Reman1975 of course, you don’t have to hear her blabber about her bad makeup, how she wants new clothes, how bad of a driver you are etc. Who would like to hear that?
DiabeticMan1234 yeah, he's one of the few people I know who are actually fluent in both languages, in their W108 episodes he's speaking almost native-like
John Carlyle If it’s a MK3, it has to be a VR6 for me. They were good back in the day, but mine is so fragile now it’s beyond a joke. Something breaks literally every time I start it and parts are getting harder to find.
@@alextegg3838 well my first car was a VR6 from 1993 and i'm still driving it. fully specked and everything still works even the elctric roof. but the VR6 is the best golf ever build and i'm never going to sell it.
@@elukok By whom? The Golf generations got heavier with every generation before the lighter Golf 7 started production - so please don't spread false info..
@@elukok yeah that what I've heard. The mk4 weighed a lot, more than other hatches in its class. I do think they look good though, can look very good done up. Worst one would be mk3 imo, just looks mundane
The MK4 v5 and V6 models might've been a nice mention, the (non R32), I find them quite cool because they pack a nice cylinder count, unique engine layouts and hide in a normal golf exterior
Exactly, I got a MK4 VR5 myself, it's funny as hell when people expect a normal Golf pulling up, but when I accelerate they turn around because it sounds like a V10 Viper is coming
The video being 9:11 long reminded of something. I genuinely love how the car community works, despite all our differences, everyone just gets along for the love of all things automotive. As a minority, I'm grateful to everyone for not making this amazing community toxic. Peace be upon you all ❤
I feel like the Golf is the really cheap Porsche 911. It has spread out on multiple decades, is a massive success to the company. It is always evolving and new models are rolling out whilst still keeping the body shape the same and the driving characteristics more or less the same. I've driven all a Golf in forms and generations ((hatch, wagon, 3 door, 5 door) except a mk1 and cabriolet). Yet they all manage to feel alike. Not that the new golfs are like the old ones, it's just a certain feeling of familiarity you get in them. They're iconic cars.
Well yeah so we might hate each other's car choices and opinions at parts but we love the fact that everybody gets along when talking about cars. Cars are way more than just taking you from point A to point B, they have souls. They take us to the most important events of our lives and we get to compete with them as well. Some people appreciate them for that some less but those who do always get along together. And thats what cars are all about :)
@@royliber3824 You're absolutely right. I really like the bit about hating each other's choices of cars and parts loool, I can live with that. And if it didn't exist, the whole community would feel as though it's missing something. I think it's one of the things that has significance contribution in engaging enthusiasts with each other. Me and my friends don't have much in common when it comes to cars and I love it, it always makes our conversations that tiny bit better and somewhat competitive. If you don't mind me asking, what do you drive and what's your dream car?
@@foyz725 I agree... Its nice to hear other people's opinions about different cars. Im currently drivng a manual 2017 Renault Clio 0.9TCe. Turbocharged 3 cylinder with 90HP but I would say enough to commute altho 0-60 is quite rubbish (12 seconds lol). I love the car tho it has style and its fuel efficient and its everything I need at this point of life. dream car I would say Lexus LFA probably or Ferrari California (fell inlove with the California ever since ive been at Italy few years back). I guess tho an all-rounder wouldve been a G63 AMG for pure offroading and I guess grocery shopping and stuff :P
I’ve had seven mk1 and mk2 Golfs. Loved them all apart the mk1 diesel which was a complete turd. Late 8v GTI is a solid daily driver and strangely offers the best petrol consumption of all Golfs at nearly 40mpg. The one to buy if you want to go oldskool. 16v KR is a blast but can be expensive when the head needs overhauling. I deny the existence of the mk3 and the best looking mk4 Golf is the mk1 Leon Cupra R 😁
Why don't u like the Mk3 too? I own one with the shitty 1.4 engine and without any safety features or AC whatsoever and I love its simplicity and they way it handles and drives in general, I am actually thinking of getting a 2.0 16V
Andy - apart from better looking (early cars looked a bit awkward but the 2003 facelift transformed it) , the regular Cupra had a 178bhp lump from the TT while the Golf GTI had to make do with 150bhp until 2002. If you wanted more the Cupra R added another 30bhp, going up to 221bhp with later engines. Sure the R32 had another 17bhp on top of that but that’s a different engine and a different car. Don’t get me wrong, I love Golfs but the Mk4 styling was just dull compared, and the Leon could offer sportier options to help promote awareness of the brand and model without denting VW’s bottom line. So yeah aside from the great R32, the best mk4 is a 2003+Leon. Never had one but got a soft spot for Boras too.
Sirbu Mihai - the mk3 was a lardy replacement lacking the sharper lines of the even simpler mk2. Heavier too. VR6 is great but the 2.0 GTI 8v offers less power than the older 1.8 lump. 16v now EFI so power up to 150bhp from old KR’s 139bhp but extra weight largely counters this. Mk3 isn’t a bad car as such but it’s not a driver’s choice without 12 or 16 valves.
