On the night of February 8, 2015, the LDS church held a disciplinary court against John Dehlin. John is the founder of the Mormon Stories podcast and outspoken advocate for gay rights, same sex marriage, and the LDS ordain women movement. While the court was in session, a group of friends, supporters, and media gathered outside to await the decision. This video shows how the work that John has done over the years has touched the lives of so many.

The internet is the worst thing that ever happened to the Mormon Church as people can now learn the oddities and intolerant nature of the faith.

Greg Hurley I love the internet so I can learn alot about what you anti-mormons are saying. It is actually the best thing that ever happened and it will accelerate convert baptisms.

Robert Wallace I'd be interested to hear how those have helped your faith. How have they helped you? By the way, if those are actual historical events then I think we can stop calling it anti-mormon, right? I mean can facts be anti-mormon? I'm just trying to have a civil conversation. Sometimes its hard to decipher attitude in text.

Actually, you confuse your perversion of the truth, your "half-truth" as being the same as the "truth".... in contrast to the Church, the Gospel of Christ which actually IS about the truth, the whole and entire truth, minus perversion and falsehood.
@isthechurchtrue

leeuniverse Would you please explain why Joseph Smith married 10 woman who were already married to living husbands? No Mormon has ever explained that to me. If the purpose of polygamy was to have more children then that would not explain why Joseph married these woman. A woman with 2 husbands can't have more children than a woman with just 1. Also it is clearly adultery by any Christian standard.

leeuniverse "Perversion of truth . . ." That is a Mormon's trained response to any attack on the LDS faith. You can’t see it from where you are, but the church prepares and teaches you that response (starting in Primary). It becomes automatic and you draw that conclusion before examining any evidence. Not your fault, but certainly occluded. Open your Book of Abraham to Facsimile #3 and count the number of female characters depicted. See them? There are two. Now compare that to the captions that Joseph wrote for these characters. Question: Why would Abraham draw the two most powerful men in the world as short, curvy, long-haired, small-footed females? Why would he write "Isis" and "Maat" above their heads? Why would Abraham be wearing a hat that distinctly belongs to Osiris? It is not a perversion of truth to draw the conclusion that this image has nothing to do with Abraham. Truth is singular. In this case, the truth is that this image belongs to Egyptian mythology and is quite appropriate to be found with a mummy. Unfortunately, this actual truth opposes Mormonism. For you to hold to the belief that this is something it is not is a perversion of truth. It is a willful dissociation from truth. The truth is not on your side, so you ignore it. . . . and then accuse anti-mormons of perverting truth. Wow!

John his beautiful wife were my and still are my life raft. Looking at Margie in this video hurts me she looks so thin and frail, stress does that to you. As John is giving his speech I keep watching a man in the back ground inside that keeps walking back and forth in a hallway that at one time felt like home for the Dehlins. My journey began three years ago. Strange things were happening in my life every which way I turned I was close to suicide. I fond Mormon Stories by accident. I had no idea what mobbing and shunning were all about I had no friends or family to ask. John's excommunication was the first I found so I suppose there can be comfort in someone else's misery. He is not aware but he saved my life. I'm so grateful for all the others that had the courage to stand and tell their stories another reason I'm here today. Your closing words were heartfelt and beautiful. I thank you all.

By excommunicating John Dehlin, what the LDS church is saying is that it does not want members who are seekers of truth. It wants members who will not dig too deeply into the 'negative' side of the truth, but who will only look at the 'positive' 'faith-promoting' aspects. In other words, those who are willing to be deluded. Truth will withstand scrutiny.
@terrytippets7023

