its sad that the Steam Deck is still unavailable in so many countries (even after 2 years since it was released), thankfully I was able to get the ROG Ally and it is really amazing, Ive been a huge fan of portable gaming for 15 years and now I can play almost everything.

I was always a handheld gamer. I loved home consoles but I loved portables even more. Those were always what I gamed on first. Also the Vita wasn't too powerful, it suffered from poor marketing. The Vita did well sales wise in Japan, Sony just never bothered to market the thing well. The switch alone proves that the Vita wasn't too powerful

I remember when the switch was announced, I joked with my friends it was the never poop without Zelda again machine. Side note got my steam deck few months ago and I love it. Mostly emulation but played some pc only that I missed like Jedi knight one.

One thing ill note quickly, if a game has a pc port from the 360/ps3, play the pc version. Anything not XBLA can have some performance issues. Ps3, xbox 360 and switch are the max of what the deck can do, some games will run great others will choke

@@mjcox242 Oh yeah, this is absolutely correct. I have a bunch of PS3 games on the deck and only about 60% of them work. PS3 emulation is difficult anyways, but hopefully it will improve one day! Same goes for Xbox 360.

Wow, this channel is hugely underrated! I love to find such viby videos with some stories from childhood. In 00's I was a kid and felt in love with GBA SP, when I saw that one of my classmates has some king of a gaming device in his hands. I've asked him to try it and it was so freaking awesome! But it was hard to afford something like this in early 00's in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, and PC gaming was the best option at the time. And for a long time I was playng my PC and consoles which I bought later. But, as the russian war against Ukraine started and these bastards attacked our power plants and other related infrastucture, I've considered to buy Nintendo Switch to use it during rolling blackouts. True portable gaming ended with 3DS and Vita - all the portable PC handhelds are NOT portable just too big and too heavy. Switch is also way too big and even fragile with the detachable controllers. Well, Switch Lite does work - it's fairly light and pretty sturdy but honestly I hate playing home console games on the go. Give me quick easy to pick up and put down games for on the go. All those new so called handhelds are just couch consoles and if you are going to sit on the couch and play you might as well play on a big screen with a full controller.

I agree with you. The steam deck and other PC gaming handhelds are pretty big and very inconvenient to carry around. However, I do bring my steam deck to work and play it on my lunch break. I don’t know about you, but playing windwaker in my car at work is a pretty surreal experience! It’s annoying and inconvenient, but awesome.

Sorry, but this video feels like a 16 minutes rant from someone that is not able to appreciate 2D games. I actually bought a Trimui Smart Pro to enjoy Game Boy Advance games, since those are simpler games, easy to pick up when you are on the go. 3D is not always better than 2D.

I absolutely agree. I couldn’t appreciate 2D games when I was younger. But I have been trying to branch out and play some of those older 2D games that I missed out on. I tried to explain the main point of this video was to show how handheld games appeared to be the same as console games because of the cover art. But I did lose focus 😂 Thanks for watching!!

There's 2 schools of thought, portable games(in reality 2d games) are ass, or portable games are great. I can see that you and many other's didn't like many handhelds bc of their limited capabilities. Which is fair I personally besides a game with a superhero in it, wasn't too fond over 3d games. Graphics/power weren't things that mattered to me. My first portable was a ps vita, and a bit later was the 3ds. Later on I do admit when we bought our switch I did stop playing those 2 for a good while, but lately I'm coming back to them. Even bought a dslite and gba just for pokemon. I guess it really depends on the genre/style of game one likes. I've always liked platformers, metroidvania's, RPG's, and many arcade games(like fighting games) and anything marvel/DC really

I grew up as a portable gamer. The first console I was given was a Game Gear. I played the first three levels of Sonic 2 over and over. It was insane how I was so excited to keep things with me wherever I went. I’d later receive a GameBoy, and that would introduce me to Kirby and some arcade classics. I think that’s why the Switch was such a huge deal to me…..until it wasn’t. But, I love my Steam Deck.

