Just had to make a few more tweaks, now this video is good to go. Anyways, here's the history of appearances made in animation by Disney's Brazilian green parrot! I own nothing.

Funny how they've been consistently mispronouncing José's name since his original VA died. I guess most Americans don't realize that Spanish and Portuguese are different languages.
@@spipapi like he said , most americans do not realize that Brazil speaks portuguese , not spanish. they probably think that anything south of USA is just spanish.
Walt Disney: "I created José when i went to Brazil. He is a brazilian character and i made it clear that he speaks portuguese, not spanish." Everyone after his death: "MeXiCaN BiRd"
@@m2cscream I ain't Brazilian but I perfectly understand what you are saying, it's a loss of identity, the accent the language, even the character itself is screaming I am brazilian, and yet they gave him a Mexican accent, and Spanish language, I hate when they think that all latinoamerica is just México, and this hate increase when a character like this loss the things that make him a representation of his country, its like a Chilean whitout saying weon.
I think its adorable that Donald starts off as unsure about him and unable to understand him but over time he learns more and more about him and the language and they become close friends
@@l.h.9747 the voice actor died, and as Disney probably did not have any Brazilian to voice, he ended up hiring someone who knew Spanish to replace him (it is worth remembering that a lot of the world thinks that Spanish is spoken in Brazil)

consigo até entender o Mickey e os outros personagens falando "Hosê" por eles falarem em inglês e a sílaba "jo" não ser muito comum nessa linguagem, mas o próprio José Carioca falando "Hosê" é uma puta palhaçada
¿What about "you speak taco"? "But one is a joke and the other is a serious problem." When a shooting occurred in a state like Texas or Arizona, several of you say: "It is because of the bad influence that the abundance of Latin people brings".
I think the only time José's name is said during the 2017 Ducktales is by Panchito, so he would obviously pronounce the "J" as an "H". But when José sees the nephews, he say "Os patinhos!" which is Portuguese. So at least 2017 Ducktales remembered he's Brazilian
@@predator5775 Actually no, if they really respected the source materials properly they wouldn't drastically change some characters or present them as other nationalities. For example, Magica is from the Naples area near Vesuvius, so southern Italy, and should be Italian, not English. Like José is Brazilian, not Mexican. Unfortunately Angones, who was the editor of Ducktales 2017, said he couldn't take the Italian accent seriously. So much for originality and respect for other nationalities.
Pro tip: instead of pronouncing the J like H in 'home' try pronouncing it like the J in 'Joe' it is much closer to portuguese. (not perfect, but much better than "Ho se")
Rumble Roller I hope he returns and he might be when the new flower comes back. ( you know at the end when there's the eyeball that falls and replant a the flower at the end of the episode)
Bernardo’s accent (from the Ducktales clip) is the perfect representation of most English speaking Brazilians accents A nice change of pace considering most VAs after the original were just making a Mexican/Latino accent for some reason and calling him Rosé
@@jospantostado5406 Because it can refer to both. Even so America is technically not a continent, There is North America and South America, and there's no real reason for refer to both of them as "America" at once anyway, considering how radically different both regions are in location and the confusion it would cause. You would say "The Americas" if you wanted to refer to both, leaving "America" primarily as a shorthand for the USA.

Don't get me wrong, these are *all* great to straight LEGENDARY VAs. But the OG (Jose Oliviera, who was in both Saludos Amigos and 3 Caballeros to my recollection) is actually Brazillian, and effortlessly incorporates nuance into the character while speaking very casually. There's a softness and warmth to the original José's voice that carries its own brand of infectious charm and charisma, *without* playing into the "exotic" Latin lover stereotype that a lot of future adaptations would pull. Another big problem with other VAs is that I think they focus too much on *making* a voice that emphasizes a Latino accent, more Mexican than Brazillian, just so you *know* that the character is definitely not white. But when that isn't your real voice like with white actor Rob Paulsen (House of Mouse), it becomes all the harder to flesh out a character with it because your focus is on the voice itself. For many future adaptations, I feel José's personality IS the accent. And it's quite a shame, because as racist as Walt could be (even the 3 Caballeros have very stereotypical outfits), the original José and Panchito felt the closest to real bilingual people that I've ever seen in cartoons, because their VAs were ACTUALLY billingual and could carry their natural selves into the voices. Plus Walt wasn't afraid to just let the characters speak full-stop Portuguese and Spanish like real billingual people, unapologetic and not caring to be fully understood by white audiences, which even Coco's writers didn't do from my memory (LOVE Coco tho!!!) *Edit:* Thanks for the likes! A few clarifiers: - Zé was actually designed by a Brazillian! Cartoonist José Carlos de Brito made the outfit, which I think doesn't make it "stereotypical". - Someone in the replies points out that even though Zé is clearly from Rio de Janerio, the original VA was not, and it shows in slight subtleties in the accent. Which makes sense, just look how much difference there is between Southern and Northern US accents. - For those with no reading comprehension, I did NOT generalize all future José VAs as white because that's simply not true. I simply stated one example, Paulsen, to illustrate the greater point that actors without a Brazillian/Rio accent are bound to lose authenticity in the performance of a character from Rio.
Idk why you refer to whites and latin Americans as if they are two completely different entities as if half the population of south America wasn't white If you wish to refer to people from the USA specifically just use American or something
Ironically, Oliveira wasn't a carioca; he was actually from São Paulo, and he lacks the accent people from Rio de Janeiro tend to have (such as pronouncing the "S" as "sh", like Portuguese people do). I still love his voice as José; he sounds youthful and warm, and the way he gets excited when he first meets Donald is adorable.
Unfortunately his older voice, Brazilian musician and comedian Jose Olivera, is no longer with us. Have you ever seen Jose Olivera perform? I have a couple of times on The Mickey Mouse Club and believe me, he is just as lively and animated as his animated parrot counterpart!