deskjockie49 *By excommunicating John Dehlin, what the LDS church is saying is that it does not want members who are seekers of truth.* That's baloney. Dehlin is better off outside of the churh. There are certain things the church is not going to bend on. Women in the priesthood is one, and having practicing gays as members is another.
@deskjockie4948
@deskjockie4948 9 лет назад
Terry Tippets I agree with you that John Dehlin is better off outside the church. He now has an even better opportunity to be guided by love instead of a restrictive mindset. As far as "there are certain things the church is not going to bend on...", I wouldn't be too sure about that. There was a time when the church was "not going to bend" on giving up polygamy, or blacks holding the priesthood.
@terrytippets7023
@terrytippets7023 9 лет назад
deskjockie49 Polygamy was only temprary. And blacks holding the priesthood was just waiting on a revelation. I know you don't believe it, but that was the mindset of LDS for years. We knew that at some point, blacks woud receive the priesthood. The same feeling does not apply to women getting the priesthood (the majority of LDS women are against it, actually), or having practicing gays in the church. Have a good one!
@deskjockie4948
@deskjockie4948 9 лет назад
Terry Tippets "Polygamy was only temporary" you say? Listen to your prophets' words: -"The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy. Others attain unto a glory and may even be permitted to come into the presence of the Father and the Son; but they cannot reign as kings in glory, because they had blessings offered unto them, and they refused to accept them." The Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol 11, p. 269 -"Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives, and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 266). -"Some people have supposed that the doctrine of plural marriage was a sort of superfluity or non-essential to the salvation or exaltation of mankind. In other words, some of the Saints have said, and believe, that a man with one wife, sealed to him by authority of the Priesthood for time and eternity, will receive an exaltation as great and glorious, if he is faithful, as he possibly could with more than one. I wish here, to enter my solemn protest against this idea, for I know it to be false. The marriage of one woman to a man for time and eternity by the sealing power, according to the law of God, is a fulfillment of the celestial law of marriage IN PART --and is good so far as it goes--and so far as a man abides these conditions of the law, he will receive his reward therefore, and this reward, or blessing, he could not obtain on any other grounds or conditions. But this is only the beginning of the law, not the whole of it. Therefore, whoever has imagined that he could obtain a fulness of the blessings pertaining to the celestial law, by complying with only a portion of its conditions, has deceived himself. He cannot do it. He cannot receive the fulness of the blessings unless he fulfills the law, any more than he can claim the gift of the Holy Ghost after he is baptized without the laying on of hands by proper authority, or the remission of sins without baptism, though he may repent in sackcloth and ashes." "I understand the law of celestial marriage to mean that every man in the Church who has the ability to obey and practice it in righteousness and will not, shall be damned. I say I understand it to mean this and nothing less, and I testify, in the name of Jesus that it does mean that." - The Prophet Joseph F. Smith, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 20, pp. 28, 30, 31 - "Nevertheless, I the Lord do not change, and my covenants and my law do not. And as I have heretofore said by my servant Joseph, All those who would enter into my glory must and shall obey my law, and have I not commanded men that if they were Abraham's seed, and would enter into my glory, they must do the works of Abraham. I have not revoked this law, nor will I, for it is everlasting, and those who enter into my glory must obey the conditions thereof, even so, Amen." The Prophet John Taylor, Revelation of Sept. 26 1886 Where does this say that polygamy was "only temporary"? "And blacks holding the priesthood was just waiting on a revelation. I know you don't believe it, but that was the mindset of LDS for years. We knew that at some point, blacks would receive the priesthood" you say. As to blacks getting the priesthood, listen again: "How long is that race to endure the dreadful curse that is upon them? That curse will remain upon them, and they never can hold the Priesthood or share in it until all the other descendants of Adam have received the promises and enjoyed the blessings of the Priesthood and the keys thereof. Until the last ones of the residue of Adam's children are brought up to that favourable position, the children of Cain cannot receive the first ordinances of the Priesthood. They were the first that were cursed, and they will be the last from whom the curse will be removed. When the residue of the family of Adam come up and receive their blessings, then the curse will be removed from the seed of Cain, and they will receive blessings in like proportion. - (Journal of Discourses 7:290-291, October 9, 1859) THIS was the position of the church for over a hundred years on blacks getting the priesthood So, has the point been reached when "the last residue of the family of Adam's children...(has) come up and receive(d) the blessings of the priesthood" in order to remove the 'curse' from the 'seed of Cain'?

deskjockie49 All well and good, dude, except that polygamy is only a doctrine of the church when the Lord commands polygamy. He's not commanding it today. The Journal of Discourses is not official doctrine of the church. Never has been and never will be. Brigham Young was expressing an opinion, which he had every right to do. *"THIS was the position of the church for over a hundred years on blacks getting the priesthood "* Actually, it ws the postion of Brigham Young. You're trying to debate LDS doctrine when you don't even know what it is, dude. That puts you dead in the water before you even begin. Educate yourself: www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/approaching-mormon-doctrine The above link explains what LDS doctrine is, and what it takes for something to become doctrine. Have a good one!

