How has the record of the world's tallest coaster progressed over the years? Let's find out today on Theme Park Crazy. Sean Flaharty: / @seanflaharty MERCH LINK: teespring.com/... Patreon Link: / themeparkcrazy Music by NCTRNM
Apparently Sansei's archives show that Fuji Q Highland's Giant Coaster was actually 25 meters tall instead of 40. Apparently the 40 meters stat came from the altitude instead of the height. This came from a Parkvault article that came out shortly after my video did. The information in this video was based on what information was publically available at the time.
People are falling down the roller coaster and they are falling for 2829272927 feet and they died in 1910 and they were alive again in 2021 but they didn't have any children in the ride but THEY WAS SRCAMING TO DEATH
@@imverypoorlmao8068 Goliath is pretty high (in my opinion, i rode it and it felt like i was going up the chainlift forever) but it was still far from setting a record. Goliath came out Feb 11, 2000, and it's 255 ft, while Millennium Force was 310 ft (if you want to count Superman, then thats 415 ft tall, but Goliath is complete circuit) which is a 55 foot difference. Wasn't gonna set any height records, but still high enough if you don't want to ride Millennium Force and Superman. Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka are very high; a good majority of people who want to ride a "really high" coaster won't want to ride those, I'd assume
@@saviourscorpius Millennium Force didn't open until May 2000. However, Fujiyama's height is listed as 259 ft, so I don't think Goliath broke the height record, but it might have broke the drop record.
This will be the last reupload of this video. I have corrected the height stats on Magnum XL-200, and added in segments for Atomic Coaster and Mindbender. Thank you for your patience. Also, this video lists coasters by structural height and not drop height.
@@AmigaX The first time, I had to correct Magnum XL-200's height (I listed it as 200 ft. instead of 205 ft). The second time I had to add in segments for Atomic Coaster and Mindbender.
Can we just get an honorable mention in chat for Phantom's Revenge? Largest drop when it was created as Steel Phantom back in 1991 at about 228 I believe. Although it was only about 162 feet tall.
Dragster's promo shows that you'll be looking 11 stories down on Millennium Force, and indeed it's the only place in the park that will make Millennium appear small.
they would have to make it an S&S thrust air and give it an obnoxiously long launch track so they can kick up the acceleration every time they lose the height record, by the time they finally lose the record for good they'll have the most intense launch on earth
I was always told that Top Thrill Dragster was the first strata coaster. What they were not specific about was that TTD was the first FULL CIRCUIT strata coaster! Superman Escape from Krypton was just the first strata overall.
Its a similar case to Moonsault Scramble at Fuji-Q Highland. It was the first one to break 200 feet, but since it doesn't complete a full circuit, it isn't considered to be the first hypercoaster.
@@Valhalla05 Cedar Point created the rules for the term hyper just to manipulate the public into thinking they built the tallest coaster. There's no reason to follow it
@@Sythe5665 There would have been a term for those coasters with or without Cedar Point. Also, grow up, it has nothing to do with "manipulating the public", it's just something they did to help market the ride and it caught on with the coaster community.
I love how the records branch out as rollercoasters evolve into different varieties. Wicked Twister still holds the record as the tallest inverted coaster, Son Of Beast and T Express hold wooden records, I believe Hyperion is the tallest inverting rollercoaster, and Fury 325 is the tallest non launching coaster
Loved this! I'm from St. Louis, so my home park has always been Six Flags St. Louis. The park had always advertised one of its coaster, Screaming Eagle, as the tallest roller coaster in the world when it opened in 1976. So it was really interesting to earn that it had already been beat 10 years before it opened!
I rode the Screamin' Eagle 🦅🎢 when it first opened! Also, enjoyed the sky glider (cable seated) ride they used to have. Back then the amusement park was called Six Flagg's over Mid America, in Eureka, Missouri.
