Want to learn more about Kelly dolls?
In this video I share all my research and knowledge about the Kelly Doll, first released by Mattel in 1994 and worldwide by 1995. Sometimes, known as Shelly, she built an empire as Barbie's little sister and her accessories and playsets are some of the most sought after collector items today as she was discontinued in 2010.
Kelly and all her friends were, of course, adorable!
In 1995 Kelly doll helped Mattel make a huge profit in the 90s, grossing $1.5 billion in Barbie total sales in 1995! Of course, popularity of Barbie has gone down hill somewhat since 1995 due to body image and other controversies faced by the doll line. But Kelly is one of the most wholesome additions to the Barbie line and the more I collect her and her playsets the more I hold fond memories of this doll!

Hi! This is the best! But I’d like to correct that she was definitely Kelly here in Canada too! I was a HUGE Kelly fan as a child. I remember learning she was “Shelly” in Europe and being confused as to why.

@@barbiehospital9648 it was only 5 dollars in the box and in perfect condition when me and my sister found it, we also found the polly in my pocket barbie backpack thing for only two dollars and it was in perfect condition. We didn't realize how valuable they were so of course we opened the box but we still have both of them in decent condition too

I had several of the barbies and Kelly's that you showed in your video. Unfortunately I don't have them anymore. I really miss them. I wish Mattel would bring back the Kelly dolls. I prefer the smaller size dolls. I also love the infant dolls that Mattel currently has. They are so cute.

Yes! I wish they would too! I have about 15 Kelly dolls...so far! But it would be great to have the originals with all the accessories 💝💝💝 they’re so adorbs 🥰 🙏🏼 that would have been so cool if you kept your old dolls, I thought I was too cool when I turned 12 and sold all mine too 🤦🏼‍♀️ haha little did I know 30 year old me would wish I kept them 🤣

I ended up losing my barbie and Kelly and other dolls when I became homeless years ago. Fortunately I was able to get into a stable home situation. I only had a couple of barbie dolls when I was a kid. I started collecting dolls when I was an adult. I play dolls with my 4 yrs old great niece. We have a good time playing together.

The first true "Kelly" set was my first barbie toy. I miss it still, 30odd years later xD. I'm hoping to purchase another set off ebay, but vintage barbies are so hard to find in australia, at least in really good condition.

So I’m 13 years old, technically when I was born. Kelly was discontinued. But I had an older sister that grew up in the 90’s and 00’s and I was lucky enough a bunch of Kelly dolls and my mum loves Kelly dolls and she would collect Kelly dolls to represent her friends! I had many, many play sets and my favourite Kelly play set was the big playground they had. And I still have every single barbie set (my family does not like to Chuck out toys). I’m obviously really sad that I didn’t get the experience of picking out my own Kelly dolls and choosing it because now I have Chelsea. I wish they still had them ! Because I use to (still now) play with their long, long hair and dress them up in cute outfits. (Not to mention, the old version barbie eyes looked beautiful and now they look the same but diff colours which I kind of hate) and the new version of kelly dolls have plastic hair that I’m not a fan of 😂. But I really hope they somewhat bring out kelly dolls back in stores ❤.

That’s so cool that your family has lots of vintage toys! They definitely don’t make them that good anymore, if they bought out Kelly again that would be incredible - it just seems like Mattel is skimping so much on quality these days sadly 😩 I have the playground in my set! Those were the days when Kelly was in the picture, it's a shame that Mattel had to discontinued her and replace her with Chelsea. I didn't know about this til now and I don't understand why, she was so cute! It's confusing to know if Chelsea IS Kelly as in they're the same character because it's not like she died and Chelsea was adopted, which would be way too dark for Barbie standards. I wasn't sure if that means Tommy aka Ken's little brother no longer exist either?

Oh right! She was the cutest!! It doesn’t seem like there’s a storyline to it - and I can’t see it being a financial decision as Kelly has always been a moneymaker but I like your creativity! Yes now there are just a bunch of other male baby dolls - they seem to just fade into oblivion - poor Kelly I prefer her to Chelsea for sure - it is just a re brand to try and make more money I suppose. Chelsea is now the Kelly/barbies little sister

@@barbiehospital9648 I even remember the time when Christie was the originally the black friend of Barbie and with Teresa who's the Latina one, they were always a trio until Christie apparently got replaced by Nicole I believe that's her name, which makes me wonder if she's the same character but different name. I've even heard that Stacie used to be called Tutti and had a twin brother named Todd.

@@barbiehospital9648 It's crazy to know they are chances that you may not notice after haven't even looked into the newer dolls because to me they didn't change much like I know the My Little Pony characters already look different. It would've been nice to introduce an Asian friend to make a foursome like Bratz, white, black, Latin and Asian. I even got hooked on Bratz as well and I wasn't sure if that franchise is still a thing right now, not My Scene though and that was big too. Those were the days!

I had Potty Training Kelly and Eat N Fun Kelly and I loved playing with them. I remember thinking Potty Training Kelly's pink binky looked like a ring. I always wanted Baby Sister Kelly because I loved her crib with the mobile. I also remember wanting the Kelly with the musical crib. I had a Princess Kelly that came in my Princess and the Pauper Annelise doll and their tiny friends and Sarafina. I don't have both princesses or Sarafina or tiny friends anymore, just the Princess and the Pauper movie on VHS.

I had Chicken Pox in 1st grade ( 97/98), it was not fun with the itchiness and fever. I had a Love N Go Cabbage Patch doll to help me feel better only I got her on Christmas that year. I too had a Potty Training Kelly doll and I loved her clear bottle so I can see how much water I put in it, so cute. I loved both dolls though.

I have that Tiny Steps Kelly doll. My twin sister has the Pool Gun Kelly but she looks more like Christie. We share a Shoppin’ Fun Kelly Set that has Christie instead of Barbie. Those are our only Kelly sets as of right now.

@@barbiehospital9648 her box was a bit messed up, with tiny, barely noticeable stains on both the doll and the box and old dried up glue and stuff like that. It works just like in the commercial. We got the two Kelly’s for our birthday in 2021 with Teen Skipper (1997) and my sister got Happen’ Hair Barbie (1999)

I'm convinced Kelly is actually Barbie's daughter but Mattel didn't want to get in trouble for marketing Barbie having babies so they said it's her baby sister.
