no NI Kontakt-level sounds in this keyboard, so what possible use would this be for anyone other than beat-makers? Of course though....you get what you pay for and since the MPC's price tag is only $1,900...it all figures. I really wanted to believe the hype and I love the concept of this keyboard, but it falls too short for me.....so I would have to pass on this(unless Akai ups their game a bit.)

The next upgrade from Akai is to port Michael Patrick's awesome playing skills ....

I guess having boundaries imposed on you will force you to change how and what you play... but I think I'll stick with the almost infinite realm of DAWS. Not to say it's not cool, a bring a brand new train coming out would look awesome and would probably ride awesome but it doesn't mean it's gonna be the most efficient Nora the most people gonna use it