This was a wonderful video! In my roaming around through various people's stories, and especially in this video, I'm seeing that the kind of fellow Mormon I've always connected with the best are the kind of people who are now leaving the Church, for many of the same reasons that I will be leaving. One thing I haven't heard discussed by anyone, though, is the pedophilia issue. I'm specifically referring to the Mickleson case, as discussed by Ron Karran in his RU-vid video (you can find it by doing a search for his channel). It was kind of the final straw for me. Also, Lynn Kenneth Packer has done a great job of documenting when Church leaders began hiding the truth about certain historical events in the Church. He also has a RU-vid channel. I don't remember specifically where it is but there's a scripture that speaks of all things that were hidden shall be hidden no more in the very last days. Disclosure seems to happening everywhere these days. I'm happy seeing real truth come to light but at the same time, I'm well aware of the difficulties these disclosures and discoveries can cause for people. I send love, light, peace and big hearty hugs to anyone else going thru this crisis of faith. Thank you for your channel, FlackerMan, and for your sensitive coverage of these issues.

They excommunicated a member because he is an imperfect good decent human being. The Mormon church , or LDS church, prefer certain types and expect them to strive for perfection in this mortal realm. I seem to get a lot negative comments from deadbeats, malcontents, idiots who have limited intelligence too. They have no idea that I am a middle aged man. I have been called an asshole even by relatives and strangers but never a whore. It just shows that there are many people who have closed minds and are unable to express themselves in a clear and positive manner.

NaDopros"nor will they tolerate gay activists" There are many members in the church that do support gay marriage, and the church does not discipline them. Quit lying. It seems your anti-mormon views are based on the church's stance on gay marriage, a lifestyle that robs children of the right/blessing to have a father or a mother because their artificial parents are of the same sex. I'm personally saddened to see John give up his church membership. We are all free, to act and associate with whom or what institution as we choose, but if I don't believe in the atonement of Jesus Christ, or His teachings regarding moral living that requires chastity in all it's forms, or doubt the veracity of the Book of Mormon, then I should have voluntarily left and started my own religion espousing teachings to which I would feel committed. In effect, John has started his own movement whether he acknowledges it or not, and represents a movement of latter-day saints who are as free to leave their covenants in the LDS church with the Lord as much as they were able to make them. John is FREE to comeback if he CHOOSES. John is FREE to associate himself with church activities where membership does not require certain participation. John is FREE to continue his friendships with active members in a church building where it does not require church membership IF HE CHOOSES. I KNOW that there is a singular TRUTH in this universe, the universe testifies of itself and of the Almighty CREATOR, the FULLNESS of truth exists in the Church of Jesus Christ, there is no other philosophy or religion with complete spiritual or religious truth that can bring ALL humankind to salvation and back into the presence of almighty Elohim and our Savior, our dearest brother, Jesus the Anointed One. I feel for those who suffer this dilemma in their lives, I cannot imagine the potential for a spiritual vacuum, or if there are claims of personal happiness, the challenge one must face to leave what they may have once known to be true, but we are blessed with the light, truth and happiness we are qualified to attain in this life, and no more based on our CHOICE. This is mercy by a loving God and Father who allows this to be for a glorious and wise purpose, and I not only would give my life to defend what I KNOW to be true, but LIVE for what I know to be true as best as I can. I have been down a similar road as John, but understand that HUMILITY is CRITICAL to understanding the word of God, humility, humility, humility. There is no philosophical justification, amount of UNJUSTIFIED LOVE, or ignorance of GOD's commandments and plan that can change one elemental law of God and cause Him to bend. Neither can dissent or personal rebellion cause His servants and prophets since the beginning of time to bend or deviate from the will of the Lord.

I grew up as a Catholic in Mormon Utah and I commend Mormons for putting their angst and mental anguish on public view. Every religion has an orthodoxy to be adhered to as dictated by the priesthood in charge. But in the end if one becomes alienated from his or her church the only solution is to go find another or, as Joseph Smith or Martin Luther did, start a new one. Demanding that an entrenched priesthood living off the spoils change its ways is like tilting at windmills. Easier to just launch a new offshoot LDS church incorporating the liberation that feels more comfortable and real and transcending to the protesting rebels. Protestants and Catholics are often flowing into and out of various denominations as they progress through life..the observation I made when visiting several different churches the past two years.

