So this is basically like the story of Bioshock. I mean in that both are similar, the floating cities and the idea of Rapture. It's quite interesting, and I apologize here for bringing games up into the "discussion", but I think that it's quite interesting how games, and some very well made games sort of project reality in this sense of like having common ground. Bioshock is an example I think relevant to this video relative to the subject matter but so is for instance System Shock 2. Both games which were made in rough lines by the same person. Like you really had to be in the know I think to know about for instance floating cities but Bioshock showed it to us. Bioshock and other games too, not many but there are certainly some, have so much subject matter in them that even today for instance on RU-vid there are many videos analyzing it, or them. Same goes I think for something like AI's and space stations, or sort of like colonization or we could even say corporate greed in relation to the other aforementioned game.

There has been occasions where someone with too much money goes on about building a civilization out in space. My view has always been that they are free to go so long as they understand that they are not welcome back. If some yahoo wants to spend an ungodly amount of money to live among the storms and the thirty foot waves, inconsistent supply and no production, then we'll happily allow them to fund the employment of communities to build their dreams/nightmares rather than let the money just sit in their wallets. Fools and their money are soon parted, so let's hear it for wealth re-distribution. Seriously, the first multi-day weather event and they'll start attacking each other for what little supplies they would have. They are totally dependent on the infrastructure under their feet.

He's most known, or at least I am most familiar with him, for the invention of the term 'arcology' as well as the building project named Arcosanti, which resides a bit between Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona. Arcology is a fusing of the word 'architecture' and 'ecology,' and, as you may guess, is the practice of sustainably building with regard to the surrounding ecosystems and environment. I think you should take a look into his ideas around that, as you'll likely find it an interesting topic. Also, if for some reason you find yourself in Arizona, book yourself a stay at Arcosanti. I stayed a couple nights on a cross country trip and found it to be a wonderful getaway, as well as a great break from the standard hotels/motels/airbnbs etc. one finds here.
