You can play this game for free. That makes it free to play. Not sure why to nitpick on this if there's tons of other stuff to nitpick on, but go on :)

I'm currently on a trial account, wanted to do some exploration. Long story short, it seems that I cannot really do that because I cannot even train Cloaking. Therefore, it is not really about the ships, but the skills that are unlocked on plexed accounts. It really limits some of the things you can do(i get that, they still want people to subscribe) and I just hope that new players won't hit this wall I just hit and stop playing the game.

The challenge there is that they have to be careful with how experienced players will use this to their advantage - unlimited cloaking alts spread through every system in the galaxy would be horrendous (although the tears would be epic).

False. There are no meaningful consequences in a game in order to draw a parallel with reality.

I've played it for over 2 years, and I never said the in-game consequences are not meaningful in-game. What I said is that a parallel can't be drawn between virtual actions and human action in reality for a number of reasons, like moral constraints and self-preservation.

Bardo Gamer that's fair enough, but I do think eve mirrors a free society in many aspects...it's economy incorporates many assumptions made in the model of a free market with perfect competition, and the sandbox politics with little to no constraints allows people to do what they really want if they weren't restricted by society's conventions...not to say the same person would go out and dd a city if he were allowed, it's not a 1:1 parallel as you say...but certain aspects do match

I went on Sisi to watch some of them and they were beautiful and kind of made more sense than the ones we have had up to now.

Mattis Finstad Hansen especially capital explosions would just suddenly make a huge wreck pop up without a transition...now the explosion is just big and bright enough to conceal the transition, very nice imo

It happens that along with free2play they have developed a new New player experience. Fully narrated and with safety rails. I tried some of it on the test server. A big improvement I think.

Plenty of corps, even null-sec corps like mine, welcome new players and will help teach them the ropes, how to make money, how to PvP etc; we even provide free into-to-pvp ships to new players!

I completely agree with there are some people tries to help newbies, but also there are many people try to kill them as well. For me it was bit tough to understand and tell newbies why high sec is not safe from PVP. EVE is really different from other RPGs and it seems thats why many newbies tries it for short period of time and just leave.

I agree with you that it would be bit different if eve was easier game, but still it is hard game to get into.

I can do that now. I have over 5 billion in ships and 40 billion liquid isk. However to even dream of making enough to keep plexing ( I have 3 accounts.. small by many Eve Players standards ) you need to go fairly high in training. I use to use 2 Gila to farm regular sites in Null. 2 Rattlesnakes to run event sights like the Maze. Trust me, I could play for free.. HOWEVER.... Eve is a soul sucking game... you either have no life outside work and every day needs.. or you suck. I won eve. I don't want to be tempted to go back.

a reinforced node can handle a few hundred players in a system without any real lag or dilation. Doesn't really slow down till it breaks 500-600 players in one fight

You must be using a toaster because Ive been in 600 player battles and had no tidi nor lag

ITPalGame I'm in War with PL NC. PH and Co. We are the defender Co2 and Test and defend our space since 5 week, both sides fielding easy up to 700 ppl for each side. Tidi never heard of it during this war. Maybe first 10 min in a start of huge battle. CCP worked hard on it to improved the server the last year's. Eve is more as battle with 4k ppl.

Mines i am waiting for the battle on your keepstar, it will be pure cancer with 1% tidi

housam el-din talaat I have grave doubts about that will happened that Panfan got balls to attack an armed Keepstar. But on scale watch the battle of PM Keepstar, Tidi and lag was decent for 3500 ppl with over 500 scaps and caps.

Nope, Enigma used to look like a bright red Daredevil, then they changed it to be basically a variant to the Polaris Frigate :)

4 months. 4 accounts with different focuses. Still PvE was tedious and boring af. And PvP was a simple "a bigger blob ganks lesser ones". An old toothache can be more fun than this.

Quantity is a quality of its own. The more people who try it, the greater chance there is of someone liking it and sticking with it. Not every game appeals to everyone, but having a starting point for everyone that doesn't pressure you to subscribe so you have time to try more than a couple things can only be good for EVE.

Nothing to worry about. It won't work out. If you read the stuff on their site the Alpha clone state is so unappealing it's completely non-viable for vets who can't afford to pay (especially if the preferred ships don't match the faction they chose all those years ago) and a wheel spinning slog for any new players with the training limits and doubled training speed. There will be an initial surge and then once alphas realize how shitty they have it they'll leave or sub. But let's face it. This isn't really for people willing to sub. It's basically a trial account, but EXTREMELY shitty in just about every way. Which is bad because that'll be the first impression new players have of EVE. You're even "punished" for the faction you pick. Everyone might as well be Gallente (or maybe Minmatar) because they are the "best". If you don't want to be pigeon holed into just armor or just shields. But I think the Gallente have a superior line-up overall in the T1 frigate to cruiser range. The Algos is objectively the best T1 destroyer. Some would even say the Vexor is the best T1 cruiser too; and the Tristan the best T1 frigate. High sec exploration is a joke and without cloaking exploration in low to WH isn't practically feasible. Mining would be another monetary dead end as you can't acquire better ships than a venture. I don't know WTF CCP is thinking is going to happen with these garbage Alpha clones.

Innocent_Bystander Yeah, that's pretty much all it's for. Honestly, I'm not sure it's even all that great for a ganking alt. You can't train T2 guns. I noticed Amarr can't train missiles. LOL@Dragoon and Arbitrator. And although Caldari and Minmatar have ships with drones they can't maximize their performance (or the number they can field) compared to Gallente and Amarr. A Navy Osprey can field 5 drones, but Caldari can only train Drones up to III, and L. drones up to I. Does CCP even know what they're doing?

I don't want to piss on your parade, but I'd advise starting up your skill queue, and then forgetting about the game for about 4 months. The alpha clone thing is terrible. The biggest hurdle in the game is the first few months starting out from scratch. And they're doubling that time to get over that first hurdle when compared to omega clones. You might like the game, or you might hate it. But I'd wager the first few months will, unfortunately, not be pleasant, though with Alpha Clone you can leave it going and come back to it a few months down the road after the skills train up. edit: To clarify, all the fun you hear about only kicks in after you've gotten your skills trained up to 3s/4s in most cases. Before they hit that level it's more akin to a paint drying simulator.

Please don't allow the Dogsplained to shit in your Kool-Aid. You can have fun in EVE within 24 hours of starting to play, and as the new Alpha clones don't use some higher skills, training for what you need will be a lot faster. Things like upgraded weapons systems, which can take more than a month to train. As an Alpha clone you don't use these, so no one will bat an eye if you don't have them. The requirements for them are completely waved, along with a lot of other things. My group ingame has the policy of never denying new players to a fleet, regardless of what they are flying. If you show up in the most basic, tiny ship, we will gladly welcome you. New players in small, fast ships can act as scouts, guards, or even as tackle to pin down an enemy fleet. You don't need to be a part of the mainline ships to be a huge help, and you don't need a long skill training to have fun. If you do join the game, send an ingame mail to Galileo Shihari. Galileo Gaming It IS a slow start though. Don't get me wrong, it's fun after it gets started. But the "getting started" phase was rough, as with all MMOs. And doubling the training time does NOT assist in getting people into the game. I'm not opposed to more people playing, I just think CCP failed to realize why a lot of people quit in the first few months. ;) More pilots on field will always mean more fun for everyone.

Dogsplained In my opinion an Alpha player isn't subjected to the same skill hell, simply because a maxed out Alpha is racial Cruiser IV with some T2 mods. Even with a doubled training time a new player can have everything they need in a matter of 2 weeks, easy.