What is interesting is that LDS females used to perform blessings (mainly blessing the sick). You can actually find this in one of the church's current essays. Many members don't know about this. Not something you're taught in Sunday School. I bring this up because this is just one of the numerous things they don't want you to know. Church history is a mess at best! Why were we not taught these things in our youth? Sure we all knew that Brigham Young had many wives but not many knew that Joseph Smith had many wives!

I struggled a bit with some church doctrine, especially church history. Then one day, I thought, if I have felt the Holy Ghost so strongly, and have seen miracles performed through the authority of the priesthood, then how could Joseph Smith and other early leaders be wrong? If Joseph Smith was a fraud, how is it possible that the priesthood he supposedly restored has wrought miracles? Miracles that I've seen with my own eyes. After I asked myself such questions, I told myself, it is right to stick with Zion. I will always stay with the church, rather than stick with self-righteous ex-Mormons who claim to be open and honest, ignoring the fact the many faithful members are also open and honest. Such hypocrisy on the part of ex-Mormons.

The priesthood is not of set of skills, it's the power and authority of God that he gives as a blessing to the faithful. "I have been told dark side can do same healing". Nice! Have you also been told that Satan cannot cast out Satan? Devils have been cast out by priesthood holders of our church. So, remember, Jesus said Satan cannot cast out Satan. Hence, your argument goes down the drain. You do not know that due to such miracles, many people in Samoa and other countries have converted to the faith. Yet, the church is generally quiet about it; unlike, other denominations that claim to perform miracles through the media, whose ministers come to Samoa, attempts/acts to perform a miracle, then takes off in a private jet, leaving an ailing individual in the same sickly condition and scrambling to get his money back. If Joseph Smith was a false prophet, and was wrong about practicing polygamy, surely, the priesthood he claimed to have restored through angelic administration cannot perform miracles; and that is one of my strongest points/reasons why I know that people like you are dead wrong.

My point is there is no authority. There is no Religious group! I have learned online that Lucifers power yes this is what LDS are doing! Watch Endowment Ceremony online YT Lucifer tells people to put on his apron represents his power and his priesthood. Can you explain this? Have you ever witnessed same miracles talked about in Bible? Spliting Red Sea. Making blind vision work again with laying of hands. Make cripple person start walking again. LDS are brainwashed I know they think there is some power but truth is witch craft occult stuff there doing. They do not have special powers LOL that is just crazy.

Mormonism says there are many Gods and that you can become one, they say Jesus and satan are brothers, they say Jesus did NOT make atonement on the cross. They say God the father was once a MAN who had to EARN His way to become a God. They say you must learn secret handshakes and passwords and wear special underwear in order to live with God the father when you die. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that all human beings, male and female, are beloved spirit children of heavenly parents, a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother. In no way can mormonism be classed as "Christian"

If a lot of Muslims immigrated to this country many would want sharia law, under which public criticism of their religion would become a "hate crime". Watching this video, I wouldn't be surprised if Mormon Church leaders would like the same thing and together with Muslims could become a powerful force against free speech and the press. It's already illegal to speak or write against Islam in Canada.

Okay if the church accepts or adopts and allows those that practice whatever they want, what then makes the church of God [of Jesus Christ] any different from the other churches of the world? Think about it the bible is YOUR example, why do you people openly fight and turn your eyes from the truth in them? Allow me to post something everyone should be familar with >> (New Testament | 1 Timothy 4:1) NOW the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils......We are not obedient because we are blind, we are obedient because we can see and the truth shall set you free? I don't understand the Ordain Women movement. Why would women want to stay in a Church that isn't even true and have a power that doesn't even exist (priesthood) ? Like, if they believe that power is true, it's because the Church is true and if it's true, then they should believe that Priesthood is only for men. It all just doesn't make sense to me. The Church is just this big corporation/club, in the end, it had its rules and if they don't work for you, just get out! I sure did and never been happier.

