@AlexOnStreets
@AlexOnStreets 4 года назад
MARVIN LEE If you want cleaner iso results, bokeh and more background separation then yes. But remember these things don't apply to everything when on the street doing candids. If doing portraits though then yes, the 1.4 is much better. It depends entirely on what you want though. ;)

Lens hoods are important, this was very helpful xD man, I wish Australia had more passive subjects, the amount of confrontation is depressing. But I do find that if you have a purpose (like youtube content) it's easier to break ice rather than just saying 'I'm a street photographer taking subjects of cool subjects' xD looking forward to part 2!

I just think your video concept suits best to review the 27mm f2.8 since at the moment I can't find anyone on RU-vid doing real world street test for that lens apart from Digitalrev's Fuji X-M1 review, which is a very old video, really. Awesome video ! Just Sub'd ! I need to bring the 23 1.4 out for street photography. I keep reverting to the 23f2 and X100V for obvious reasons . I always forget how sharp this lens can be as seen in your sample photos. Keep up the awesome work
@AlexOnStreets
@AlexOnStreets 4 года назад
Ya I really thought a lot about the 23f2 vs the 1.4 for a long time. In the end, because I do portraits at night too, I went for this one. And it was before the Viltrox came out. But still, I got a good deal on this lens so I am still comfortable with it. ;) Give it a go!

Great video, Alex! My local store had a used 23mmf1.4 and I almost pulled the trigger, but I already have the 23mmf2 with WR and I quite enjoy shooting street in the rain, especially now in the fall/winter months to come, so I‘ll stick to that for now. Let‘s see if that‘s still true after Part 2 😂
@AlexOnStreets
@AlexOnStreets 4 года назад
Mind. Art. Creativity. Ah thanks! Ya I think the 23f2wr is so great. I really had a hard time choosing between them. In the end I do paid portraits at night and indoor events sometimes. So that was the deciding factor for me. I hope to do the 23f2wr review in the future though! Thanks again and always for watching.

Regarding your comments on hoods, I would love a plastic cylindrical screw-in one like the metal one you showed - it would absorbs bumps better than metal, rather than transmitting shocks to the lens and camera. Think of it like a car’s crumple zone.
@AlexOnStreets
@AlexOnStreets 4 года назад
Ah yes! Thank you for commenting about hoods. This is my jam. Ya actually I do still use my plastic one for that very reason. I would also say the square metal ones will certainly be better for weather resistance but it's true if you bump into hard objects the plastic is better. While if you bump into people the metal is better. Maybe you hurt someone with the metal hood but your lens is more important than these mortal human flesh bags. Perhaps the best solution is if we had a plastic square concave lens hood. 1 like = 1 prayer for damaged lens hoods. Thanks for watching.

Nice video Alex! Thanks! Only a minor question: do you feel the "Eorefo Camera Strap Vintage 100cm Nylon Climbing Rope" you use is more suitable/versatile than the original Fujifilm strap that comes with the X-Pro 3, especially to use as a wrist strap?
@HossDiaph
@HossDiaph 3 года назад
great video Alex. What film simulation are you using? is it classic neg? I like the rendering of photos you showed. I owned 23 f2 that I hated, its bokeh was quite ugly and its fall-off nothing special. The 23mm f1.4 maybe has less bokeh than a 35mm 1.4 full frame lens, it's flat like you said, but it has some kind of 3Dimensonality that I can't understand. Maybe it's the gradual transition to focus, anyway it gives emphasis to the subject without sacrificing its background and environment.

@@AlexOnStreets for video......yes it does, the f2 doesn't
@AlexOnStreets
@AlexOnStreets 3 года назад
@@TheOneAboveAll_ Bro for video sure. I mean this was never meant to be a video lens from the start when it was released and Fuji didn't care about video at all. This review focused it on photo because thats what it is meant for. Even if it does have the clutch focus ring with hard stops making it an awesome manual focus video lens. But for photo.. I own the f2 aswell. What camera do you use? If it's and older camera. It might. I only ever used it with my XH1 in boost mode with grip and XPro 3 which is ofcourse lightning fast. If you are focusing in low light you need to remember to focus on more contrasting areas of the frame. The newer cameras have more phase detect AF areas and you will experience less hunting with any of the lenses. But use even the f2wr's on ie. XT1 or any of the mid-range Fuji cameras and you will definitely have an issue with those because they are almost always using contrast detect in low light which is garbage. Point is, don't blame the lens, blame your camera. And if you are still having problems on an XT3 or later then you need to work out your AF settings cause I literally never missed a shot with this lens when being deliberate. It's probably one of the most reliable lenses I have for photos. If you really care about video get the 16-55 f2.8wr or the new 16-80 f4wr ois.
