I personally love frostfangs design. The colours and the extra fur and frost make him looks so good. I also love how his ice attacks look and the name reference to stories
The fur on Sand Barioth does actually make sense. A proper coat of fur can not only help retain body heat in cold environments, but it can also act as insulation to keep the heat out. Considering how big the Barioth is, and it presumably cools off by panting, it's safe to assune its fur is actually an excellent heat insulator as deserts will have both extreme heat during the day, but also very cold during the night.
Barioth is my least favorite non-elder monster of all time, but Frostfang Barioth is one of my favorite non-elders. It’s amazing what the removal of wind can do.
I was fighting some barioths in GU earlier today, and I can confirm that it actually does have the wall jump attack in that game. It seems to be fairly uncommon however, and from what I've seen it'll only use the attack on the arctic ridge, not the frozen seaway for some reason. Also, it can still do the area transition ambush in GU. Edit: I fought barioth again in the frozen seaway and saw it do the wall jump in area 6. It kinda seemed like a buggy interaction though because I wasn't close to it when it went on the wall, and in lunged in completely the wrong direction. I didn't have palicoes or anything so there wasn't another target.
Barioth can wall jump attack in Frozen Seaway only in Area 1 fight him in nearby wall Edit: I think he can only do it in other area I'll go take a look
Apparently he does a "rare" move to me every time I fight him lol Every single time he's in area 1 Frozen Seaway he jumps on the wall for me, I didn't expect it the first time audibly screaming "WTF!" Lol
Hey Heavy Wings! I actually really do like hearing you review the visual looks of each armor set for the monster's, and kind of more succinctly going through their gameplay mechanics instead of all the way to balance it out! Wouldn't mind that being the way the armor reviews go from now on! :)
I think discussing Armor desgins is more appealing than going through the skills in detail. It's really good way of pointing things a playwr wouldn't really notice upon first glance and i just really like seeing the different gunner/blademaster desgins. Also wouldn't mind this being a separate series 👍
The "new" tail swipe added in Sunbreak is from Frontier where Barioth can use it too.^^ Edit: he can do the wall jump attack in Rise/Sunbreak too, he just does it extremly rarely in Risebreak.
The G rank Barioth armor is my favorite. I remember being pissed when i found out in iceborn they used the high rank design instead. At least we had frostfang later to make up for it
I'd like to point out a small thing you missed: In Iceborne (and only Iceborne), if Barioth's charges or certain moving attacks collide with a wall, it'll run straight up the wall and land a small distance from it (likely behind you if you're near the wall). Other than that, great video! I always loved Barioth's design (especially Frostfang's) and I enjoyed the 4th gen and Sunbreak fight (in LR and HR it felt too slow to the point I wish the HR fight was the LR one), but in Iceborne I absolutely loved Barioth and Frostfang!
Rise Barioth is capable of jumping from the wall and attack you, it happened to le recently, I was surprised that he was capable of doing that, it seems like he uses it on small areas, he used this move in the citadel zone that is below area 7
Yep, was thinking the same thing. Sunbreak barioth is way more fun than base rise, and that small circular Zone in the citadel often features wall jumps.
Yea he definitely does when you fight him in the the citadel. Cant recall if i have seen it in the Frost Islands or not though. But SB version is great, he got quite a few new attacks. Funny his weakest attack is what faints me more than any of his others. When you are low on health or drinking a poition he will do that really quick lunge/jump and hit you with his teeth. That attack has just barely clipped me and got me so many times.
Ooooohh finally a Barioth video, he is my favorite monster of the series and a really underrated one, not many people like his design or attacks, which is really understandable. He is much more fun to fight in Iceborne and Frrostfang is my favorite, both design and fighting it :D. Though i wish him and nargacuga are smaller you know, and keep tigrex to be the bigger of the quadrupedal trio
For me, it's Frostfang. I love it's design and the way it fights. And I wasn't even aware of it's subspecies the Sand Barioth until I watched this video. Keep up the good work.👍
Barioth is Sunbreak can hop on the walls. At the time of me typing this comment, he did it an hour ago when I was fighting him, and I said out loud "wait what the hell?!"
Barioth is the definition of learnable (other than diablos). Barioth has a lot of moves that are quite difficult to dodge ,and it’s even harder to dodge when he chains these attacks. But when you hunt him a couple more times , you’ll find out that there are a lot of openings in his attacks. If you fight him even more ,you’ll even be able to predict what moves he’s going to do and act accordingly. His hunt goes from what seems unfair compared to other monsters on the same power level ,to a relatively easy fight.
@@bri1085 Even more so with barioth. Obviously this applies to all monsters ,but barioth is the most extreme version of that (excluding things like diablos and nergigante). He starts off as one of if not the hardest monsters you have fought yet,but after more hunts becomes one of the easiest monsters. Compared to something like buldrome, who starts off as easy and just gets easier.
definitely love the armor section, the way you handled it this video seems more enjoyable. i know you mentioned it once but i would definitely spend just a tad bit more time explaining the skills on the set. not entirely like the hermitaur video going skill by skill but more so just stating what skills/type of skills the set gives in each game.
