Route 248 has changed dramatically since its introduction, so here's a potted history of the route from the renumbering in 1934 (before which the route ran as London General G3, but dates are uncertain so I have only included the London Transport and privatisation years) at which point it ran as a shuttle from Upminster to Cranham, through to its current form operating between Romford Market and Cranham, with no original roads served!
