I've had a veru simialr situation with my tempest. In m setup (pump-fed) water comes in to the filter shed from the pond and is then split, with about 60% going to tthrough a UV, to a multibay and then to a moving bed, and the rest going to the Tempest. Like you, I had a problem with detritus not being flushed away during cleaning (even with an air pump boiling it) - this was often plant matter as I have quite a plant-heavy pond, and/or algae. This would then build up, stop even the smaller detritus, fish waste etc, from fbeing flushed away, and the tempest would inevitably block. I'd then have to take it apary and power wash it, sometimes as much as 4-6 times a year. I part solved it by getting a pressure filter as a pre-filter, which has meant I only need to take it apart once last year, which is a win of sorts. I also did a similar thing with flow to help clean it, but as mine goes straight back to the pond, I could run it for as long. Instead I just closed the Multibay valve, and pumped all of the water into the Tempest, just to disloge the 'caught' muck, and then turned it off and boiled it again, and often times found it would flush. Although this only seems to work at the early stages. Anyway, a very interesting video, wish I had a tradesman 'on tap' too!
Cheers mate, I normally do all my pipe work myself but matty needed my trade last week so might aswell cash in on it😂. A bit annoying really as they do a really good job, but the cleaning side of it is poor, and for the money they are demanding new I don’t think it’s great value. Nice one and a great workaround. I’m on my second valve on the tempest now, when ordered it I sent a note with the order to EA asking them to explain the rationale behind fitting this sub standard valve to the tempest, they didn’t reply. My own personal workaround for this is to open the valve, drain half the tempest, close the valve then remove the top cap and shove an airline in there and blast it for 5 mins with my 120 air pump, open the valve and drain it. @HumberKoi I've just noticed yours is the mk1 valve mine is a mk2 do you think a air line could still be connected I only want to bubble my media more as it's rubbish as it is
They do a great job at filtering ( a really good job ) but the valve underneath and the cleaning process isn’t the best until you make it work yourself If you see one found cheep then certainly worth it.

Can’t believe that if you fitted it as it is supposed to be fitted , after the main filter , that you are getting so much solids in the tempest . Sure if you fitted it correctly all your valve and outlet problems would go away .
@@Supacooper4135 there is plans to move it after we get a sive to the skimmer line there’s been a updated video on the leaking valve and many have people have changed it to the way we done it now.
