The funny part is, he knows exactly why he gets discredited. Until he does something to reshape our perspectives outside of his run with the Warriors, which was cardinal sin and pure cowardice, he’ll never get that respect. He doesn’t deserve it. At this point, he’s just lying to himself

I use to like KD. I dont anymore. Doesnt mean i dont respect or acknowledge what he is as an athlete. He just carried himself with a different energy when he was in OKC. Now he seems bitter or maybe fed up i guess...Or hell maybe this is who he was all along, and was just fooling us in OKC. Hes definitely one of the greatest and efficient scorers of all time. Now i don't know about greatest player all time list since we all cant make up our mind about what that entails....

Nah he’s more respected than Kawhi and deservedly so. Nobody has Kawhi even top 20, Durant is at least at the tail end of top 10. Kawhi was never as dominant or unstoppable as KD was at his peak. Plus Kawhi peak was like 1-2 years. Durant had real peak.

Plus he has several reasons his ring is not impactful as Giannis, Jokic, Dirk, and Hakeem. He was undeniably on a stacked team, probably one of 2-3 greatest team of all time. Also, he was arguably not the most important player on the team with Steph being the core of the system. At the least, Warrior was not his team, Steph was the core and the engine, and Draymond was the soul of the team. I would say he has absolutely 0 argument over Hakeem.

Outside of Golden State, he had mostly failures in the playoffs before and after he joined the Warriors. In 2022, they won the chip and media was all on his case about Stephen Curry was better than him. He thinks he should be in the G.O.A.T conservation because he was on the Warriors and won two championships there. It doesn't mean nothing to us, you have to lead your OWN team to success and not join good contenders.

in a way he is right and wrong . The OKC losing from the Warriors in the conference finals was the deciding point. i trully believe OKC was the best team this year in the NBA but after going 3-1 they definetely choked and lost. And I believe if Durant stayed and had the different mindset of getting back to the Warriors next year , we would have a totally different conversation. As a pure talent he is 100% in that category at least until he got injured. But after that it kinda fell apart (enen though he had 2 of his best seasons after)

Until we back up a bit, and realize that teams would just leave KD open because Steph was on the floor. They'd rather run out to guard Steph's 3, than guard KD going for a layup. That's what we're talking about here.

KD was never just left open. It’s the first time in his career he had shooting around him and space to operate one on one. You could no longer load up the floor to stop him because he was no longer in OKC playing with 3 nonshooters at once… KD wasn’t just left open at all; he was allowed to play one on one against his defender because the defense actually had to guard the other shooters and of course he cooked his defender relentlessly. You couldn’t just leave guys like Westbrook, Roberson, and collison/Perkins open like in OKC to focus on KD.

In GOAT conversations, the way you win your rings matter. Thats why MJ is still on top. Its a cinderella story of a career. Came in great, encountered some adversary, stuck it out and won a lot. KD is an incredible player. We can all agree on that. But the way he handled the OKC/Russ situation will forever overshadow everything. Had he gone ANYWHERE else, his situation might have been different. However, part of his storyline was in the way he was carrying a small market team into international spotlight. OKC was the underdog and KD/Russ were the heroes. If you look at Russ, he’s still beloved by the community. He gets a standing ovation every time he plays in OKC. His first time back, the fans chanted MVP at him. That’s wild when you think about the fact that an entire arena is chanting that at a player NOT on their team. KD will never get that respect.

Hakeem Olajawon is tier 2, arguably tier 1 as a player if you ask me. He absolutely dominated at center and effected all parts of the game with physicality, skill set and a high IQ understanding of the game. Go watch what MJ had to say about facing the Dream who he referred to with reverence and respect as "The big African"

To be on that tier 1 list, you need to have a great career narrative overall, not just skill wise. Hakeem as great as he is, isnt as decorated as those other guys. I would argue duncan has a better case of being in tier 1.

@@docmalice This thought process is what ruins the conversation today and makes basketball seem as if it isn't a team sport where championships are won because of one guy. All of those teams in tier 1 had multiple hall of famers on them. The context of team and organization as a whole when it existed and who the coach was at the time are overlooked when you rank a player's career in that way. What I'm saying is if you were to replace any of those guys with Hakeem he would have won the same number of championships, if not more in certain cases

What did Olajuwon do with the teammates he had? He had only role players in the ‘94 championship team. LeBron needed super teams to win rings. As far as MVPs, he had to beat Jordan, are you kidding? The ‘90s was far more competitive and difficult to win than any decade. If the Dream had two prime all-star teammates he would have won more than 2. Instead he had Clyde briefly who wasn’t elite anymore. All this career narrative is BS because it doesn’t look at the context. Olajuwon was a more complete player than Bill Russell, for example. I would pick the Dream over Russell as my starting center any day.

He just make the same mistake, that make LeBron. Both think, that they can go on other team and make supersquad without a negative reaction of social media. Durant make a soft man move when joined GSW. He go on the team that beat OKC after 3-1 lead. For him it's just a new team and better chance. For other people - it been like a convention - ''We have no chance against GSW'. im done', week man move. What's he expected after that? He's win a 2 ring's with a legendary squad. Already established squad. And still left team after that. Lebron at least create a new juggernaut in Miami, not join the contender, but created the contender. After GSW Durex always try to join a superteam with 3 All-Stars members. Everybody try to do that, you don't earn the respect that way. Dirk championship in 2011 always been more respectful, cause he's stick to his team through the failure and many years without any success. One's he's been MVP, one he's been in Final. But 10 more years he has none success. Matter the fact, after 2011 Dallas has no success, but Dirk still stick to his team. KD in the same situations act different - stick to no one, goes on other squads. He's a unique player. But he's not a leader. Never has been. Never will be. Nobody respect a coward's move. And more important - he know and understand, why people discredit his chapm's and career. He knows. And that eats his soul.

I don’t consider KD in the top 15 discussion. Please give me a break. If he didn’t go to GSW, he wouldn’t even be a top 25. I’ve watched ball for 45 years and know basketball history well. KD suggesting he belongs in the top 10 discussion is ridiculous. KD has had great teammates throughout his career but he never was a great leader or carried his team. Take Olajuwon, he carried his ‘94 team to a ring. His teammates were all role players. Olajuwon was elite at both ends. He carried his team in ‘95 too. And he did much more with much less. In my opinion, KD is Tier 4, he isn’t in the same tier with Olajuwon. That means KD is ranked about 18-22. Overall I think even Jokic is a better player than KD too.

I agree.. I'd rank KD next to Hakeem, they both have 2 rings. I'd give him the nod over Karl Malone. Remember... Shaq was the Second best player in the 06 Heat. D Wade was clearly the better player at that point, won Finals MVP, and Shaq didn't have a dominant performance.
