Not weird at all! It would be weird if they didn't when now the EX30 and EX90 are here. It's to have a congruence of naming for their full EVs. XC40 Recharge was a dumb name.
I hope they have fixed the google integration as it's quite troublesome in the EX40's still. Apps need killing in the background when maps/gps gets stuck
Oh man, Thomas was in my city and didn't tell us fans :O I would gladly have met up for a short while and drink a coffee! Write to me next time for a sightseeing tour ;D
yeah indeed, I have seen in the watch time curve that the majority of viewers are not interested in detail in the infotainment anymore, maybe because its meanwhile pretty standard?
"from 49.000 Euro / 50 k USD Highest spec almost 70.000 Euro / 60 k USD" now this makes no sense... is the highest trim in the US lower? cos otherwise it dosnt makes sense..
@@autogefuehl i understand that, i meant that the start version is 49K euro or 50K USD but the high trim is 70K Euro or 60K USD the low trim is cheaper in Euro the higher trim is more expensive...
Yes the different pricing is sometimes ridiculous. Also especially with Japanese or Korean brands. U get the cars for literally half the price in the US, sometimes in lower trims though
Some vehicles look awesome totally blacked out, this one a little less so. I think it's the overall proportions, shapes, and the matte cladding. Passive adaptive on EV model makes a ton of sense since prior years got a little upset over broken pavement.
Thanks @autogefuehl . I have seen that vedio. I am looking for a compact electric SUV. I am confused between iX1 edrive30 vs Volvo EX40 twin recharge. The Volvo in ultimate black is costing a little more than the BMW but has better range. Which one should I choose? Can you help me decide.
I don't understand this car: the average Volvo buyer is not really the kind of person who thinks they're cool because their car is all black (aka a 13 year-old boy or a drug dealer). I can understand these stupid gimmicks from flashy brands like Mercedes-Benz... but Volvo??
The only thing I’d caution about optioning the black version is the combination of 20” black rims and low profile tires. I’m pretty careful, and have scratched my chrome rims on the XC40 3 times, even with the surround camera option. You can see the scratches if you look, but on black rims you would want to get them repaired every time. Otherwise, I’m happy with mine two years in.
It’s designed in Sweden and built in Belgium, unless you live in India, Australia, NZ, SE Asia or China. So no danger of EU or US sanctions. Volvo is registered on the Swedish stock exchange.
Oh this interior is so 2010s... Infotainment, some people think this is non relevant, but it is to most, is totally outdated early 2010s look. Why would I pay this?? Looks so demodé abd ugly
The rear seat is actually quite roomy, speaking as a 1.79m owner. No flat floor and adequate footwells make a big difference, and there is also plenty of room for child seats, forward and rear facing. Maybe try one yourself?
Quick, put a hyperscreen and even more screens and ambient lighting everywhere so it looks like a cheap nightclub and sell it as a ”premiumcar” for minimum 100 000€
Tbf, they seem to not have made any changes to the (visible part) of the infotainment cluster since the launch in 2017, and even then it was basically the same part as in XC90 launched in 2015. With other words, it's almost a 10 year old design, and it shows, which is a shame that they haven't upgraded, because I wouldn't say the exterior design has aged as poorly.
3 years and 60k miles on our p8 xc40 and I can tell you it does NOT need more power What it needs is More range / efficiency Slightly bigger battery 85maybe Get rid of grim piano black gloss interior Stupid plug cover changed to flap Better charging curve that doesn’t die after 55% Then it’s imo the perfect ev
picking up a 3 year old twin motor next week, so thanks for the review 👋... not too worried about range after considering a lot of options as a long (twice a year) trip for me is ~180 miles. Most of my journeys are local... like 40 miles would be a day if im doing a lot of errands. im sure piano black in the interior will annoy me and I did find it a little dated, but ergonomically much preferred it to something like the ioniq 5
@@SuperKimjong sounds a perfect fit for you then! Seating position and head room better than Ioniq 5 too My wife now has the Volvo and only ever charges from home so it’s perfect
Efficiency is Volvos/Polestars biggest issue. Actual consumption in normal driving is almost double vs. TM3SR. You will not hit WLTP in a TM3 but you will be nowhere near WLTP in the Volvo/Polestar. Very disappointing as I clearly prefer the Volvo looks.
@@AnotherBoring43yearold - yeah strangely reviews raved about the ioniq 5 comfort but I found the seats overly firm... screen uncomfortably far away... and turns out given a choice i prefer my gear select in the 'normal' position. the boot space and second row space was very impressive though... and clearly ahead for charging/range
@@SM-wr4nn what i was trying to tell that on such new car for such premium class it is not acceptable to have non led lights e.g. turn signals or something

PLEASE STOP CLIMAXING ON HORSE POWER AND PERFORMANCE! THATS NOT AUTOMOBILE MARKET! PEOPLE WANT AFFORDABLE ECONOMIC TRANSPORTATION. ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE NOTHING NEW, THEY ARE MAINSTREAM TRANSPORT OVER 10 YEARS. STOP APPLAUDING MANUFACTURERS PRODUCIN WASTEFUL UNNEEDED VEHICLES. YOU ORGASM ON VEGAN MATERIALS BUT YOU DONT CARE THAT THAT CAR USED MATERIALS FOR 2 AFFORDABLE CARS?!?!!? THAT IS NOT ECOLOGY CONCERN FOR YOU BUT VEGAN LEATHER IS IMPORTAN? answer this to yourself - Your mom needs 250 hp car? THEN WHY ARE YOU PRETENDING WE WANT THEM?!?!?!?
