Thanks so much for watching, fam! Don't forget to drop a like if you enjoyed the video and watch the first part covering classic Mega Man ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9P2fVmh-hV4.html EDIT: I did a disservice in crediting the voice of X. His name is Mark GATHA not Mark Gartha. And it's Dr. Mark Gatha as he trained to be a orthopaedic surgeon. The more you know. Also, to clear up any confusion, X is NOT a reploid. He doesn't really have a label since he was created before them.
Actually X did everything by the book in X4. It's SOP that in a situation like this a soldier would disarm. So technically the Repliforce are Mavericks by virtue of both disobeying the chain of command, mass desertion, and treason. And the Final weapon was meant to be a deterrent by the Repliforce. Their end game was to finish the weapon and hold the government for ramson.
@@gmjjjones Apparently the Federation just wanted an excuse. The manual stated that the Repliforce was getting too powerful and the humans were scared. Sigma just pulled the trigger.
Hey! Great video, can you explain something for me? When you talk about the year and times you say XCX, or maybe XEX? Can you elaborate on that? I thought the games were in 20XX and 21XX? X just meaning some unknown time in the future?
The maverick virus causing Zero's personality to swap makes sense to me. I'm guessing the idea of the Maverick virus is to make robots deviate from their original programming, hence whh most of the peaceful robots become violent. But Zero's original programming is to be a bloodthirsty killing machine so when the virus alters him from that programming he becomes peaceful. It's kinda clever.
I agree, I also love how Wily's secret weapons counteracted eachother. You can even see the toll Zero's programing had on him before the virus kicked in, his mind was basically collapsing in on himself.
One thing thats clear is that Zero gone out of control and Wily sealed him and put a limiter on him. The Megaman 8 meteor virus is most likely the same thing in X5. When Zero gets the virus he becomes invincible yet X dies to it like poison
What are the credentials of the humans who even gave him the money in the first place? Seriously, the Megaman franchise might just be the one fictional media where Humanity is utterly stupid to let robots destroy the planet multiple times over the course of centuries and literal millenia.
@@TheBlackMastadonte Hey bro can you please make a Brazilian Portuguese version of this video? I wanted to send it to my friend but he doesn't know english 😢😢
I replayed Mega Man X5 recently, and I only then just realized how grim that game got. If you fail to destroy Eurasia, you’ve got the Earth virtually becoming extinct, McWhalen grieving the death of the sea, and X’s best friend becoming Maverick (symbolic death), sacrificing himself in a last moment of clarity (literal death) and X’s memories of him being deleted forever (ultimate death).
@@SocksFCGameArchives a bit of both and it mostly happens on Extreme mode, i started noticing it after my 5th run. and in some very rare cases just getting two parts for the laser cannon, will sometimes but extremely rare chance to disintegrate the colony. now this is just from my own experience but if you can manage to defeat dynamo without losing any extra lives on extreme might also affect the chances of the laser working.
the Maverick Virus apparently rewriting Zero from Evil to Good; like Wily programmed it as some Numerical Value that could roll over, is the funniest lore detail.
One of the craziest things about Mega Man lore is knowing humanity really survived all the bullshit the wars put Earth thru only for em to die on the moon when they finally leave lmao like wtf kinda luck is that??? 😭
Based on what was hinted in Legends 2, there was some "catastrophe" which took place on Elysium, leading to all humans on the space station dying and leaving the Master as the last surviving human in the universe. Supposedly, such a catastrophe would have been addressed in Legends 3 (had it not been because of Capcom).
@@link34_798 They were on the way of getting revived via cloning by Sera at the end of Legends 2. Had Legends 3 been released, it's possible they would still have been revived by the "Elder System" mentioned by Yuna at the end of Legends 2.
@@KazBeoulve Actually, it could also have been _Mavericks_ as "Megaman Trigger" (Megaman Volnutt's true name) used to be a "Purifier Unit" tasked with the location and eradication of Irregulars (which is the japanese term for Mavericks). Do you know what that means...? Megaman Trigger is a *Maverick Hunter.*
Whoa, what is tragic is that there was an X game after X5. I really like Megaman, but I won't call any X game after X5 good. Megaman Zero did it correctly. You have multiple games that culminate in an ENDING.