One of the reasons I dislike Sunbreak was the lack of Sand Barioth, before sunbreak was announced I was looking forward to how 5th gen would try to revamp his fight since Iceborne did a really good job with subspecies. I'm hoping that they at least add Frostfang since the assets already exist and groudfrost may interact with wirebug jumping nicely.
Oooooh, I thought he slips cause the Damage on his Wings made him weaker, and cause of Pain, but no your right, its the Spikes, they cant help him anymore, genius! My Favorite Batioths are Sand and Frostfang. Both are very cool, and interestingly very different. Sand whit his Focus on Tornados and Combos, and Frostfang whit his slower hig Damage Attacks and Mobility decrease.
If they do iceborne barioth with the sunbreak tail slam and the lighting from the prebuild of world barioth may take the top as my favorite monster again.
Barioth was my first major roadblock in Iceborne and I kind of like that. He's fast, aggressive, and evasive- three things that, at the time, didn't pair very will with the way I used Charge Blade, so it forced me to shift up my playstyle some. Though, while I say I liked that Barioth was a roadblock, I've never enjoyed the hunt. Frostfang, however, is a much more enjoyable hunt- lemme tell you, the removal of the fucking tornado makes a world of difference. And his armour is cooler to boot.
Frostfang is my favrouite of them. It was a later-added monster that wasn't designed purely for endgame-only players like the big dragons. Frostfang was the perfect sort of difficulty and challenge for someone like me. Plus it not flying around as much as regular was a big bonus. Definitely liked the new way of showing the armour. And I agree 100% about the fur on Sand's set.
I like the videos your making. Found them today. Hope you channel blows up and grows. Keep making them videos man. Looking forward to catching up on what you've made and what's to come.
Frostfang armour is my favourite set because it colours really well for a disco look, if you mix it with some other layered. Aside from that, I like the female G rank sets for the elf knight explorer look.
With sand barioth's armor it would actually make sense to have fur. What doesn't make sense is these monsters sizes being in the desert. There's not many large species living in most desert regions. The camel for example we know didn't even originate from desert regions. The same goes for barioth in fact. The fur would support warmth for cold nights in the caves and hunting nocturnally if needed during a particularly hot season.
I think a funny coincidence that could be pointed out is that in monster hunter stories which came out before iceborn one of the characters had a barrioth named frost fang so the ice born variant being called frost fang is neat
hey, the part on armor focusing on design over skills is really cool, but you should note if a set has a skill unique to it (eg malzeno having blood rite or safi having seal)
I do think this style for the armor evolution is a step up. It's got more personality and is less "info zombie" seeing all the sets is also more entertaining than just reading a list of skills
Slight correction for Iceborne, the frost doesn't just "leave you open to attacks", if caught in it, frostfang will perform a slam on the caught hunters.
People talk about whether certain sub/rare species/variants are going to be added but here's the way I see it; if a monster has moves that were present in older games that aren't present now, that there's a chance that there's a variation coming... take Molten Tigrex (and also Brute technically); the move where he stomps for a bit before roaring and the massive telegraphed roar are not present in Sunbreak Tigrex, despite the fact that sub/rare species/variant moves have been added to the base monster before and Sunbreak Tigrex could have pulled off these moves easily or more relevant to this video, Frostfang Barioth has the double slam attack; adding this move to Sunbreak Barioth would have been childs play, but they didn't... heck even added the upwards facing ice breath that Frostfang has (or the large ice blast attack) would have been simple, but the fact that they didn't means to me that they might be planning a comeback for Frostfang Barioth the same goes for Molten Tigrex as well
barioth does walljump on gen ultimate, but he does it on area 1 of the frozen seaway map (on the area 3 access climb) hunting hyper barioth in gen ultimate is a complete chore, but his weapons look so good i can't help it
I have seen Iceborne Barioth fly to leave or enter an area a few times, but it seems like it happens only in a very specific area. That area being Area 6 of the Hoarfrost Reach map. I have seen it fly into the area 6 a few seldom times when it was hungry and after an Anteka. I have most often seen it fly when it leaves area 6 to go to 7 especially after it had a turf war with Fulgur Anjanath or Ebony Odogaron
@@HeavyWings that was amazing idea cause it shows that humans would have settled down in the cave or have it as hunting ground to train the senses sucks it was scrapped
You didn't mention how his eyes randomly change color from game to game. Sometimes they're blue, sometimes they're orange. I don't know which I like more.
I love the barioth armor, to the point of having a WIP cosplay build next to me as I write this. So hearing someone else talk about its design with some detail was really nice, most people ignore that kind of stuff and focus on the skills... Barioth was my second wall after Barroth in tri and has had a special place in my heart since. I'd totally forgotten about the cave thing, that might be a reason why he seems harder in my memory than when I fight him in newer games. Now I wanna replay tri tbh ^^
One big thing missed with GU is they reworked his shoulder check so it angled it more forward as it rears back, making it a little trickier to dodge. It's my favorite version for that reason.
you can equip your armor with a skill that negates movement penalties in world. it negates debuffs to movement speed in water, snow and mud as well as snare moves like juratodus, barroths mud sling or barioths ice.
