The community for this game is just absolutely, wonderfully crazy. A game, that's not an rpg, promotes roleplaying. Fantastic.

There’s a reason Helldivers are thawed out from pods. Fun fact, that should be noted. Once a helldiver has completed their training, they are put on ice in cryo until they are needed to be deployed. That means once a Helldiver is thawed out, all they are given are their immediate orders without context or reason. Couple that with loyalty conditioning prior to being frozen, you can imagine there would be little room whatsoever to question orders or even consider anything other than what you’re being told right after waking up. That being said, the only good bug is a dead bug. Humanity first.

Theirs actually a unique subset of Helldivers known as Rangers who are specifically trained in Reconnaissance and ASSASSINATION. These Rangers practice the same Spec Ops training as the original 50 Helldivers from before the unification of Super Earth. And what was the first operation the original 50 Helldivers conducted? The conquest and dismantlement of the Socialist Government of Northman's Creek.

Dropping the bit for a second, if I had my dream scinario for a later phase of the game, the humans would be put on the back foot, super earth gets desperate, and overrides every current players mission objective and command them to start killing civilians. The goal being to make super earth seem desperate and having the helldivers do jobs that their super elite forces would usually do. The players choice here changing the threat posed. A lot of players refusing to shoot the civilians creating a larger rebel group. Have it be a big media literacy test for the community and give the opportunity to add a new front to the war.

Us being the "bad guys" is a fresh change from what all other games do. That's why this game took the market over so quickly.

Weird I remember that the cyborgs got in the war because they declared independence from superearth and superearth's goverment made a false flag operation to declare them terrorists, but saying there was no reason to commit such an attack when rebelling against a fascist goverment doesnt make sense to me

Fun fact the surviving cyborgs after helldivers 1 found out how to transfer there minds to robots and now are robots that do follow a central computer but still have felling like fear and anger based of my research, yeah so the cyborgs are the automatons

I agree that it's annoying to have to sift through videos or reddit to find out this information. I know from playing Helldivers 1 and winning multiple campaigns that we ended up doing some pretty mean things to the enemy races, but that information is somewhat dated with new things coming out. I wish for once people would drop the role-playing and be open to actually discussing the lore without going "traitor i report u."

As a Helldiver, I am human. As they are bots and bugs, they are not human. I will fight non-humans, so humanity prospers. "Our way of life, galaxy wide; paved with the skulls of those who died!" - Super Earth Anthem.

Finally, a good lore video that isn’t put through a “propaganda” filter that a lot of other Helldivers 2 lore videos does. When I want to learn some lore, I don’t want to listen to half-truth/misinformation. While making propaganda can be fun, it’s counter intuitive to making a lore video. Thank you for making this video!

Honestly, I think that the way wiki writers and the devs are purposefully obfuscating facts in character is super based. If you want to look to the truth behind the lore you need to actually do some research that makes you feel like some outcast dissident, it's pretty cool and even better reinforces the satire of it all.

The dead humans in terminid sectors might still just being killed by bugs, it is just that they used a generic model, I find these corpses in hunter nests in giant piles at times, hunters seem to take prey into their nests, anyway, they most likely of not died by Super Earth's hand and you are overthinking that part

Objectively speaking, the only evil faction are the cyborgs/automatons. Especially when you see what the bots do to humans, harvesting them and torturing them to the point where some bots have enough humanity to beg helldivers to be killed. The Cyborgs were a rebellion, NOT a seperate civilization. The Automatons also don't allow full automomy within each unit, as seen how some bots beg to be killed and apologize to helldivers. The bugs were already an interstellar species colonzing dozens of worlds, they must also have a navy as hell-diver super destroyers are only for the helldivers, and there is a seperate army and navy in Super Earth. I can only assume that the navy must be fighting against space bugs and automaton warships. The bugs were the only victims in this war if we're being honest, the Illuminate were actively fucking with humanity, but not in an a truly agressive way. Also, the Illuminate DID have WMD's because ANY weapon can be used for mass killing or mass destruction if used correctly, not in the traditional sense of nuclear weapons, or chemical weapons, but the Illuminate DID have weaponary capable of more destruction than human weapons, thus making them, technically speaking, Weapons of Mass Destruction. Humanity had 0 reason to attack the bugs, and I honestly believe that harvesting bug corpses could have been a trade treaty made with the terminds. War with Illuminate and Cyborgs makes sense, however. When rebelling against a state, regardless of how bad or good the state is, is automatically an act of agression of war and thus the "bad guys" (from the view of the state.)

Wait a sec. There are people who don‘t get the sarcasm it the trailers and dialogs and actually think we are the good guys?

"Does your neighbor lift? He may be a cyborg. Please notify your nearest super earth officer" This is paraphrased example of one those loading screen tips in HD1. The most fit were occused of being sympathizers and were often sent to cyberstan mines. The only way they could survive the conditions was to modify themselves. Only the strongest bodies could survive the modification. Super earth had an entire underclass being sent to labor camps and was surprised when they started rebellions. Also it wasnt just one war... it was hundreds of wars constantly crushing the rebels. These wars were HD1 equivalent of seasons.

That being said, I still think the SEAF soldiers you find dead at all their former positions and bases were still likely caused by the bugs. Because mass slaughtering what is likely to be millions of your own troops without anyone knowing would be impracticable and difficult to pull off without anyone noticing. Also when you find them, the area is already covered with bugs, bugs occupy their former positions, and they often have limbs and heads torn off, meanwhile only a few types of bugs spew bile.

I always imagined the bugs invade worlds by shooting their eggs through space that pepper planets that now have egg layers deep in their planet that need to be rooted out lol.

As much as I like the lore of Helldivers and do love the game, but I do sometimes feel disconnected from the game because I just don't enjoy being the bad guy. Itd be fun to see sometime if you get to work against Super Earth in secret, or something added to the game where you get the choice to become a traitor while still maintaining the gameplay.

I love how the entire basis of this view is blindly trusting your enemy when they say they won't hurt you after they win.

I mean i get the 1984 refrence to a degree yet its incorrect. Since if you watch the intro of helldivers 2. It follows more of Robert A. Heinleins Starship troopers satire. If you do talk to the engineer she brings up. When i get the ability to have children i hope i have a enough citizenship for a goldfish or a hamster. Heinleins way is that if you dont fight for earth you don't gain citizenship. Which means you don't have alot of rights. Serve the troopers become a citizen you alloted rights. For as many years or decades you serve the more citzenship rights you have.

Have you noticed that our helmets actually have little pictures of skulls on them? Look at the good guys symbols are all quite nice! Stars, stripes, lions, sickles you gotta say, it's better than a skull. I mean, I really can't think of anything worse, as a symbol, than a skull!

I think it's brilliant how everybody in these HD2 video comment sections are in on the satire, commenting in-character as 'super citizens' refusing to question Super Earth's policies 😆 it all translates to "yeah, we know."

It would be cool to see some sort of rogue helldivers encounters, like in the division 2 with rogue agents. It could be a very rare (2 to 5%) chance everytime you land on a planet, but tough to deal with them. They could be able to shoot back at you and use your own technology (calling stratagems on you, using support weapons), and give great rewards if you manage to kill them, (maybe a bundle of samples, season pass points...etc). This game possibilities are endless in my opinion, which makes it great.