@@thorinhannahs4614 In Megaman Zero, Ciel lies to Zero by telling him that his best friend Megaman X had gone crazy and was killing innocent reploids. It wasn't till near the end of the game where she finally told Zero the truth. That actually she created a fake MegaMan X that had gone crazy and she lied and told everybody that that was the real Megaman X. She admitted to lying and destroying Zero's best friend's reputation and lying to Zero about it. And Zero didn't care at all. Instead Zero decided to trust and support Ciel for 3 more games. Zero and Ciel, heck the MegaMan Zero story is trash.
It's increasingly implied Light capsules aren't really memos and more like an AI that has his personality making the armors on the spot. At first it's just things that you could suspend your disbelief for, like how Light took *30 years* to make X after his hair had grayed or said capsules appearing in places like active vehicles. Then X4 has him referring to the war, when it was made clear that Reploids were Cain's thing. In X5 he calls Alia by name. By X6 the capsule abandons all pretenses of being a message by having a full conversation with Zero.
@@TheBlackMastadonte it could be close, though given most cyber elves die after being used and the Mother Elf is credited as the first, it might just be technology that resembles the process. He *is* one in the comics, though.
@@jvts8916 You missed X's endings from X5 where his hologram outright appears _outside_ of his capsules in order to rebuild X while telling him to hold on without showing any signs it's a prerecorded message. He definetly digitized his consciousness just like Wily did with Serges and Isoc.
I actually briefly talked to Ian Flynn, writer of the Mega Man comics, at a convention one time, and I brought up Maverick Hunter X's Vile story, I actually felt sorry for Vile at the end of his story. That lack of knowledge of what he actually wanted.
So basically Dr. Cain doomed humanity by replicating X and creating Reploids without doing diagnostic and morality tests the same way that Light did for X.
Yeah it's weird to think about. X exists, Zero and the virus still exist. But without reploids, who does the virus infect? The entire war basically becomes X vs Zero. A basic armor X with no dash ability VS a rampaging Zero. Would that X be able to beat that Zero? Or would Zero win and then just go around killing people?
@@mjc0961 Mechaloids? Other robots? They existed before Reploids and they went Maverick too because of Zero’s virus leaking out of his capsule. I think it would’ve done damage with or without Reploids. Just my opinion.
The problem with that is that X was only meant to be in that capsule for about 30 years if memory serves. Of course he wwas stuck in there much much longer than he was. Also even if Dr. Cain did or rather ordered the same thing with future reploids we have to remember there were other scientists developing reploids and likely people would deviate away from that after his passing either natural causes or getting blown up (depending on the version). For example Dr. Gate in X6 reploid designs were so bloody complex they could barely be anaylzed which..led to issues....
@@jerrym1218 Their personalities are also very similar too, been obsessed with being the strongest and seeing it their purpose in life to surpass their respective "rivals".
@@javiervasquez625I feel like more Reploids needed to hate X. Everyone has been existing for years, then X is found and all the humans see him as the greatest because he was made by Light. It's like Robo Jesus, and every Reploid is being described as inferior or lesser to a Reploid with true Free Will that can't even defend itself.
@@CampDeRio It certainly has one of the coolest characters and soundtracks in the X Saga. So sad (and disappointed) Capcom never capitalized on another home console RPG Megaman game.
what X didnt like in Axl is how he enjoyed "moping the floor" with the "mavericks" I agree with x8 feeling a bit out of character for X, guess they wanna turn him more into violence llike everyone else cuz people complain he's too whiny
He kind of got flanderized that way. It's definitely better for him to question the endless fighting but understand when it's required after the much story from X1 to X8 rather than be like "man I hate this shit I just wanna grill"
On Project X Zone, Vile appears as enemy resurected and basically doesn't care about his resurection. He learns X is the new Maverick hunter leader and laughs (at Sigma's expense). Later in the game he seems to learn, X's origin and gets more angrier. After he get beaten by X and the whole cast on his dying moments, he talks about "the legend of Megaman", his line "I would change the world" is about he would became the next "Megaman", then Vile ask X "why you're the only one who can change the world?". X is very confused by this words, because means nothing to him, due don't knowing the whole story behind his creation. I think tried to say Vile had learned about our boy Mega from classic and saw him as a war warrior, after all 1 robot vs countless robots and wining everytime? (also aliens), probably among Reploids he was a legend. Then, he learns that B class hunter is actually the literally next version of the legend, he kinda lost his shit.
