Unbelievable how a game released in 2012 is still actual, maintained, and extending. I play ETS2 almost every day. Planning to switch to ATS after finishing all achievements. Probably next spring;)
@@SergeMatveenko I remember playing ETS on my laptop in 2010 as my dad is a truck driver ive always been into it. I stopped playing it in 2011 and in 2013 i saw squirrel play ets2 and it got me interested as it looked great, i got my first gaming pc on christmas 2013 and got ets2 and i loved it. Me and my friend used to play online until 4am in the morning every day and always got the dlc's. ETS2 is still currently the game with the most brought dlc's on my steam and will keep growing.
@@thatvirusguy6642 well, my legend is 18 wheels of steel. I don't remember which one, though. It was the game I've bought a wheel controller for. And I was already married back then :)
@@thatvirusguy6642 I also remember watching squirrel play ets2 and I fell in love with the game. 7 years later I got my first PC and it remains my favourite game of all time.
Somehow, the 18 wheels of steel series back then, still have better rain and windscreen interaction even when compared with the actual games (ATS and ETS2) I remember one of them having "veining" effects when it would rain, extremely close to real life... Maybe it was the way I saw it back then. But the current games do lack in that department, as well as season simulation...
@@annahenrietta9517 about that info, we get official information about better effects for fog and heavy rain on SCS blog, because studio have new video library.
@@goralAdrian interesting, maybe next step after this would be winter. Or winter like areas. That would be quite awesome. Officially ofc I know mods exist.
You need to use the secret tunnel... The one that has these weird ghoulish screaming faces as repeating textures. I discovered that tunnel on a rainy IRL night. After taking a wrong turn and accidentally driving into a dead end, those stretched, repeating textures staring back at me... Alt+F4
@@itgamingke - King of the Road is not HT2, it was a separate title, basically a heavily revised HT2, in the same way Mudrunner is a heavily revised Spintires game.
What I loved about this game was the way the weather worked. It didn't do that thing when the skybox would fade into a stormy sky like games usually do nowadays, the clouds would actually move in the sky and you could usually predict the rain several minutes in advance by looking into the sky and seeing a line of dark clouds on the horizon. I don't know if I've ever seen anything like this ever since.
1 Scania Truck Driving Simulator is earlier than Euro Truck Simulator2; 2 Before Scania Truck Driving Simulator, there is another truck simulator: Trucks&trailers. 3 Mudrunner American Wilds is a DLC of Mudrunner, not a new game.
I find it absolutely hilarious that Hard Truck 2 from 20 years ago has a better map and arguably better graphics than the current version of Truck Driver on consoles.
I wish I only lived in US or Europe to drive those trucks. Here truck driving is like fighting a world war. Slow under powered trucks with overload cargo. On roads full of slow pot holes and traffic
Had the first Hard Truck, then 18 WoS PttM. I still play the latter even now, albeit with a lot if mods. Been trying to get Hard Truck working, but even on a couple of old XP laptops I still have, it crashes after just a few minutes.
I played 18 WoS, AA and Extreme up until July 2019, when my wife bought me American Truck Simulator. Being a retired trucker, I really enjoy it. Far less stressful than real life though. Just don't plan on getting the best experience with basic graphics such as Intel 5500.
It’s not all about the graphics though, pulling into Las Vegas with Owner Of a Lonely Heart by Yes blaring out of the radio, I can’t think of many things that make me smile as much as that :) ATS is probably the best game I’ve picked up in recent years
Heck I actually AM a truck driver and I miss playing ATS. I won't ever be able to afford a 300"wb Pete with a straight piped Cat, so the games will be as close as I ever get lol
For me, ATS is the BEST DRIVING game Its relaxing and fun When you have a 30h long delivery, you know you will be hooked up for at least 1.5 HOURS of trucking.. Reaching your destination in time and without damage also feels satisfying
Until they offer so much content and active updates, then yes, but someday these games of SCS will be not actual as well, when there will be a better and new truck simulator. ETS 2 will be the next year 10 years old.