@@scunnerdarkly4929 I really wonder if more valves is the end all be all ....I had 84 GTI 8 valves that would rip to 210Kph as needed , only one valve lash adjustment , 460,000Km before I sold it . Now I have 16 VVT that rip to 165Kmph as needed ....I need a lot of road for 210Kph (ECU?) Only 166,666Km an needs valve lash adjustment already.
@@bones6978 yup agree. The mk3 is what I'd describe as mundane. I liked the mk4, but the weight let it down. Would probably have felt like driving a heavy Audi
thank you alex! because of you I had the courrage to start my own channel! Me and my friends build and drive crazy bimmer, something you would probably enjoy watching!
Thank you because now that W12 concept is stuck in my head it was beautiful it was the best thing i’ve ever seen i love the Golf R’s and GTI’s and seeing that was a thing of beauty
@@Abraxium He is from Germany and was born during the time the Nazis were in charge. Being in the Hitlerjugend was mandatory back then, so yes, he was in the Hitlerjugend. (By the way, Ratzinger isn't pope anymore, just wanted to mention it.)
as i finish watching this, i look out my front window at my mk3 5 door Golf that i VR6 swapped. we couldn't get that setup in america, 5 doors and the sweet "wookie" engine. it hauls my kids and groceries, car parts, and anything else i want, and looks great. it's a fantastic little hatch, one of my favorites (it's my 12th vw)
My parenta still have a golf mk2 to this day, all I know about is dat it's the earliest version, I have driven it and it's a really cool experience, they plan to fix it up and hopefully it becomes mine in the future
I've got/done far worse tattoos .. there's a meaning with it being a first car ✌ plus I'm the tattooist so if I get bored with it can cover it over anyway
I had my grandpa's Golf Mk1 1.6 55hp NA diesel up to 2015 when dad decided to sell it. It was smokey and slow af, but it was hell of a fun to roll some coal on tailgaters. It was a really enjoyable car to drive, especially slowly cruising at 60 km/h in 5th gear.
E-Golf wasn't the first production electric Golf ever made. The Golf 1, 2 and 3 has small scale production models, the CityStromer. (And Elektro in case of the Golf 1, which had two variants.) And before GTE, there was the limited production TwinDrive of which there were made only 20 units, if i remember correctly.
The mk1 was produced in South Africa until 2009 because it was selling very well. It had numerous facelifts, interior upgrades as well as engine upgrades. It was discontinued in 2009 because it didn't meet the safety regulations of the time. It is a very popular car here especially among petrol heads because there are parts everywhere available in SA
I'm on my 3rd Golf. All estates! Had a mk3, mk4 and recently got a mk7 R!! Mega cars and the R is mega fun for a wagon!! Good review Ethan ( I mean Alex!!!)!
I have had Golfs for 14 yrs now , Mk4 GT TDI 110 , Mk5 1.9TD SE , Mk6 1.6 TDI SE. Now own the Mk7 2.0 GT TDI 150 Build Quality for the price is exceptional. Good solids cars. Don't think i will ever own a different Car.
I bought a MK6 2.0 TDI to replace my Lexus IS200, And I have to say, The Golf is a nicer car to own in every respect. Cheaper on fuel, Road tax (In the England) is £30 opposed to £325 for the IS, It's a lot more fun to chuck about on country lanes, and more flexibility with regards to boot space. Mine's a BlueMotion version, So I get 60+mpg opposed to the IS200's 21!?!?!? (I wouldn't have minded that 21mpg if I felt I was getting my money's worth out of it, But when you were giving it some..... Well, It was nowhere near as quick as other 21mpg cars I've driven. :( ). OK, It's got less BHP, But it makes up for that by having about 50% more torque. Even on standard suspension, If you fit decent tyres on it you can out corner quite a few supposedly hot hatches, And for a 400 quid remap you can have 190ish bhp and over 300lb/ft of torque. You'd spend a lot more than this to get that kind of power hike out of most cars in it's price range. Only thing I really miss about the IS200 is it being rear wheel drive. :(
I had a mk4 golf gti loved it however head gasket went now currently have a gold mini 2003 with everything done to it basically a new car however I do miss my golf
They are FWD, i don't understand why you say that they are good at going sideways, they are excellent cars, i have 1980s mk1 gti and 0% issues of 6 years ownership...
My first car was a 1.3 mk2 Golf, it was horribly slow but I had so much fun in that car. it blew the headgasket trying to pull 4 people plus luggage up the alps
I love my Mk5 . 2.0 (wish I had the r32 or gti) but I push my golf in city and distance driving around Africa since 2007 and the only problem I’ve had is an air con issue. Not 1 mechanical fault on 170 000km! And she still looks great
I love my Mk3 VR6 project and Mk5 R32 daily (both manual). Mk4 R32 probably still the most special though. Cool summary of the generations. R.I.P the VR6 sound.