@@SenshiSam That realization regarding X's purpose kind of humanizes Vile as it makes him come to conclusion that no matter how much he tries to defeat X, he will always be destined for greatness no matter how much Vile tries to prove himself the most powerful Reploid of the two. I so wish we had gotten Maverick Hunter X 2 to see Vile's character development continue as he goes through new lenghts to prove himself stronger than X.
don't recall this though it's been YEARS since i played project X zone but the legend of megaman is a story element in the manga which may be something in the setting of the story. basically a legendary reploid (as the people of 21XX believe it seems) that had both the capacity to be the ultimate warrior but showing great compassion and that was the basis for Iris and Colonel when they were meant to be the Ultimate Reploid but had to be split
@@NY-Buddy The existence of both _Serges_ and _Isoc_ has led many to theorize that the spread of the Maverick Virus across the entire world wasn't solely attributed to Sigma, but rather Dr. Wily *himself* who's been using robotic bodies in order to both continue trying to conquer the world and turn Zero back into his "default" form so that he may fight X. Sigma himself hints at Wily working behind curtains during the final battle in X5, suggesting that he's partly responsible for the spread of the Sigma Virus and the infection of the Eurasia Space Colony.
it was leaking out which is how Zero was found, other mavericks caused by the virus existed but they only caused incidents on a scale big enough to warrant investigating where what seems to be a virus is coming from
12:27 Now, here's the you have to remember at this point. Certain Mavericks actually chose to go with Sigma in this rebellion. Storm Eagle, Chill Penguin, Boomerang Kuwanger, and Launch Octopus chose to leave the Maverick Hunters as an example. You can also be designated as a Maverick if a replioid became a major threat. 17:33 Fun Fact: If you make it to Sigma Fortress after this battle and you didn't get the Buster upgrade, Zero will give you his buster. 17:50 They say that the main reason why the Rolling Shield was effective against this form was due to Armadillo's loyalty to Sigma. 29:09 MMX 2 brought in some very interesting gameplay during the boss battles. For example, if you use Overdrive Ostrich's weapon on Wire Sponge, upon his defeat, you will see him being cut in half. However, during the fight with Magna Centipede, if he catches you with his tail, he infects you WITH the Sigma Virus during the fight. 38:46 Fun Fact about Neon Tiger's stage. The music to this stage share the same notes to Guns and Rose's "My Michelle". Listen to the first 45 seconds of the stage and then listen to the song , "My Michelle" before the first verse. 39:38 It's you. 41:07 Now, here's a fun fact. If the lab is at the North Pole and the sun is actually setting, that means that X and Zero actually defeated Doppler and Sigma on the rarest parts of the year, September 21st. Just in time for fall! 43:41 If no one is going to point it out, I will. Why does she looks like a female version of Gate from X 6? 49:39 If you think about it for a moment, the Final Weapon is resembled as a flower shaped space station before its petals open up. After you beat the game, it opens up as an amaryllis flower. In Japanese spirituality, it's a flower that's associated with life and death. It represented the birth of an idea of a utopia and the death of that same dream. 57:13 Let's go back a couple of steps. In this game, since this is suppose to be the final game in the X series, If you fail to destroy the colony before the time limit, Eurasia will create an impact so great, it cracks all the continents on the planet. Think about that. The last impact Earth experienced, from space to change the landscape, was the hypothesized planet of Theia over 4.6 billion years ago. According to the theory, Theia was the size of Mars and it crashed into the earth with enough force that it actually ejected molten material to create the moon. Think about that! A man made structure had enough force to rival a proto planet. 1:00:11 Not as effed up as the Megaman Legends 1 situation.
I think I preferred it when Vile didn't think much of X in the beginning and it wasn't until X3 that he held an everlasting grudge because he wanted to return the favor.
Sorry to be that guy but megaman x isn't a reploid because reploids are robots doctor cane made using megaman x as a base otherwise awsome video man keep them comming
Sigma's "Wolverine claws" in X2 are inspired by Japanese hand claw weapons known as "tekko-kage." It's conceivable that the X-Men character Wolverine's design may also have drawn inspiration from this weapon.
Honesty happy to see x's history tho its sad he's always been my favorite mega man and mega man maverick hunter x was awesome Honesty should done all 6 would've have loved that also fun fact the voice X is actually saving lives i heard hes a orthopaedic surgeon
Theory as to how X was healed at the end of X5 My theory is that Dr. Light foresaw that X was going to fight zero at some point and used his copy data (that copies other robots) to integrate the zero virus into himself. And now that it's a part of him, it actually heals him instead of harms him. So its kinda like he copied Zero's data in the end Dr. Light and Wily are still competing to this day. And Wily definitely uploaded his conscience to the guys in x2 and x6
I don't remember where I read this but there was a theory that Dr. Wily have studied the Evil Energy from MM8 and infused/used Bassnium to make Zero. After Bass found out about this and nearly blew everything up (MM2: Power Fighters), Dr. Wily started repairing Zero again but since this repair period overlapped with Roboenza (MM10), Zero got infected with the virus and mutated into a new type of virus. And that's the Mavirck virus.