I've never seen your channel before but I agree with *most* of your points. I happen to love having a tiny console and own the switch, steam deck, and 3ds. My personal favorite is the 3ds, but I love the steam deck too. I honestly can't stand the switch because it's just a worse steam deck in pretty much every way. I have played so many 3ds and steam deck games, I've gotten tenfold my money's worth. Absolutely recommend both systems.

That’s crazy you mention that, because I haven’t played my switch in months. But, I just got a 3DS last week and have been playing a ton of A Link Between Worlds. I LOVE the 3DS and so glad I got it. I also modded it since it was so easy. And I play my steam deck every single day. 100% agree with you on everything you said!

I personally got the vita 4 year's ago and little old me never knew there were portable fps games jrpgs and whatnot i may have owned a 2DS for 8 years but the ps vita was a revolutionary discovery for me sure i own a switch lite but i put more time on my ps vita than the switch lite excluding the times ive put hours on smash bros and crysis remastered, i also spent so much on metroid dread. But the vita for me is the W i love playing with it so much, blazblue, gundam breaker 2, God eater 2 and so much more!

We're also in a golden age of retro handhelds. They're not as powerful as the Steam Deck and usually have a worse UI, but they come in all shapes and prices. There's a new device coming out of China like every week, we're actually spoiled for choice. Personally, I really want a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro as it is basically a smaller and cheaper Steam Deck. It can only run up to PS2 but for me that's not a problem.

I have the Retroid 3+ and it does pretty much anything i need it to do. The 4+ would be a sick upgrade, but if you can scoop a 3+ under $100 you wont be disappointed.

Portable gaming IS inferior. And honestly, I don’t think that’s gonna change due to the nature of technology. PC and console games will always look and play better (and in my opinion more comfortably) than portable gaming. The advantage of portable games is that you can take them with you. You’re on vacation and wanna play something quick before bed? Well you’re sure not gonna lug around your ps5 or gaming pc. But a switch or steam deck will do just wonderfully. Portable game platforms also tend to be a bit more affordable. Except the Steam Deck, that one sucks ass for the outrageous price they sell it for.

@@taylor2663 yeah, but there’s literally no reason other than being a spoiled brat to buy a switch oled. And 400 bucks for a “pc” handheld with only 64 GB internal storage is quite unacceptable. Although, for the switch, the games are quite pricey and they never go down in price. Like at all. Even after years from release. Personally I got a switch some years ago and now I got a steam deck, because for a few months now, I never get time to play either my ps5 or my steam games. Still waiting for the deck though.

Watching this after bringing my 14 year old PSP back to life was refreshing. I want to take it with me to trips because I only used to do it. Even though it's old, it aged like wine (except the graphics and well, online functionality... But I digress). Maybe someday I'll have a Steam Deck. For now, hopefully my PSP will live long enough so my children will know what I grew up with.

I do admit piracy definitely is not the way to go. I don’t condone stealing. I should have worded it a better way.. that’s my fault. But the steam deck is still incredible for the games you can get natively on steam! Like God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Halo, Hades, Animal Well, and so many more incredible games. @@kcdeku7154 there’s a huge market, could probably be a whole video. And it’s still growing with company’s starting to go for DS/SP clamshell designs. I think within the year handhelds as small as an iPhone 14 should be able to play PlayStation and GameCube close to flawless for around 200 bucks. As of now the rg405m can play games like kingdom hearts, windwaker, melee, but not all the titles. The main players I’ve seen are miyoo and anbernic they both constantly drop new models. With anbernic having the strongest with a 4:3 screen ratio in the 405m

What's really good about GameCube emulation is that some games have widescreen hard patches. Colosseum, Luigi's Mansion, and TTYD just to name a few.

Yeah I guess I could’ve named the video something more accurately.. it was mainly just my experience with the evolution of portable gaming. I didn’t want to speak on handhelds I’ve never used. Like I wanted to include the Sega Gamegear! But I’ve never once used it or played a single game from it. I’d hate to give an opinion that isn’t genuine or just talk about something just to include it. But I do appreciate you watching the video and the feedback!

I just personally didn’t like it that much. I probably didn’t have the right games though. It all depends on what you like. But the DS has hundreds if not thousands of games! I’m sure everyone can find something they like on it!