I remember playing Hard Truck 2 as a Teen, I miss the fact that you could get pulled over if you was going to fast or failed to stop at a stop sign, and you had to pay for your repairs to your truck.
UK truck simulator was the very first simulator I have played, remember purchasing it back when it was launched and still have it to this day, but euro truck simulator will still be the one I love most.
The graphics of games before 2005 gives me a old type of feeling like all the games of that time were having sample type of graphics, gameplay and controls. Wheather it be GTA or shooting games like igi, medal of honor and many more
I played Hard Truck King of the road, Hard truck 2... all of the 18 wheels of steel games... Haulin was the most modded and probably the best. I remember getting the first 18 wheels of steel game for Christmas. That was the best Christmas gift a kid could ask for. I remember Rig N Roll... watching trailers and so hyped to play it, but it ended up crappy from my memory. Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator have come along way. I can't wait 25-30 years from now, when I'm retired and have nothing else better to do than play the future of trucking games. I drive a truck in real life too.
@Matthew R. Mendez You can look up Squirrel's interview with Pavel Sebor, CEO of SCS, (there are 2 interviews and I don't remember in which one) and he explains their struggles as a company and how they became what they are today.
I used to play 18 Wheels of Steel Pedal to the Metal so much lol. As soon as I got 10 million dollars in my in-game bank account, the game started lagging a lot and I haven't really played it that much after that anymore.
I'm 50 y/o and grew up with all those games, I play ETS2 and ATS to mention only sim ones and the jumps in graphic and gameplay we can see in just a few years gaps is astonishing ( I just hope I live long enough to see a few more of those tech jumps in games )
In my opinion, out of all the games on this list (that I've played), ETS2 and ATS are by far the best as far as immersion and game mechanics go. However, I think a few of the earlier games were still pretty good for their time, and paved the way for ETS2, etc. Also, Spintires and its similar titles were a fresh addition to the simulation/driving genres for sure.
Hard truck 2 had Load Thefts, Black market trucks, Illegal Gasoline refuels, Hidden Cargoes, Contraband Cargoes, Actual police chases, helicopter chases (with guns). Cops would shoot at your truck. Gas tanks could.explode by being shot or damaged to anthreshhold, gasoline trailers could explode, you could arrange deals.over the CB with rhe mafia or truckers, your trucks could get impounded. You could buy civilian vehicles to freeroam after you hired abunch of drivers to work for you. This game is from 1998
My journey begins with ETS 2 then tried ATS and went back to ETS 2 instantly Later I found spintires then tried snowrunner lately and sticking with it for now When I play on Xbox gamepass it's snowrunner, forza when I'm on PC it's ETS2 for my go now
it should be noted that Euro Truck Sim 2 is still in heavy active developement, in the past few years its switched to DX11, new lighting system, new audio engine (the excellent fmod) and countless map expansions, and added trucks
Same goes for American Truck Simulator, Texas and Montana are currently under development (and the graphics have significantly improved since 2016 too)
My first truck game ever in the early 2000's was King of the Road. I remember, i bought it from the 10€ as a child, that i found once on the floor in the streets. I found the game in a little office-article shop, before i didn't know what to do with that money.
Mine was either Crosscountry 2 or Hard Truck, I forget which I got first. Remember being really disappointed with Crosscountry 2 though as you don't really get to drive the truck, just manage the navigation/logistics of it. Been trying to get Hard Truck working again for years, it just doesn't want to run on anything! Even on the couple old XP laptops I have it crashes almost imedietly.
finally i found the name of the game! i played 18 wheels of steel: extreme trucker when i was kid. now i know what to re-install. thx for uploading this!