This one was amazing, X series is my favorite along with Zero & battle network, I always wished this series would get a anime adaptation, it would be dope af especially if they decide to go the route and choose Johnny young bosch as zero, since he voiced him, and have Yuri lowenthal voice X, like how they have always worked together
I know that it's been so long since you last said that you were working on this but I am so happy that you finally got to finish this great video and it was amazing to go through the lore of the series. After talking with a friend I pretty much agree that Maverick hunter x gave x really good character development and if it would have been possible then they could have kept something like that and further expanded upon in the later games and that Vile was straight up underutilized. That said the first X game is amazing X4 despite the awful voice acting is also great and X8 is highly underrated and cough Alia and Layer are hot as hell cough lol. Regardless great job with this fantastic video and all that hard work deserves a round of applause despite the long wait!
Coding often times has normal decimal units (0-9). If you try to push a specific metric beyond maximum - it will roll over to the other extreme. If you try to go beyond 9, it will become a…. *Zero~*
Glad your video got recommended here in yt. This was so entertaining. I love the Megaman Series and Capcom not doing anything with this franchise is absolutely criminal.
49:25 while i don't think it's stated, the giant ass laser was probably built as a deterrent, kind of like nuclear deterrents, sigma taking advantage of that (or possibly even GIVING them the idea to have a deterrent in the first place) just speculation but i thought it's interesting enough to mention.
I don't know if I've ever been more excited for a video. It was completely worth the extra time it took to get into parts of the Canon that even I didn't know! Granted my lore specialty is zelda... but megaman and X particularly is one of my favorite stories of all time. Also, love having the correction section. That's excellent integrity. Luckily, what you missed were minor details and nothing that alters the ultimate quality of your timeline
The reason General needed a superweapon is simple. If you're going to build your own country, you need a deterrent. It doesn't matter how peaceful your intentions are, no one will respect your autonomy if you aren't able to hurt them. The superweapon is there so that if anyone decides to fuck with them, they can tell them to back off.
One minor thing that irks me with the psp remake is the traffic in the background of the opening stage. It just seems to be flowing normally. Like, aren't people fleeing for their lives?
@@nameless3556 Funny how the original Super Nintendo version did a better job by actually showing cars _fleeing_ from the rampaging mavericks destroying the city.
First time seeing a video of yours, and wow, really well done (and the comments, pacing, etc gives a nice touch to it). You should do more games lore!!!
I see what everyone has said about Axl. But I liked it. It wasn’t like a complete character takeover with him, he was just a new character. Anyway I liked him and his game play back then.
As a 30-year long fan of this franchise (hell, Mega Man 3 was my first game ever of anything) you have genuinely made my day with this video and and your efforts to explore the lore. Keep up the fantastic work!
Just wanted to say thanks for putting this together. I didn't realize the MMXtreme games were actually NOT just remakes of X and X2 and it's always enjoyable to re-immerse myself in MMX in general. I can't believe you didn't go into how Zero beats the tar out Sigma *with a pipe* though. That shit was cold as hell.
Thanks so much! Yeah I was surprised about Xtreme too especially after how the Rockman World series was. And honestly, I should've talked more about that. Homie schooled him
I bought a PSP exclusively so I could play Maverick Hunter X. I was looking forward to it so much, and the idea that the rest of the series COULD'VE gotten the glow-up that X1 did, but didn't, is just heartbreaking. There's such a cool story in the X games, that's held back by the limited storytelling of their time. I think Axl gets a raw deal, too. He sucks in X7; but that's due to a combination of his awful voice acting, and X7 just not doing a very good job with its story and characters in general. He's MUCH better in X8 and Command Mission. Honestly, I'd like a game centered on Axl. Something that focuses on the fact that he dealt with a lot of lower level crimes and griminess compared to the Maverick Hunters. Something more down to earth that shows what the world is like for average people. An accident happened while Axl was on a mission, and he's temporarily suspended from the Hunters while they look into whether or not he should be held responsible; or potentially even labeled a Maverick. X is sure that Axl isn't a Maverick and wasn't malicious like some people are suspecting... but he does think it's possible Axl was reckless and negligent, and says he should just keep his head down to avoid arousing suspicion and risking harsh consequences. Zero though is more supportive, insisting that Axl isn't the same kid that ran away from Red Alert so long ago; and supports Axl in investigating what happened on his own. Maybe it could be like, a Metroidvania style thing. Axl can unlock or acquire a partial-copy ability, copying features like some huge beefy arms to break down walls or some jet boosters for a double jump or something, to allow him to use reploid abilities without compromising his own mobility, to unlock new areas to go to. (And also because fully transforming into other reploids has NEVER been fun.) Or.... SOMETHING, I don't know. The X series has been on a dang cliffhanger for so long now, I just want it to pick back up. I love this series so much, for its gameplay and its lore and I just want it to come back.
