Welcome to a special Droomish event where we tackle the biggest phenomenon to hit Gen 3 Pokemon in 20 years... New DLC for the original games with original stories and events, playable on original hardware, and no hacking required. With the power of the Nintendo eReader, something unbelievable has been built on top of the already incredible Gen 3 Pokemon experience. It's the evolution of Pokemon Emerald- things will never be the same.
Pokemon Mystery Gifts have always been one of the most exciting elements of the earlier games. But as time has gone, the events have gotten less and less evocative as mini stories and encounters with mythical pokemon have been replaced with pokemon sent directly to the PC, with no legends attached to them- and many yearn for the types of events we would see in the past.
Fortunately for us, im_a_blisy has created an homage to the phenomenon that's as lifelike as possible- with a wave of content for the original games on original hardware that offers players a metric truckload of events with NEW stories for these old legends, all painstakingly themed and engineered to feel as authentic as possible. It's some of the greatest work I've ever seen in this community, and I can't wait to talk about it with you. Let's dive in!

Sorry it took me so long to leave a proper comment here, but, what a fantastic video. I felt almost narcissistic watching this, but the beauty of this vid is my favorite parts aren't even about me-- They're where you talk about what makes southern island feel special. Every word, visual, and sound effect perfectly encapsulated what made that island, these games, and these events special to me, and, I think, to all of us. That energy is what I wanted to capture in my own work, and I am genuinely am so happy you feel that they did. That you even compare me to Southern Island is an honor. Thanks for the opportunity to do this collab.

Love the idea my friend, Its honestly surprising to see how many others feel so nostalgic over these games and events but how creative you was to capture what made events like Southern Island so fun and re-create it, honestly, very commendable. The gen 3 games are always my favourite and was peak of the series for me, its so great seeing such a creative community still working around them to this day.

Honestly, what you did from a historical preservation stand point is purely amazing. So much gets lost to time. As servers go offline, websites die, hard drives crash, more and more gets lost. I am glad that this was not a part of forgotten history and can be relived and experienced. At the time these cards were out I couldn't afford everything to get them going. But now because of this, well its time to fulfill that missed opportunity and hang out with my inner kid for unfinished business!

The gen 4 legendary events (Darkrai, Cresselia, Shaymin, etc.) are some of the fondest memories I have. They made that region feel so much more alive and soaked in mystery. I'm not sure Pokemon can ever do anything that can fully recapture the magic of these gen 3 and 4 events.

they would do so much with so little and then answer the questions and give you closure later.. it's hard to put into words the range of emotions I remember feeling walking out of the fog in turnback cave and seeing a creature like giratina. it was really something else

@@droomish1 Turnback Cave was SO formative in my tastes and sensibilities in games as a kid. I had no idea Giratina existed when I played Diamond for the first time, so noticing Spring Path open up, finding Turnback Cave, and just seeing that towering demonic dragon after exploring was an experience I will never forget. Those games have such a strong sense of atmosphere and tone between the music and the environments. I'd give anything to feel that level of excitement in a Pokemon game again.

@@droomish1I think turnback cave was one of the last thing secret things I stumbled into with no knowledge of what I was getting into. Nowadays it’s hard to avoid spoilers of secrets or maybe it’s just years of experience making it harder and harder to truly be shocked and in awe at the same time. I’ll always hold onto that memory of finding the cool ghost dragon sitting ominously in the fog lol

BDSP, out of all games, had the Distortion Room, which somewhat reminded me of the Legendary event rooms from Gen 3 and 4. Too bad it was for a previously mandatory Legendary (in Platinum) that used to have an entire dungeon to its name, and was added solely to get its signature held item and show off assumedly cut content. Legends Arceus was also riddled with quests that also gave a very slight hint of Gen 4 Legendary event energy, being optional side quests that resulted in the Legendary appearing. With the full main-line games, however, they'd rather make DLCs than hide Legendaries in a dungeon. And while DLCs do have a lot more area and content (and makes more money for TPC) than just adding a base game dungeon off to the side, they make the included Legendaries feel more like things that are hard - if not impossible - to miss instead of hard to find. For S/V, there _is_ the ruin quartet in the base game, but they aren't attached to a dungeon at all. You do a collect-a-thon and can immediately enter the capture room. That's like if Seafoam Island opened up after you cleared the trainers on Route 20, and Articuno was immediately sitting by the entrance.

@@michael-fw3vzi have a fond memory of running to my brothers room after discovering giratina and we both stared at my DS in amazement !! we were both cheering as I tried to catch him and I helped guide him through finding giratina himself🥹 cut to platinum and hes the one running to my room when he reaches giratina at spear pillar!!!🥹🥹

The downside of having special story events is that they usually can't be repeated in the future once the game is no longer being worked on. Without third-party help, the events would be lost to time. You just had to be lucky enough to be alive at the time the event happened. That's kinda why I like this card-reader idea. It doesn't matter how long its been, as long as you have the card printed for it (and the card-reader too) you can still play these events. It does wonders for game preservation.

