its funny when i see these extinct elephant relatives i think god they look so weird. but if modern day elephants weren't so familiar to us we'd probably think they look weird too.
The Roman soldiers were supposedly terrified when Carthage first deployed elephants against them in the First Punic War. They had never seen such creatures before.
Crazy to think how close we are to the extinction of the final Proboscideans. Not that far separated from the extinction of their Cousins 13k years ago. It's always been the way of the world, but it gives me bad feelings.
Very interesting, you could be totally making this all up. But I believe you,it seemed genuine. Thank you for all the research it was very educational. I am subscribed
great video, I am a fellow nature and elephant lover. I was wondering though what program do you use for your video that allows for such smooth movement?
Thanks for your time and effort. I watched it because I am from South Africa and i love our bush elephants. I often watch a wonderful elephant channel that follows a herd of orphaned rescued elephants who have formed their own special family herd. It is very relaxing. The channel is HERD Elephant Orphanage South Africa. It is interesting because I have learnt a lot about elephant behaviour and communication etc. I then wondered about their evolution, thus I ended up watching your video.
You did an amazing job with this video ! I think you do an amazing with all your videos! I love to watch them with my children to help them learn about the world of the past and the present. Thank you for all your hard work! It really shows in the quality of the videos and the thorough but understandable information provided in them.
Really interesting content, I love to see coverage of a whole family with all the extinct cousins, instead of the usual straight-line species overview. Even better would be to show the species map with the then-current continental locations given plate tectonics.
Very interesting! I'm looking here to see what a Dwarf Elephant looks like because I heard that they was a Food-Source of the extant Komodo-Dragons - before they died out... Nowadays, the Dragons prey on Wild Pigs and Deer...
Yes that is true but you forgotten barytherium, dunyttherium and danytherium, that so like bulytherium and borytherium, barytheriideae, but your channel is one of more great video channel hy from lvan from Croatia ❤❤❤❤
Really thorough video about the subject and very entertaining. My favorite Proboscidean has to be either Deinotherium or Zygolophodon Borsoni, I can't decide. I also love the looks of Gomphotherium. It's so saddening to think how many of them lived and went extinct, and how close we are to lose them all forever.
I like learning about prehistoric animals and their modern equivalents. I subscribed to your channel after this information about elephants and their kin. 🖒👏
In fact, mammoths are elephants, while mastodons are not elephants, mammoths are officially counted as elephants because they are part of the family Elephantidae, while mastodons belong to a whole different family called Mammutidae.
7:44 dwarf elephant skull found on greek isles as source of greek cyclops myth. Ive heard it was elephant skulls but dwarf elephant fits even better, including size and geographic location
Great video by the way it is possible to recreate moeritherium by altering and mixing DNA of elephants and sea cows(close relatives)to make it look like your version,is there a chance that this will work or am i wrong?in conclusion,it is only extracting the DNA of animals to genetically alter it so that it looks like its extinct version because today technology continues to advance but anyway this is an example, what i said is not real and by the way i like cloning
the best video on elephants out there. the timeline and dialogue go very well together while bringing up specifics through photos, etc. you are great at this and i hope to see more from you on any animals but especially marine mammals how the changed from land and back... thank you. and your voice is very soothing and easy to understand even at the quick pace. 🐘🐘🐘
I think mammoth speciation is more complex and varied than shown here. Also, it seems odd to have left out size comparisons for mammoths and mastodons. But up to that point, very interesting.
Reptile-like ancestor is not the same as true reptiles. I'm referring to the early synapsyds sometimes referred to as mammal-like reptiles (which weren't actual reptiles)
I watch a lot of these type of videos because I’m very interested in the way animals have evolved. I really enjoyed the time line which helps explain the evolution. Thank you for this video