Nice informative video - didn't know about some of those. One suggestion I have is - maybe add the developer / producer name and maybe leave all that information on the screen while showing the game (like the credit to the video maker) it is nice to havethat information to see how different developers progressed (or only changed the map in) their game
I grew up on Hard Truck. At some point I found a green van for sale and 5 year old me said "OH BOY!" and sold my semi for a minivan. Drove around a lot but never really new what to do in the game. Just fuel up when needed. Don't think I ever took a real load. Would always get the cops on me and they'd shot at me and pop the tires.
i played: 18 wheels of steel: American Long Haul (i love this game) 18 wheels of steel: Haulin (first i thinked about as a DLC for ALH,but later i discovered it came earlier) 18 wheels of steel: Extreme Trucker: a very good game, but too hard for a dumb kid of early 2010's 18 wheels of steel: Extreme Trucker 2: same 18 wheels of steel: Pedal To The Metal: only a few minutes Euro Truck Simulator: The first and unique game my father buyed for me in 16 years of life Euro Truck Simulator 2: i love this game with my heart and soul(especially with mods, a lot of mods like EAA or TSM or even trying to play a Bus Simulator instead a truck simulator) Scania Truck Driving Simulator: Played it a lot, especially the harder levels like one where you must drive at a mountainside or flooded streets Forklift Truck Simulator: i dont know why i played this game, but its a good one for what it does Rig n' Roll: very good game like 18 Wheels ALH Uk Truck Simulator: only the demo, which my sister downloaded it for me German Truck Simulator: I Love This Game, played it a lot with ETS Austrian Truck Simulator: i thinked it was dlc of German Truck Simulator or something like that before learning WWI,where i learned Germany is different of Austria i tried to play some others or watched them in youtube: Spin Tires Snowrunner 18 wheels of steel: Convoy Street Cleaning Simulator: i downloaded it five years ago, but my pc was too weak for it Tow Truck Simulator: i watched it a lot Garbage Truck Simulator: same Snowrunner: i watched it recently and it is a good game. Truck Lover here maybe...
All the 18 Wheels of Steel games were literally my childhood I grew up playing those games, they were so amazing, seeing them on here brings back so much nostalgia
Progressively getting better, then BAM. WAR TRUCK SIMULATOR. Truck handles like a F1 race car on the most unforgiving terrain imaginable. Then stops on a dime for boots.
gosh I still remmber playing both Extreme Trucker games and probably still have the disks flopping around somewhere. Pure nostalgia. But ETS2 is still king!
I personally believe 18 WOS Petal to the metal will always be my favorite but I do believe that Rig n Roll had so much potential but the developers just gave up on fixing the game and finishing it up so they released it anyways which in result was a very laggy glitching game.. it was fun but always had problems.
I still play Pedal to the Metal to this day! Modded it to hell though: Soccer Studios huge USA map, a few custom trucks, and a total rebalancing of the stock game stats I did myself - no longer do 95% of the transmissions red-line at just 55mph! Sad a lot of the websites that hosted mods for it back in the day are gone now.
There was Trucks and Trailers game by SCS Software, which was released in 2010, but it wasn't a Truck Simulator at all, it was a streak of challenges. Also I don't remember Austrian Truck Simulator, but I remember that there was an expanded version of German Truck Simulator that included Innsbruck, Vienna, Linz and Salzburg.
1:53 Oh my god, we used to play this one in my computer class in 5th grade, my teacher always made us try and get the highest score or something. (if it even has a score system...) I've been looking for this for years! Wish I could play it again...
1:45 can’t believe that at the same time 18 wheel was already out, the next game you see in the timeline was that obsolete already, and by the way in Italy those game were sold, you could buy them at the mall but almost nobody did, I was only 10 at the time I asked my father but he looked at the minimum requirements of the pc and he didn’t even bother to buy it xD you needed what nowdays we call a “gaming pc” and we couldn’t afford it....so the max open world I plaid in 2002 and also passed some decent time with it was driver 2 for ps1...
You missed one title - "On The Road" from 2019. And Scania Driving Simulator was, could say as an introduction\tutorial for Euro Truck Simulator 2. So it should be shown chronologically beforehand. Overall a nice video.:)