I don't know why since GU, Capcom has made Barioth an excruciatingly painful fight. That's why my favorites barioth are : Sand barioth and Frostfang, at least they don't the spam the super-wide jump attack
I feel like if they bring back deviants, frostfang should count as a deviant. It kinda fits the bill, and it’s kinda like silverwind, as both are described as older, more experienced individuals of their kind.
Love the video overall and good job on the way you did the armour evolution this time around, only thing I can really say is maybe focus a bit less on describing the armour's visuals but the parts where you describe what the armour represents in terms of function and armour skills is great, keep it up!
Armor visuals is one of the most important aspects of the game, so I like the focus on that. However, personally i enjoy seeing what skills the sets had and how it has changed. It doesn't need to be super detailed, but a quick "it had these skills, and this skill unique to X monster did such and such."
I really like this new style of Armour Evolution, definetely a change for the better. Also I could've sworn Barioth does the cyclone surfing in Sunbreak
Would love you to do an analisis on the resistances of the monsters and if any of them change between games, also comparing the look of armors between games could be nice! Love your videos!
I would really appreciate it if you all donated to me on Patreon. You get early access and credited at the end of videos! www.patreon.com/HeavyWings Correction: Barioth can jump off walls in Rise/Sunbreak and Generations Ultimate.
I'd love to hear a short description of the armor and its practicality (but I'm insane!) like the part about the fur on the armor this time around. But also going on about how the female armors like to well not be armor by having openings on your guys or inner thighs etc!
considering that TU3 seems to be all about Variants; I'd like to see Frostfang return! and this time he won't have to compete with a f**king Black Dragon!
Not just that, you could also very easy wall slam him all the time and his frozen ground attack can be negated by useing the iceproof mantle or tourch pots. They did Frostfang dirty in Iceborne.
@@lubbo5261 "his frozen ground attack can be negated by useing the iceproof mantle or tourch pots" to be honest; that sounds like the intended way to counter Frostfang's frozen ground attacks but yeah I agree that they did him dirty, had they added him before Alatreon arrived, he would have been far more formidable! They also shouldn't have made him Tempered from the get-go... tbh it almost seems like they were supposed to add him in the previous TU along with Furious Rajang and Raging Brachydios but cut him out at the last second and the wall slam argument is kinda irrelevant as that was a major problem for all monsters not named Alatreon or Fatalis lol
Barioth has always been pretty cool to me, but also either incredibly easy or incredibly hard. First met in Iceborne, walled me out of prancing about with insect glaive, picked up a new weapon, learned the game. Frostfang, thought it was kind of easy, my thoughts at the time, and still are, it came when it did as a care package of weapons to beat Alatreon with. 3u, reasonably fun fight, one that I found myself doing really often, and though I didn't know why breaking the arms was good at the time, still did it, and found profitable results. Sand Barioth was painful though, it's all the mobility of Barioth with the battlefield control of Kushala, in a more annoying map with worse invaders than normal Barioth. Still, Evade Extender, Heat Res, Attack Up, I think it was? Some points in all them? I mean, two of those are the best skills in classic MH. Did certainly just blend in with the rest in GU, but Hyper Barioth, I think I tried once, didn't go back. I kind of barely keep up with normal Barioth, especially G rank, then with Hyper....ugh. I love his new tail slam in Sunbreak, and I also generally love his springing back to head on after attacks in whatever game. Afflicted Barioth, also, just the right challenge.
"Frostfang, thought it was kind of easy, my thoughts at the time, and still are, it came when it did as a care package of weapons to beat Alatreon with" it's funny that you say that now... but I was one of many people who had to fight Alatreon on Day 1... without Frostfang weapons seriously? Why didn't they add him with Furious Rajang and Raging Brachydios? 3 Variants in one update would have been perfect
@@deinonychus1948 I fought Alatreon without Frostfang weapons, didn't beat it though. I went for a few tries, I forget what I brought, and just gave up and stopped playing until after Frostfang dropped and let me beat it.
"You can't talk about lagiacrus without mentioning underwater combat" once said a certain pair of large membranes capable of flying. Im looking forward for this controversial topic, expecting an objective view on the argument with some predictions-suggestion for an eventual reintroduction in mh6
I love Barioth but I hate to fight it in IB because whenever it pounces it traps my character as it slides, it doesn't even do damage but blocks any movement and you are often completely open to its next attack because you're stuck in it.
I’ve got a clip of Sunbreak Barioth getting ready to jump off a wall and then glitching out and teleporting back to the ground. I’m not sure if that means it does have the attack and it just glitched or if it’s something unintended. Edit: It does have the wall jump. I have a new clip of it working as intended.
