Agreed. I'm 57 so was too young to see the movie when it first came out. It was available from video rental shops until re-classification in the late 1980's, when it was banned. It could change hands under the counter though. I read the book later and have to say it's much creepier than the film. It's a brilliant film though, not only for the 'horror'. When you get over the shocks you can watch it again and again to appreciate the brilliance of it.

I only found out that ‘Pazuzu’ was played by a female, a few years after the Exorcist came out. Learning that the actress was Eileen Dietz, I found pictures of her in my sister’s fandom magazines (there wasn’t any Internet back then). She was sooooooo gorgeous, with this captivating smile, who I couldn’t believe was the same person who played Pazuzu. She is older now, still gorgeous, and still has that incredible smile.

The film still holds up so well 50 years later - and that is very rare for any film. The Exorcist was nominated in practically every category at the Academy awards - but won only for best sound and screenplay - "The Sting" won for best film - and while that is a fine film - (and one of my all-time favorites) - the lasting legacy & cultural impact of 'The Exorcist' far outshines it now ..

Wow, you've taught me something today. I had no idea that Jason Patrick was Jason Miller's son. Makes sense though, he's got that same, reverent demeanor about him. Jason Miller was probably one of the best actors of all time in my opinion. His portrayal of Karras was perfect. It had such a real feel to it, it just reeked of failed faith... there was such an air of despair about him, even just in scenes where he was silent. His performance is one of the things that make The Exorcist the best film of all time in my opinion.

Dick was my mentor when i was starting out in Makeup Effects in the 80's. He freely shared secrets and we all started doing the same. His inventions are so many that every makeup artist uses his techniques to this very day. To give you an idea how prolific this man was, he wrote a Halloween book for kids and wanted to come up with a fake blood that kids could use in their mouths. He took clear Karo corn syrup and mixed in red food color with a soap to make it soak into clothing and not bead. It looked so much better than the technicolor blood (Looked like paint) used in films, that it became an industry standard used on EVERY film to this day.

I actually remember being 9 when the movie came out, and recall people saying how terrifying it was, and people getting physically sick while watching it, and how they would have to leave the theater during the movie! I was actually afraid to watch it for the first time, just from it's reputation alone! One of my favorites now!🙂

Thank you for reminding me of that. I'd forgotten. I was 9 too and wondered if it would make me puke, but I wasn't allowed to see it back then. It wasn't until I read your comment that I remember thinking that.

@@websurfer5772 Yeah I wasn't allowed to watch it until years later myself! I had completely forgotten about all this until yesterday. 🙂 I'm happy you remembered too!👍

This Episode is SO DamNed KooL!!.... I did not know that Eileen Dietz was the demon face!... I love this woman. The Director star of William Friedkin was a nice touch, as well (felt good to stroll and look for that one). I love the look of Ms. Dietz's pad, as well... I'm proud of you GriMMs, you have come a long way.... All is love, and Happy Halloween.... :^)""""""""""""

I can totally understand why Eileen was chosen for the role. She has such a strong face, with the cast of her eyes, high cheekbones and firm chin. A great face any actor would die for. (So to speak...). I'll pick up a copy of her book.
