omg i remember the first ever owl where you got too choose what team u supported and got a skin for that team and got points depending on how much they won, i chose shangai dragons, they did not win a single round that season.
I can't remember who I picked. Have a green and white/black genji skin tho. It might be optix now that I think about it. Maybe it's just a random one tho
if you get hacked and virus she can down you in like 4 bullets so anything short of a tank will die right away, she turned into the new widow maker, the team with the best sombra wins @@ChillBill327
See even though this sombra melts you now quickly. I like this one more because she can’t just run way the fuck away. As a brig player she was never a worry, but at least now I don’t have to counter swap brig every time sombra is played.
@@ibara8824 again, I’m a brig main. That’s who I would switch to to have an ex game against her. Now I won’t have to at all because any character can deal with her because she can’t just scoot on out
i remember when the translocator was indesturctable. SO MANY people would shoot at it thinking they could destroy it, and honestly? i don't blame them.
Sombra was also the reason why you had to cap at least 1 tick (33.33%) on the point if the other team didn't cap a tick, since there were times a team would only cap like 5% and you only needed to cap 5.1% to win, which forced someone to always be on point, or you would just lose in pretty much an instant when an invis Sombra touched it.
The best part of all of it is the "eh fuck it, just call it stealth" And like, I don't think it's so much 'you can see the power creep on her entire kit" and more "omfg we really need to actually learn how to design heroes correctly. We need to fix this trash fire"
I have to disagree with you flats. Original sombra EMP was arguably better than current EMP. Think about it, yes current emp does percentage based damage, but only disables targets for 1.5 seconds, whjich means there is counterplay potential. Original EMP, however, disabled abilities for 8 seconds (if memory serves). AND there was 1 more person on the team (6v6). Which means, you could potentially disable an entire teams abilities for 8 seconds while your team could just walk right up and execute them.
I think it was 5.5 seconds to match the ability lockout of the hack ability. But yeah original EMP was better. Also back then barriers were a lot of stronger and more prevalent so instantly wiping them out was a major plus
I think the skill ceiling of emp in the current itteration is stronger. In a perfect environment (OWL level), 1.5sec is all you need to take out key targets like supports and at the time 40% max hp dmg is going to help with that. If you kill 1 or 2 targets during emp, you win the fight anyways.
"better" depends on your perspective. in a coordinated teamplay environment, old EMP absolutely destroyed and was why towards the end of OW1 Sombra was almost a must pick for OWL teams.Teams would just farm EMP and the team that didn't have one ready for the next team fight would get crushed. But most people do not play in that kind of environment. Even at the highest ELO in ranked, sombra wasn't played by many people in OW1 because EMP required so much follow-up from your team to really capitalize on. You can watch old videos from Fitzyhere to see just how frequent he'd get flamed for even picking Sombra until he get well known even after her reworks. For the average player, new EMP is "better" simply because it's immediate value that is very easy to follow up on. Less reliant on others. Personally, I think new EMP is less interesting of an ult.
Any OW video essayists wanna talk about how Sigma is the most consistently balanced/unchanged hero in the game? I swear he came out, got a few tweaks, and then was left alone for years.
I mean nowhere near an ARG, but Mauga is up there in build-up. multiple in-game sprays, a comic introduction, shares features with a talon unit in game, and just recently Somoa which is entirely his map
Yes, they did balance the game around pro play in OW1 so much so that there were multiple complains from player saying that the game was losing the fun just to be balanced for the pro league, Lucio is probably the best example of receiving constant nerfs because of how much he was used in pro league while player base was complaining about it when he wasn't even played that much, this is not been the case in OW2 as much probably because Blizz is focussing less in making OW a Esport.
I remember when owl was streaming and the stream itself had a lot of weird visual bugs and buffered like crazy and chat kept spamming “sombras hacking”
That Shanghai Dragons Game on Horizon against SF is like a core memory to me from OW1 Cause at the time the main Mercy player for Shanghai, I believe it’s Coma on the clip, he would be playing Mercy and position without Giving A Damn about his life When DDing would barrage on Pharah, Coma’s always flying in and BodyBlocking in front and still healing
I always love these videos where you give a bit of a history lesson on Overwatch 1. I played the first 3 seasons but missed basically everything after. Its so cool to see how different the game was. I'd love to see more content of you talking about OW history!
7:35 her nano also use to insta heal to full hp even for 600 hp tanks like roadhog. Also, i definitely prefer sombra’s original emp as it was a perfect counter to shield health like from sound barrier and the silencing effect lasted a reasonable time.
I remember I was one of those goblins who would play Sombra on Total Mayhem and bully the hell out of the opponent by never laying off Hack. Then Brig released, and I became even more of a goblin in Total Mayhem with that Whipshot-Shield Bash loop to literally push opponents off the map. Yes, you can crucify me now. I don't play Overwatch anymore.