Members should not leave the church. They should change it. People need community. They need each other. The bronze age myths of the past need to be quietly brushed aside. The LDS church may have been based upon new myths created by Joesph Smith Jr., but all religions are based upon myths. He just added a layer. The teachings may be false, but the people are good people. Perhaps one day, all people will gather and continue being close to one another. Hopefully, without the Middle-Eastern superstitions to impair their thinking.

I tried that approach for about 18 months. In my experience, the church leadership and culture does not want to make room for non-correlated members who are vocal about their positions and the problems with the correlated doctrines being taught in the church. They basically pushed me out the doors by making me unwelcome.

He got excommunicated because he was advocating different doctrine from the church, I don't see the problem with the church excommunicating people like that, on the other hand, the fact that he got excommunicated does not mean he is excluded from God's grace and salvation. Mormonism like all other religions is just another brand of religion, God is independent from these institutions, he operates within and without churches. The Book of Mormon itself contains several examples of God calling Prophets and people outside religious organizations. Lehi; Nephi: Abinadi: Samuel Lamanite to name a few, were among those who were cast out from their religions and communities and yet were called as God's messengers, I don't see why God wouldn't do the same in our time since the LDS church is pretty void of any revelations, visions, prophecies and other spiritual gifts, which after all were supposed to be a sign of true followers of God.

+Roberto S. I don't think that John ever called for the church to change it's doctrine. He did argue for the church to make room for those who are not orthodox and for policy changes. But, those are different things all together and are not worthy of being excommunicated. IMO, he became too big for the church to ignore, and a lot of people were (and still are) listening to him. He was leading people out of the church by validating their concerns and problems that they had with the church. The church either needs to prune these type of people (which they are doing) or make room for unorthodox believers.

+Roberto S. What your saying is not true. John was not advocating any alternative religious doctrines or teaching a different religion. He is a critic of the L.D.S. Church, not a religious teacher. This is simply the church trying to silence and discredit one of its critics who had the courage to publicly question the foundational claims of Mormonism.

I've watched as John, since his excommunication, goes in and out of being bitter and being conciliatory. I wish he'd simply remain on the bitter side. Here is at least one reason why: I know everyone says ad hominem attacks are always bad. I disagree. I am a mathematician and a scientist. I know intimately the perils the world is facing right now. There is no time to play around with people's feelings. The world is careening toward catastrophic, possibly irrecuperable failure very, very, very, very soon. This is not hyperbole. I studied global warming extremely, extremely, extremely thoroughly 1996-1998 at the behest of the remedial math community college students I was teaching part-time. I doubted global warming because I believed it could fit within the parameters of normal climate fluctuations. So I studied it with statistical precision under the assumption that it was not happening and was not out of the norm. To my shock, even for the period I studied, 1981-1995, global warming was real and was startling and was almost assuredly not within the norms of climate fluctuations. I then looked at the models that were available at the time. The WORST-CASE models are the ones that are NOW occurring. We don't have time to play around with people's feelings. I know this is a Mormon forum. But it applies here as well. I have found that severe, heated, very pointed ad hominem attacks on those destroying the world, like the science-deniers in the GOP and in the Mormon church, are very, very, very, very useful. When you express extreme hatred of their behaviors, it awakens THEIR CHILDREN and GRANDCHILDREN. To hell with the current purveyors of this. If you think COVID-19 was bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Global warming is HERE and is going to kill us all SOON. If you are a teenager TODAY, it is highly likely the world will not be around for your great-grandchildren. Almost ALL younger generation people are aware of these things at least to the point of worrying about it. If you viciously attack those who are killing us all, it WILL serve as a landing place for their "woke" children and grandchildren to land. The Momon church had its chance with a scientist/doctor at the head who did virtually NOTHING to mitigate either COVID or global warming. These people must be called EVIL. No pussy-footing around. There's no time. I have personally found that kind discussions for decades with my anti-science still Mormon family has done NOTHING. They still support the GOP. They still deny science. They still refuse to wear masks. But when I openly cussed and called them all out and told my vitriolic hatred for their behaviors and its destruction of the world, many of THEIR grandchildren now secretly contact me to gain support for eventually leaving their Mormon families as they become part of the real world. There's no time. Ad hominem is all that's left. If some of them "repent", they'll change sides. But I don't care if I hurt their feelings in the meantime. Their feelings don't matter any more.

