As Kansas City grew in the late 19th century, there was a need for public transportation. The streetcar was the city's answer, and although they disappeared with the growth of the suburbs, they are making a comeback today.

Growing up in KC I can still remember the rails that hadn't been paved over at Armor and Burlington in North KC.

Awesome production! Mad respect for your efforts and info. Some of the best photos of historic KC I have ever seen. I’ve been researching the rail line/ streetcar subject most of my life. In the early 90s I remember a plan for a new rail line, Chastain was the politicians name tying to put the funds together. I remember respected elders/teachers saying “it was never gonna happen, big oil stopped it in the 40s.” And the voters said no. Over the years of researching, I have found some conflicting information on the cost of building, operating, and riding. And the converting from steam to electric and many other logistics. I do hope we can restore public transportation in KC. I have done A lot of research and a lot of math, and it should be profitable connecting Olathe, KC, Excelsior Springs, Lawrence, MCI airport. Financially and socially profitable!

Great information. This city was build on the streetcar, and hopefully we can rebuild with the streetcar. Just need to get those East West connections going.