I remember capping objectives invis, ult off health packs, and playing brig as a dps in goats. Ahhh, good times, lmao As much as goats was, interesting to say the least, Zarya Rein was so much fun, people today will never know
Man at the start of this video I was SUPER nostalgic for OW1 but the further I watched into the video the less nostalgic I am and am glad that we left it behind. (yes I’m a genji player )
Im all for community puzzles regardless if they solved fast, its fun an interesting to see, don't tell the company they are to easy...please dont make that mistake
Bruh, bring back the invisible being on a timer, and I'd be completely fine with her, like it would be more skill-based and require good backline picks.
DPS can SMD, GOATS was dope, actually had to work with your team with mic to come up with someway to get through it. Now it’s just silent on “teammates”
it was shit like how they teased sombra that made me fall in love with this game. really sad to see it end up in the sad state its in now. hopefully it makes a comeback but personally, im doubtful.
Sombra reworks will continue until they solve the primary problem with her kit. INVISIBILITY. OW is a video game not a music stream. Invisibility is a defacto broken ability. Their refusal to "effectively" deal with "stealth" causes them to nerf her into the ground so that even with stealth shes not a threat but also not effective. Eventually they counter balance, but almost any buff to an invisible hero breaks the hero in the other direction, and so the cycle continues. The lesson here; An invisible hero is something for Manga and Movies, not a video game.
The issue with Sombra since the start of OW2 was that she had everything except poke damage. Invis, hack, EMP that nukes when focusing fire, translocator, decent tank shred, and executing backline. It’s insane she’s still like this since the pros literally told the devs she’s busted before the BETA even came out. If they took away/hard nerfed 2 of them with small compensations, she’d probably be niche but good instead of this “turn off brain” oppressive presence. No hack and translocator, no invis and backline assassin, some combination would probably work.
I wont say theres no way to make stealth balance-able considering spy in tf2 is one of the worst possible classes in high level lobbies, the problem is how little ways for you to bring her out of stealth in the first place. Spy on tf2 doesn't gain movement speed on stealth, sombra does Spy on tf2 doesn't have permanent stealth, sombra does Spy on tf2 has a one shot mechanic but only if hes up close which puts him at risk to his various counters, Sombra doesn't Spy on tf2 has the most amount of counterplay possible against him. Sombra literally didn't have 1 prior to her rework. You just either had to have god like reaction, or god like senses to shoot her out of hack/stealth without knowing when she'd arrive, where she'll be. Spy has a get out of jail free card that isn't a guaranteed escape, Sombra had a literal free escape. So honestly, I won't say you can't balance stealth, I'd say Blizzard is fucking shit at balancing it.
i miss being able to contest the point while invisible. i remember clutching a few games by running around the point invisible and throwing my translocater around to buy enough time for my team to get back. wish we still had old sombra tbh.
for me sombra always annyoied me when i was hacked and when she could hack while invis it was dumb because doom and hammond they were compleltly counterd by sombra but right now im okay with her she no longer having a free get out card and not having on command stealth is nice and hack only having 1 second of not being able to sue abiltiys aswell I FEEL OLD AAAA
why would u go dva in goats? her dm can only eat rein firestrike, zarya grav and second projectile, moira orb, lucio shots. I think the current sombra can work better if if her tp exist for 0.35 second but u can choose when to tp inside the duration and nerf the virus a bit.
Fun fact: Flats use to duo with Rascal and terrorize the ladder back in the day. Both with the highest sr by a mile and they managed to hold it for several months. It even got the attention of Blizzard. They were known as Rascal Flatts, and they rode out their victories all night long.
She’s seeming to head in a better direction but she’s still too powerful. Her kit is really a design flaw that makes it too difficult to make her good yet fair. A character that can be invisible, has great mobility, can hack your abilities, and is now also extremely powerful is game breaking. It did suck how weak her gun was before but this is too much. I think they need too at the least, make her escape ability show her a tad longer and take the virus amplifier back a bit. At least for now…. She’s so damn annoying….
Super weird take but I never fell for the Runaway/Titans hype. They never did well in apex with lunatics hai, lw blue, all the big good teams. They won apex after all those teams and players moved to OWL. The only thing they were good at was goats until they ran into Shock. I do t have hate for them, their story is one for the ages but I never got the runaway hype train.
*goats being incredibly oppressive and unfun to play or play against* "this was the best overwatch ever!!" If supports get to keep all their bs let the dps at least keep sombra
Blizzard: let's make a game all about using abilities on cooldowns Also blizzard 🤡: let's make a hero that deleted the entire core pillar of our gameplay design.
Fun fact, I just hopped into a game and I killed Ram as Sombra and she just went “Ay…sorry Boss.” I thought that maybe she was actually working with NS this entire time, which would make sense given that she infiltrated Talon for intel but I don’t know anymore. She’s such a complex character. 😐🫡