As a kid, I remember spending dozens of hours online trying to find secrets or glitches to get these hidden mons or the events. I kept watching videos where a guy wrote some instructions on a notepad and was suddenly teleported to the jungle or navel rock, and I painstakingly tried recreating all of them until accepting that it wouldn't happen. Gen 3 really did just have the atmosphere for this, because many of the areas focused so much on mythology. You had very believable stories because they fit in with the rest of the game - if the regi story was true, why wouldn't beating the elite 4 77 times to launch the rocket to find deoxys also be true? And this game, aside from maybe gen 4, had some of the most mystical music; I still have memories of some deep emotion from childhood, something a bit uncomfortable but not quite fear or sadness, relating to the abandoned ship and meteor falls music.

I remember begging my parents as a kid to go to any gen 3 event, they always told me no, and I thought, that’s fine. They are busy and these events will probably happen again! I think about those missed opportunities a lot… But I still have an E reader and my Game Boy and sapphire version!! I will absolutely be looking into this. Always love how your videos focus on the sentimental and mythical aspects of the old games. I'm a gen 3 baby too so I'm sure there's a bit of bias, but you always do such a great job capturing the soul and whimsy this era of pokemon had. Where they were really pushing the envelope with their exploration and world building I went to some of these in person events back then and really nothing out of the franchise these days quite captures those same feelings of a big world full of nature and mystery around every corner anymore.

I only ever attended the Manaphy Toys R US event for my copy of Diamond but I do remember my grandmom got me an Action Replay, and I used that to get event items. It was the only way for me to experience the mystery of these events. I loved Darkrai so much. Another oddity to me back then was getting Spiritomb

Event giveaway places are great because they add lore to the Pokémon series, and you have the option to pick what Monster Ball you want your Pokémon to be in and check to see if they have the Nature you want. The best save spots can be before going to the available places.

Thanks for the wonderful video! The part where you talked about the southern island event reminds me of one of the recent Pokemon x Vocaloid song titled "Mugen Ticket" (Eon ticket's Japanese name), i think the song does a wonderful job of capturing that feeling of childhood wonder of getting the ticket and experiencing the special Latios/Latias encounter. I did not get to experience it myself, but i think the composer of that song did, and they wrote the song partly based on that feeling. Listening to this video and that song gives me a tremendous feeling of nostalgia i never even personally experienced. I think its beautiful how this is a universal experience regardless of where you live or what language you speak. I recommend checking it out and reading the translation (in bulbapedia) to anyone interested! :)

Your videos are really well made and it's clear you put a lot of effort into your work, however one thing I can't help but notice is the lack of background music. I have a theory as to why Pokémon stopped doing in-game events like Southern Island or Faraway Island: players could hack or glitch the game to reach these locations to obtain the Pokémon there, and the mons would pass every hack check no problem. It's sad, but it is what it is.

Does the Mew card actually take you to Faraway Island if its in Emerald? Since the mew event for emerald was that way. It wasnt in the original Ruby and Sapphire so doing it the way he did makes sense for those games at least

I mean… it’s compatible with those original cartridges as long as you have an extra NON-SP GBA, a peripheral I’ve never met another owner of, and those original carts still have a working battery

the e-reader works with the SP you just need to put the link cable in the link port

@@imablisy I am holding my e-reader and my SP right now. You tell me how the hell this works. The cart slot is on the bottom of the SP instead of the top like the original. There is this doohickey in front of the cart-shaped part of the e-reader, which slid into a port on the top of the original GBA. Now there is nowhere for that doohickey to go to, and it obstructs easily sliding the cart-shaped part into the SP's cart slot, and if you did force it in all the way and didn't break off the doohickey, it would now be blocking easy access to the Select button.

@@pantslesswrock it does not obstruct the ereader from being plugged in, the link port fits overtop the gbasp and then you plug it into the sps actual link port

Hey Droomish, here's an idea for a video discussion or a community post or whatever: **The Ugly Side of Gen 3 Pokémon** There's a reason why I prefer the Gen 4 games over Gen 3, despite having spent tons of time with both generations growing up: Gen 4-onward had proper wireless connectivity from the very beginning. Do you know the untold *frustration* that came with being one of dozens of schoolkids with GBCs/GBAs and *no* friggin link cable?! How about a better scenario for you: that one annoying kid who plays unfair and whines whenever you call him out on his bullshit was the one who had the friggin link cable. Would you take the chance at him swiping your Golem, Machamp, Alakazam, or whatever else after it evolves? I never did. Gen 4 is the peak of childlike Pokémon enthusiasm for me because wireless connectivity from the very beginning meant that we could *finally* trade stuff with our friends locally without needing to goad our parents into buying a link cable!

So I've done the Pomeg glitch with the Decamark symbol and turned seedot into a Jirachi and a Celebi (terrible 5IV's) and I EV trained them, with the sole intention of battling up on my tv through pokemon Colloseum. But Pokemon colloseum views them as bad eggs and won't let me battle, yet emerald to Emerald with a link cord did let me battle and didnt call them bad eggs. Before I buy any hardware, are we 100% certain these event pokemon will work in battle across all hardware, even gamecube?

Whoops looks like you kinda answered my question later in the video. But I'm guessing you havent tried putting these mystery gift mons through pokemon gamecube games yet...?