Making big changes to styling is stupid...it alienates people who paid hefty prices just a few years ago. That's why brands like Mercedes and BMW don't make radical changes in styling. Volvo has done great with their lights. They look great, probably better than 75% of what's out there.
I agree. The XC40 is not a bad car, but they should have saved the EX40 name for a ground up EV design. The transmission tunnel in the rear seat foot area is still a problem.
Not sure what the cost difference is, but for me these minor performance increases are not justifiable from a cost perspective, because they don't change the nature of the car very much. Just a way for the manufacturer to charge more. In the real world most people probably don't care if it takes 4.8 0r 4.6 sec to reach 60 in drag racing conditions. It feels almost the same as the slightly cheaper dual motor version and most people don't do those types of accelerations very often, anyway.
Same. We were looking at picking up a 2yr old XC40 earlier this year but after looking into all of the reliability issues this many owners seem to have experienced (check YT and Volvo forums, especially driving wheel vibration issue) we were massively put off. I personally love the XC40 so I really hope they've fixed the common issues in these newer cars and we see some better used stock soon.
Owning an XC40 Extended range 2024 RWD with 255 horsepower since September. For every day use and trips I would say that 255hp is really nice and sometimes too much power. I could not imagine how fast the 2 motor + performance package could be! But, personally, I find no need on an EV SUV to have 400 or 450 hp when 90% of my kilometers is spent on city roads and everyday needs. In terms of consumption, if your daily drive doesn't go more than 90km/h, you will probably get 16to 17kwh/100km. On trip conditions with maximum speed of 110-130km/h, 420 to 450 kilometers range is what you probably get. I live in Greece, where almost 7 months of year it is actually summer time, with temperature range between 20 and 35, while usually a soft winter here goes till 5 degrees. So my measurements are close enough to ideal most of the time (23 degrees). On a trip, you can get 205 KW DC charging speed, which is very good feature. On DC charger of 150 or 200 KW, you normally dont spend more than 20 minutes to get a good percentage of range. All in all, this is a premium package. The price is high, because you get a premium car, so you pay for your cabin, your safety, your comfort, etc. In general, the build quality is brilliant. It could be 5000euro less, but that doesn't change the world when you pay for a car of this category. Google assistant is really helpful, you just talk to google and everything is answered back without moving your hands from the steering wheel. For future improvements, if VOVLO manages to produce the next generation of EX40 with less than 2000kg weight, it will be astonishing.
Is the frequency selective damping only for the EX40 / black edition? Or do MY24 (XC40) cars also have it? Couldn't find anything online for both new and outgoing model.
Excellent review. Two years ago i went for the plug in version because the range of the Ev was too low. Something like 250-280km in winter and on Autobahn speeds (140-150). Happy to hear new model can do 500km at snail swedish road speeds.. wondering what will be a real life mileage in Germany at a “traffic speed” of 130-140. No interested in hypermiling behind a LkW for hours.. Will you test the EC40 performance as well (the “old” C40… new names..)?
Thank you for an interesting review. Volvo get so many design details right. The bit they have still got wrong is the centre screen iPad for everything. That said there is so much that ought to make you want to choose this car. The trouble is there is no pizzazz. I would rather have something highly flawed fun from Italy or possibly France if they start to make that sort of thing again.
I just bought one in May 2024. It's now the 5th time I needed to go to the garage for maintenance and reparation. Sure, I get a replacement car but this is really bad. I have an issue with my battery. Not enough performance for decent acceleration and car just didn't start. I'm really dissapointed.
Does anyone know why there's a crease on the airbag cover at 5:06? As far as I can tell, it is only on the XC40. None of the other modern Volvo has it, including the xc60, and v60 I've driven. It was always a bugbear of mine in what was an exemplary vehicle when I owned the car a few years back.
Even the lynk 01 has a better internal than this. I can not fathom who the hell approved of this internal design. Why oh why didn't they change to a bigger screen with more knobs and quick toggle between modes?? They will lose most of their buyers for this alone. The competitors are all better. I'm disappointed.
Volvo fell off with their center consoles in the rear. My V70 was better than that. Sure, it's a bigger car, but the XC40 is supposed to be new and comfortable
Does it have the battery problem that you cannot drive faster than 90 km/h when it's battery is 20% or lower and it sometimes shuts down due to bad BMS callibration?
@@autogefuehl inside news from someone on the Smart #n cars project who use the same Geely platform... They could not tell anything about Volvo, but I am wondering since it is the same EV platform, batteries and probably BMS... Could be wrong though...
Don’t like the interior, outdated and a small screen. I owned a XC90 hybrid between end 2015 till 2017 the interior hasn’t change since 2015…I’ll trade my Tesla with a Porsche Macan EV. That’s a much better car!
I wouldn't drive it even if you gave it to me, so ugly with black rims, especially on a black car. By the way, welcome to Sweden, you should come to Trollhättan where I live and see the SAAB museum and everything around it. Let my know if you ever decide to come here and I will be your guide.
