Wrapping up season 4 with the end of the Daleks! No really, this is the last Dalek story ever. (This was recorded when I was sick so I'm sorry for my blocked nose making me sound like an Australian). #DoctorWho #Daleks #EvilOfTheDaleks
I believe the mirrors thing was based on the principle that light reflects light if viewed through a mirror. Therefore, if multiple mirrors reflected the same source of light, it would create an environment in which one could travel through time. Something like that, anyway. I mean, it's clearly nonsense, but given that Maxtible was after the secret of alchemy, it's not a huge stretch to believe he'd swallow any old tosh. I agree that certain aspects of this story don't hold up to close scrutiny, but it's still my favourite story of Season 4. It's a bonkers premise told completely straight, for which it is to be applauded. The main reason for the Daleks supposed demise in Evil was that Terry Nation was trying to sell a Dalek series to America. If successful, it would have denied Doctor Who any further use of them. This is despite the fact that the BBC were approached to co-finance the pilot with one of the US networks. Sadly, that pilot never got made, but it was later adapted for audio by Big Finish as The Destroyers, which I believe is currently available on Spotify. At least, I think it is. Finally, nice callback to the Vicki/Victoria confusion. Well remembered!
I don't know what to comment, really. A great review as always, but I haven't seen this story as it is not on Britbox and I don't have the DVD :( Edit: you can reverse the covers on the dvds to make them more consistent on the shelf. I personally think it would look better if you did that on the newer animations :)
