The idea itself is a good one but one has to take some parts with a grain of salt as they represent author's personal view on the evolution being far from reality. The Scythian music- noone has any idea what it was like, no written resources left, so we can only make guesses, the same story about early Medieval Turkic, no sources. The one presented here is just a modern variation about the Medieval Turkic hero. Korkyt is much closer to reality even though noone can documentally prove that he really existed but his name is well preserved in legends of many Turkic people, he is believed to be the creator of Kobyz, supposedly the most ancient string instrument in the world although Kobyz probably appeared much earlier than 10 c. But Kazakhs are among the few Turkic people (due to the fact that they stayed nomads the longest, up to the beginning of the 20c.) who were able to preserve the most ancient Turkic musical instruments without much change, with Kobyz being one of them. With the Mongol music here, not sure if it should be included into the list, again it is not clear how much Mongol music influenced the Kazakh music. 1) Mongol army intitially consisted of Mongol and Turkic tribes 2) The number of pure Mongols who stayed in Kazakhstan was not that big and very soon they were assimilated both genetically and culturally by Turkic tribes 3) Turks and Mongols always lived next to each other (pre Genghiz Khan era), quite often intermixed, were parts of bigger confederations, culturally assimilated each other, even though languages are different, culturally they were quite close, in terms of music, there are similar instruments, traditions of throat singing etc., so hard to say who had a bigger influence or when exactly that influence took place. Everything from Kazakh Khanate and up to contemporary is much more accurate representation of music evolution. Even though contemporary part just shows only one side of much diverse modern Kazakh music, even folk has changed a lot due to fusion of orchestral music with traditional Kazakh instruments. Hope the author wouldn't feel offended, he's doing a good job introducing our culture to foreigners. Just some personal remarks))

The amount of mongol tribes who stayed in Kazakhstan was not little, genetical researches and kazakh legends about ancestors prove that. The fact that they assimilated fast is maybe because they (Naiman, Kerei, Qonyrat, Jalair and other big tribes) were originally turkic but mongolized by mongol tribes in 10-13 centuries

It's a pity that this video didn't incude (Where is the place like fatherland Altai) which is related to the East Turkistani Kazakh's revolts in China. There is one classic boy-group called Мұзарт(MuzArt) which is the symble of the revival of Kazakh folk songs, they have very beautiful song called (I missed my Almaty) which influenced several generations from 90s till nowadays. My childhood also full of Roza Rymbayva's song, espacially the song called (wonderful full moon).

For some reason, the Kazakh language during the Independent Kazakhstan period sounds more Russian. Is it the style? Or is it because of the Russian influence?

It's both. Actually, i do not listen this guy, i just added him bcz he raps in kazakh. Many Kazakhstan's artists prefer russian in singing. And in regular speech we do have a lot of russian words, but it depends on region. Track called "sheker" by darkhan juzz Oh, btw thanks for watching

This is so important. Mothrrtongue like fatherland is a key as to who you are. I know some Turkish, and understand some Azeri, and bit further east. I listen to the olderr musick across Asia, Uzbek ( so sad the awful treatment they get). Fun songs/biyi like Kara jorga and beautiful Ay hanim suzuk chiray. Lived and travelled Anatolia for several years and still have friends. Father taught me to learn the language, as much as possible, when going to another country. He spoke High German, Frisian, Spanish fluently, and English of course. Started as German-American Texas cowboy , later Army officer ( muhabere subay?) . Later became fluent in Modern Greek and Turkish. For a yound 21 year old American to speak fair Turkish made it easy to make friends. I visited Azerbaijan briefly had no problem being understood. Sag ol kardaslarim.
