Join us for a discussion about how relations between the United States and Europe may evolve after the US Midterm elections.
The outcome of the U.S. Midterm elections can have major effects around the world. The make up of the U.S. Congress will determine the ability of President Joe Biden to hold on to and push through legislation to support his agenda and to help his government to fulfill other campaign promises.
The outcome of this election will also set the tone for relations beyond the U.S. borders. It will influence relations with major allies, Europe as a whole as well as key members states, both in terms of trade relations and economic ties as well as politically.
Europe and the United States are key partners on the world stage and issues on the table include:
• NATO: The U.S. leadership and current involvement in Ukraine, incl. continued support of Ukraine's military
• Collaboration with the EU on technology and innovation, and concretely the future of the EU/US Trade & Technology Council
• Environment: Support for a Green Transition on both sides of the Atlantic, incl. joint efforts to upgrade ailing Infrastructure
• United Nations: Collaboration on the global stage incl. in the UN Security Council
• Trade/Tarrifs and WTO Reforms
• Collaboration on Sanctions to address global stability
• Coordinated Monetary policy to address Inflation on both sides of the Atlantic
• Taxation/Business: Global Minimum Tax and other reforms planned in the U.S. and across Europe
Our panel will share their views on how the new reality in the U.S. Congress will shape transatlantic relations and collaboration going forward.