You'd love it but only if you can afford the express line pass. Otherwise, the lanes are so long that its not worth it imo. It is the best amusement park ive ever been to but you absolutely need express lane pass. Top Thrill Dragster while technically being shorter and slower than Kingda Ka, was much more intimidating imo given its theme, music and whole dragster start up. It is really a one of a kind coaster experience that you cannot imagine until you try it yourself. The only bad part is that it ends in like 15 seconds lol... But those moments waiting up until those 15 seconds are anxiety enducing. Kingda Ka felt was like a huge blast into into space but its longer track, slower acceleration and lack of an intimidating theme made it feel null.
It really makes me lucky that I live only 45 mins away from CP, never needed to buy one in my life, would recommend going in early summer or late summer to get the best lines for all the rides. (Can ride millennium, top thrill, etc multiple times in less than an hour)
@@vector9586 I'm 5 hours away in EC Indiana, and I am jealous as hell right now. I already told my kids (17 and 11) that I'm moving as close to Sandusky as possible when they're adults lol. My little girl Berea is already looking up colleges in the area.

I've only been on Dragster once and I got hit by a fly on the way up so I didn't enjoy it much, but recently I went to Great Adventure and got on Kingda Ka 3 times. I enjoyed every second of it.
Everyone makes mistakes. Don't let these reuploads bring you down. Keep your head up, you have almost 200k subscribers for a GOOD reason. We all appreciate your content and your commitment to making everything picture perfect for your audience. This video turned out amazing
I’ve been out to the site of the old Saltair a bunch of times. You can still see the stumps that were driven into the lakebed for the Giant Racer and walk around the footprint.
This was extremely interesting and entertaining. The research and editing prowess on display in this piece are more professional than 95% of what I see on YT. I know your passion is coasters and I don’t know how much of what we see/hear is your own work vs. that of partners, but whatever effects Covid eventually wreaks on park viability worldwide, you have a knack for content and will be able to present for any number of industries. Keep up the good work!
It took me a while to see this comment, but I very much appreciate the kind words. Right now, I do all of the work for my videos (script-writing, editing, and narrating), and it means a lot to me that people appreciate my work the way they do. Thank you so much for the encouragement 🙂.
dragon mountain was 186ft tall in 83 but theres some weird technicalities to that stat so i hope im wrong bc i dont want you to have to re upload again bc youve already done so much work lol. keep up the great work peter
@@ThemeParkCrazy yea thats what ive read as well. i was on it many years ago and its not like theres a drop anywhere near that height so its all bc of terrain
Great video as always! Very interesting and well researched. Small thing, but I appreciate the effort you clearly put in to try and pronounce coaster names from other languages/countries correctly. It adds an extra feeling of quality to the video
Growing up near CP in the 90s/00s was super fun. Even if I've never liked heights, all the hype around the new coasters every year was contagious. Magnum is still one of my favorite rides in the park. Been meaning to go this year, but haven't had the chance to make it yet...
I’m not a big coaster buff but I love Cedar Point. The rides are pretty fun even if you’re not a thrill seeker. The mine ride is a good coaster for starters like myself.
After riding all of the newer ones this last time I went there, I was pleasantly surprised how well Magnum stands up next to the others, still easily one of the best rides there.

Every tall, dangerous coaster: I am the most dangerous coaster ever! Action Park: Alright everybody! We need some plastic bottles and masking tape! We are making another coaster Action Park Employee: We ran out of masking tape though! Action Park. What! How! We had 200 Tonnes of it! Action Park Employee: There was the 9999999999999999999th lawsuit and they took away the masking tape! Action Park: Ok then! Get the emergency Flex Seal! Action Park Employee: We don’t have any! We can’t use it to build a.. safe attraction Action Park: How dare you use those words! GET ME SOME PVA GLUE NOW!