`Morman people go through the years with blinders on, given to them from the Morman Church and the Doctrines that they teach. You would think anyone in their right mind would study the beginnings and history of the church, starting with their elaborate Prophet Joseph Smith and who he was and what he did. Just that would steer the sanest person away. You can clearly see that the church has written things to keep up with the Book of Morman, and ultimate crime was to rewrite the bible to correspond to the BOM. The Bible has been proven valid for a few thousand years, where the BOM, since Joseph and his friends thought it up. It was an extension of Millerite Ideals. The hisory is the proof against Mormanism, not the proof for it. Wake up Mormans and come to the true Christ!

The whole thing looks like a hypocritical mess on both sides. A religion is a religious set of beliefs. Either get in the boat or get out of it and find something else. Why try to change the religion? I'm not Mormon, I'm not Catholic, Jewish, or Hindu, etc..Why? Because I don't agree with them. Why would I go in and try to change them and what they believe to suit my needs. The whole argument of changing others to suit yourself, defeats the whole purpose of what one is trying to change.

The issue with being free...and free speech..it must come with a lot of responsibility....and that includes even advocating... So am I worried about excommunication...NO..I'm worried that now free speech might be irresponsible.... So, yes everyone can contribute but often unless we are professionally trained then being perhaps very open in a free society that is perhaps conservative and family oriented may not be the best idea at responsibility...or it can be... Is excommunication the best idea no....but training in what being responsible and what responsible free speech means is perhaps the best clue....and always the only idea. Being too different is also not the best idea...unless you're in the media...and hopefully its fictional and a show that is responsible.....why..a subgroup or minority group still must be part as much as possible or the mainstream larger group because it must work together to create a responsible and large society...that is mutually cohesive and coexistant inspite of differences and diversity and divergent beliefs. whats the point...divergent beliefs is irony, satire and and endless resource and infinite resource of entertainment....so agreeing at everything we don't necessarily do or we lose media and entertainment etc...the church too must understand that. What was Elizabeth Taylor doing....representing a role of queen...think about it...she's had 12 plus husbands....and didn't have the best reputation...or did at first. How much makeup did she wear....and for how many hours...that was not a woman with reputation...only because she work such bright makeup....

My thought is that this issue won't be resolved till the Final Battle. Perhaps the church was not meant to be a LGBTQ refuge. I see it as a pathway to Heavenly Father and to come unto Christ. Excommunication is perhaps the way to keep that way open to others. I believe that the church should allow me to be straight and to do what I believe is correct. Right now there is turmoil, but I will hold onto the Iron Rod. Really? What's more important about the mission of the church? I wish you best. Go in peace.

The church is BASED on questioning and asking. That is exactly what the missionaries tell you from the beginning. It's sad to see members attack or look down on those who leave the church as if they were rebelling traitors. I respect those who have left the church if they have truly felt the spirit lead them there. God is loving and as long as our hearts are turned to him and we strive to do his will I think we will be blessed. More respect and love is needed from both sides.

John Dehlin has clearly stated that he no longer believes in the central tenets of the Mormon church. He needs to grow up and move on. Moreover, he advocates for the notion that we are nothing more than a the product of random gene copying errors, which flies in the face of the idea that we are purposely created in the image of our Creator. I cannot recall the last time John talked about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. As time goes on he sounds increasingly like an atheist. Just move on, John. The problems with LDS doctrine are very real and, more painfully, the top 15 are completely silent about these very large problems. John is a stalwart, stand-up guy. He put himself out there and asked the tough questions. I don’t know him personally, but I believe he is a person anyone would be happy to know. This is just flat rotten. I hope it blows up in the 15’s face. Just like the Catholic dogma of Galileo’s day, they just insist that they are right and refuse to look at any evidence contrary to their dogma. Makes me sick that they would do this to John.

firecloud77 John likes the lifestyle and is trying to start a movement where LDS members can speak their mind about their doubts to others and feel safe about it. So far the LDS church will excommunicate you if you do. If the LDS church really loved and care for you, they would try to understand your point-of-view, not try to kick you out for being honest about your feelings. Well, I should say being publicly honest with your feelings. They don't care if you keep it to yourself. Another thing the LDS church will excommunicate you for is telling truths that hurt their faith. If they think it's not faith promoting what you said, even if it's true, they'll axe you. Oh, and another thing John did was help keep people in the LDS faith who were having doubts. This was a bad PR move by the LDS church. People are leaving the church in large numbers because the truth of things are showing up all over the internet. Facts when you see them, you can't honestly deny them because the evidence is so strong. That is why the essays are showing up to try to do damage control and bring up facts they didn't want to talk about, facts that in the past if someone found out and spoke out about them, they would be excommunicated for.

