Even after Walt and Roy Disney's death in 1964 and 1971 respectively, animation has become better and better. They have tried new ideas, new techniques, new storytelling and more. And we all have our favourite animated films! From the most legendary of animated films to the lesser known.
I love how talented artists from decades and decades and decades ago have created entertainment that was soon to be watched and enjoyed by the masses of today's generation.

we take animations we have today for granted, but just imagine showing a cartoon from today to grandpa when he was young... we have evolved so much so fast
Fun fact: Back with the first video recording, which was of a train station, people screamed because they thought a train was going to hit them. So hypotheticly, if we showed them a Michael Bay transformers movie, or End Game they would LOSE IT.
I’m so glad that you included some of Hayaou Miyazaki’s Movies. His movies are my childhood and he is one of my inspirations and also one of the reasons that I’m an animator!
Shelby Mavity I understand. I am home schooled too. She is just trying to protect you. Some parents think that shutting you in protects you from the world. It isn't because she wants you to feel lonely, she wants you to feel safe.
Skimmed over everything 60s until the 90s then you showed almost every year since then. Maybe because that's what we would remember but I still grew up watching Flintstones, Tom & Jerry, etc. Soviet cartoons too.
Seeing the progression was a sight to behold. Awesome job! On a side note, toy story 3 was 2010?! It feels like that was at most three years ago. Time sure flies.
lmao I was talking to a friend about Toy Story 3 several weeks ago and when I mentioned the year it came out he was totally shocked, couldn't believe it was that long ago.
Modern anime pretty much originated with Tezuka's studio TV animation in the 60's. There was Japanese animation before that, but they're basically from different schools...
Really nicely done! I do feel as though this could have been slightly better by either being just 'The Evolution of 2D Animation", "A History of Disney Animation" or having more clips from other types of animation earlier on in history. For instance, I feel as though Wallace & Gromit could have come in a little earlier, as I think Aardman are very much pioneers of modern stop-motion, taken to new heights by Laika. I think there was a little too much Disney and not enough of much else, it definitely could have done with Tom & Jerry, anything by Chuck Jones or Tex Avery, perhaps some 60s Hanna-Barbera or even 90s/00s Hanna-Barbera. Granted, Disney are quite literally the pioneers of traditional animation, but it'd have been good to see more breadth of who was inspired by Disney. A peppering of more European and Japanese animation would also benefit this. I hope this is coming across as constructive criticism :-) It is good, it's just it could be even better.
Actually, Fleischer animations were the pioneers, but Disney was much better at marketing and claimed they made the first sound animation, however it was Fleischer who did it first, 2 years earlier. Just a little history lesson.
I actually like this setup because it shows the overall evolution. Like its cool to see that ToyStory started 3d in 1995... Then see that there was a boom of 3d in 2001 onwards with 2d being slightly less relevant.
It's amazing how Disney helped evolved society into the new age. Also should have mentioned Bugs Bunny and Warner bros. That said, the japanese dominated the 1980s in animation but the 1990s were the golden age of disney.
@Gemtem 1976* the first ever usage of 3d animation was in a 1976 sci-fi movie where a computer displayed a 3d model of a hand making a fist and rotating
The scene from The Princess and the Frog with doctor Fasciliere shows how great 2D animation could be. Too bad it was the last 2D animated movie Disney will probably ever make.
It depends on fps (frames per second). A moving image (video) is made up of lots of pictures scrolled through at a fast rate, however between each image is a change, the reason some look better is that the distance the image changes, e,g. If s tree sways 0.3mm on across three images and if a tree sways 0.1mm across three frames, the second would be higher quality as the smaller the change would make it have more finer looks, but how do they make it not look slow? Well they increase the speed the device delays each image, so they decrease the delay between each image from 0.007 to 0.005 to example to make it look the same speed as a less finer image which puts larger distance across images which looks like jagged movement, meaning it creates a visual difference between quality, it’s really easy to do.
maybe you should put Zootopia in a future, the animators invented a new way to make the fur of the animals more realistic and is the first movie of Disney that have every single character moving in the background instead of freezing
(* : Correction) This is the complete list of the animations mentioned in this video: (I know someone else made a list of these animations, but since they didn't know some of them, I thought I would make a completed list) 1833: Phenakistoscope 1868: Zoetrope 1906: Humorous Phases of Funny Faces 1908: Fantasmagorie 1911: Little Nemo 1914: Gertie the Dinosaur 1918: The Sinking of the Lusitania 1919: Feline Follies 1923: Alice Wonderland 1925: Alice Solves the Puzzle 1928: Steamboat Willie 1929: The Skeleton Dance 1930: Dizzy Dishes *1932: The Idea 1932: Flowers and Trees 1933: Three Little Pigs 1934: The Grasshopper And The Ants 1937: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 1940: Fantasia and Pinocchio 1941: Dumbo *1942: Bambi 1950: Cinderella 1951: Alice in Wonderland 1953: Peter Pan 1955: Lady and the Tramp 1959: Sleeping Beauty 1961: 101 Dalmatians 1967: The Jungle Book 1968: Yellow Submarine 1970: The Aristocats 1973: Robin Hood and Fantastic Planet 1980: The King and the Mockingbird 1981: The Fox and the Hound 1983: Fire and Ice 1984: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind 1986: Castle in the Sky 1990: The Rescuers Down Under 1991: Beauty and the Beast 1992: Aladdin 1993: The Nightmare Before Christmas 1994: The Lion King 1994: Pom Poko 1995: Toy Story 1995: Pocahantas 1996: The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1996: Space Jam 1997: Hercules 1997: Mononoke 1998: Antz 1998: The Prince of Egypt 1998: Mulan 1999: The Iron Giant 1999: Tarzan 2000: Chicken Run 2000: The Emporor's New Groove 2001: Spirited Away 2001: Monsters, Inc. 2001: Shrek 2002: Ice Age 2002: Lilo & Stitch 2003: Finding Nemo 2003: Brother Bear 2004: Shrek 2 2004: The Incredibles 2004: Howl's Moving Castle 2005: Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit 2005: Corpse Bride 2006: Cars 2006: Happy Feet 2007: Ratatouille 2008: Kung Fu Panda 2008: WALL-E 2009: Up 2009: The Princess and the Frog 2009: Coraline 2009: Fantastic Mr. Fox 2010: How to Train Your Dragon 2010: Toy Story 3 2010: Tangled 2011: Rango 2012: ParaNorman 2012: Wreck-It Ralph 2013: The Wind Rises 2013: Frozen 2014: The Lego Movie 2014: Big Hero 6 2015: Inside Out 2015: AnomaLisa *2016: Kubo and the Two Strings 2017: The Lego Batman Movie
VincentSantellanoYT Boi Actually, animation goes back to the Paleolithic, just search for "Paleolithic animation". But "modern" animation only begins until the 19th century. Also you have forgotten Émile Reynaud, you cannot forget him.
1:09 the iconic one that we’ve all seen when we were younger at the start of Disney films. Me and my sister used it shout MICKEY MOUSE every time we saw this.

I read the title as "The Evolution of Anime 1833 - 2017" so when I saw the thumbnail, I honestly thought this was some sort of joke until I reread the title 😂 But, anyways, neat video, mate! :)