Wonderfully researched video 👍🏼 the first drop on Shockwave was fantastic💙 Vortex had great airtime, and Magnum was very intimidating! Superman Escape From Krypton is still in my top 20 coasters based on just the sheer speed of that backwards launch! Millennium Force blew my socks off 🧦 when I rode it for the first time! 🤯😅 Kingda Ka is my favorite coaster of all time because I can’t get enough of the crazy intense launch into the sky for what feels like forever!
I think the tallest roller coaster I've been on was Nitro at six flags back in like 2005. Also, I got an amazing view because the cars got stuck at the top of the first hill. So I didn't really get to "ride" it the first time, but it certainly was interesting.
The one thing I learned through all your videos with historical backgrounds is that every single amusement park in the US at some point burned to the ground.
Fantastic video (like usual)! That research must have been a lot, but probably fun as well. Coaster history is really interesting ngl. (May I suggest doing one for steepest? I think that would be very interesting as well)
I loved this video. However, I gotta represent for my home park and back it up. If I am not mistaken, Great American Scream Machine opened in 1973 at Six Flags Over Georgia as the tallest, longest, and fastest roller coaster in the world.
Brought someone to cedar point that had been to six flags many times and he actually liked the dragster over kingda ka saying that the dragster was smoother and felt faster for some reason
Looks like everyone’s too afraid to say this, so as a Japanese I’m gonna say this. It takes some f***ing balls to name a roller coaster that’s just 50 miles away from Nagasaki “Atomic.” I honestly think it’s hilarious.
Love your channel man. I'm a coaster lover myself. I was born in Santa Cruz so I grew up riding the giant dipper. I was thinking, if you haven't done it yet. Maybe try the top 10 highest ridership coasters, the top 10 worst coast break downs/accidents, top 10 worst designs, or top 10 oldest coasters in operation.
I was born and raised in NE Ohio and spent my summers going to Cedar Point & Kings Island in the 80’s. I have to say I’m disappointed that you didn’t mention The Gemini coaster built in 78 @ 125’ an awesome wooden racing coaster that still stands.
I always feel sorry for Alton Towers. They aren’t allowed to even try for this record; the height restrictions are just tragic... though I’m more than sure that those same height restrictions are the cause for their other records like most inversions and tallest underground drop.
I used to think the worlds tallest rollercoaster was 100 feet tall. (I was 8). Then I saw boomerang at six flags Saint Louis and I asked my mom and she said “that’s about 100 feet” then my brain went “oh my, it’s the words tallest rollercoaster!” A couple years later and I learn abott ur kingda ka and learn that most coasters today are over 100 feet XD.
I remember the first time I was on the pepsi max in Blackpool,I thought I was going to land in the sea. Crazy to think it's considered small by modern standards. Also on a clear day you can see the pepsi maxs structure from Southport
Hey, great video as always! I bet I'm not the only one of your fans from continental Europe, is there any chance you could include stats in meters (height, length) and kilometers per hour (speed) in your videos? Right now I have to stop the video, go to rcdb and check these stats myself, and it would be far more comfortable to just have it next to feet and miles directly in the video :D Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!
Hey for being there for all coaster fans and for people like who are there between fan fanatic your knowledge of coasters are well needed In our community. Thanks again Chris
Hi, considering there are Roller Coasters enthusiasts watching all over the world, can you consider adding metric system information to your next videos. Its just a quick info that would be useful to the rest of the world.
Goliath is 200 feet tall.... Cedar Point had already made the Magnum XL a decade ago that was taller than that. Millenium Force is 310ft... What are you talking about?
@@ThemeParkCrazy Correct. However, Desperado did outdo PMBO in equalling Steel Phantom's drop record (225ft), so could be considered the Real co-tallest full circuit at that point. Also, important we don't forget Goliath @ SFMM (255ft drop) surpassing Fujiyama (230) three months before opening of MF. Honorary Record Holders. Btw..... OUTSTANDING effort TPC :)
"No manufacturer has ever managed to build higher than Kingda Ka" I think it may be more accurate to replace the word "managed" with "bothered". Eltororyans video on Maverick is a great testament to this