Phatooine I'm pretty sure that most Mormons would say that their church isn't about a lifestyle per se -- it's about a set of beliefs about God. I've watched John's RU-vid videos for years and I've seen him change and become more strident, and say things that make it sound like he doesn't even believe in a heavenly Father or Jesus, much less Joseph Smith. So it baffles me that he thinks a church he no longer believes in should change and adopt his new life philosophy when clearly the church has no intention of doing such a thing, and understandably so.

Well... first of all it is completely crazy to me that I as a convert should know the BASICS of LDS ideology better than lifelong members. Where do I start. Ok...Lets start with the OVERALL theme here. Do you really believe the Lord (and subsequent bride) would feel pressured by mankind's political correctness? Nay I say. So first and foremost keep that in the forefront of your mind: Who is man that he should dictate to the Lord of Hosts? Now I will answer to my understanding the inquiries as suggested here on gay rights/gay marriage. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about ETERNAL PROGRESSION. WE as spiritual beings obviously did somethings right to allow us to progress from a premortal spiritual realm into this physical realm (where we can be like Gods knowing good from evil). Here on this earthly/physical plane we must do certain things in order to progress into the next realm. Baptism comes to mind. Obeying the commandments is another. If we do these things we are allowed to progress further. I'm sure in the next realm there will be other ordinances as well, and so forth until the fullness of our progression. Now part of the fullness of progression includes PROCREATION. If you are gay... you can not PROCREATE. So basically, a gay persons progression ENDS HERE on this physical plane; much like some spirits progression ended in the premortal spiritual plane (the Adversary and his bunch). If the Church IS THE TRUE CHURCH which I know it is... It can not tell you falsehoods or be anything other than that fullness of truth it purports to be. So I hope that helped about the whole 'gay' question. Ok...Women in the priesthood. They already are WHEN THE MARRY IN THE TEMPLE. They receive their garments and become priestesses (sic?) Because of Eve's disobedience its the only way. They must depend/cleave unto their husbands as their husbands depend/cleave unto Christ. Before my wife passed... She admonished me by saying... "I've hitched my wagon to your star" meaning you better not screw up. Now if I become the most profane sinner... do you honestly believe I will be rewarded with an honorable wife in the next realm? Or even worse drag her down with me? Nay I say! The Lord will simply give her to another as I wasn't true to my temple covenants. Therefore the next realm would be a hell of my own making. Knowing I could've had eternal progression; my beautiful wife forever, but because of my lustful/short comings I have forfeited those blessings as I did not bridle my passions as directed by the Lord. Now... all that said, I think I would've explained this to John and any others and told them to forget all this foolishness and be in church on time. Excommunication is a wee bit too much I think. An explanation to their satisfaction would've sufficed.

who would advocate for women having the priesthood obviously if they could handle it they would have it but they can't handle the responsibility of the priesthood

It's good that John did get excommunicated, he was never a true blue Mormon anyway and we, the LDS Church are better without him...I think it's awful what he's put his kids through, a home without a Priesthood holder is horrendeous

Jimmy Kennon funny. Our home is wonderful. And there’s not a single priesthood holder to be found. (Not even a person with a penis!) crazy.

"Oh, ye of little faith" Serves you right. You should know LGBQT is not about rights IT's A MORAL ISSUE.
@tiannabusby8382

Yes, it is a moral issue. It is immoral to deny others of fulfilling sexual and romantic relationships simply because they are different than the majority. It is immoral to deny others healthy self expression just because they are different than us. It is immoral to stand by anything that ignores the rights of others in favor of fear, hatred, misunderstanding, bigotry, ignorance etc. Absolutely this is an issue of morality. The question is: are we going to make the moral choice to love and accept others and grant them basic human rights or are we going to immorally continue to ostracize, ignore, demean, mistreat, deny, and belittle them? Morality is in how we treat each other. I choose to treat others morally.