Also unrelated to lore but I just wanna keep talking about Megaman X, I love Sigma's design and the design of X's armor in X8. They both solve a problem that I think they had; namely that they're all poor imitations of their X1 versions. They all look like they're trying to copy the same basic principles of the X1 designs; slapping extra colors, extra patterns, onto the clean, simple original designs; and none of them are as strong as a result. The only exceptions are X5 and X6's Gaea and Shadow armors, since they go in a different direction; and X5's Sigma, as well. Except while I like the armors, I don't think X5's look really fits Sigma. The sleek, futuristic appearance doesn't really fit a big brute of a man like Sigma. X8, Sigma, though? The decayed, remnants of a man who's resurrected himself over and over again, seemingly for pure spite by this point? More virus than reploid, a metallic husk animated by the pure energy he's become? That's fucking awesome. And I LOVE the design for the Neutral armor, its colors and design are so different from everything that's come before in a really cool way.
The series was supposed to end at X5, leading to megaman zero. Megaman Zero is unique that it actually got a conclusion and ending to the series. The series then supposedly continues to ZX
1:05 It is very likely that the Maverick hunter field guide when it refers to “supernatural” forces having to do with Zero’s resurrection it means that just like Dr Light brought X back to life in X5, Wily was the one Zero back. There’s a dialogue that Zero has with Dr Light after finding one of the capsules asking him if he knows who brought him back to life? Implying he lied to X about the whole “hid himself as he repaired himself” bit.
Awesome video, its actually kinda crazy because of the length i thought you were going to cover the complete timeline and not just the X games, but i guess it just goes to show how beefy the lore is. I hope you continue with MegaMan Zero timeline, because it basically retcons the X6 endings lol, theres a whole other series of Wars that happens off screen and Zero gets damaged in before being put to sleep lmao.
@@notsans9995 The Zero games onwards only retcon Zero's ending from X6, as the official Capcom Megaman Timeline acknowledges the Zero, ZX and Legends games as taking place after X7 and X8. Axl himself is referenced in a post X game (won't spoil in case you wish to find out on your own).
1:07:27 - This is even crazier if you consider that Isocs voice actor is literally Dr. Wily, but to quote it from the Wiki: "Additionally, Isoc's Japanese voice actor, Takeshi Aono, is the same actor that voiced Dr. Wily in Mega Man 8, Mega Man X4, and other games. Haruki Suetsugu's comment on how he was "thinking about a [certain] scientist" while designing him also supports this theory"
I definitely agree that X7 and X8 are in the main timeline. Not only does it make the timeline less complicated (which is always appreciated) and also makes sense considering ZX Advent and Model A. Also, since Command Mission takes place at the same year as the Zero series, it’s non canon (still a really cool game though).
I grew up playing ALL the Megaman games since the first one. As an older gamer, I did not expect to get a new Mega Man content on youtube. Not only is this new content, but it is so high quality, funny, and I can see it was made with alot og passion! I can truly see you enjoy the game and the lore! Thank you so much for making such a wonderful video that sparkled my memories!
1:05:50 - Reminds me now how X was "repaired" by a holographic Doctor Light in that one Mega Man X ending. So when you said this, i immediately assumed Doctor Wily did the same with Zero.
@@TheBlackMastadonte I still find it weird how in the ENTIRE timeline of the Mega Man X series, we only ever saw Doctor Wily ONCE in person (even though it was just a silhouette of Doctor Wily looking at Zero inside his Capsule) during a flashback in a Dream that Zero had. I wished they could had explained more in-depth how Doctor Wily was still able to hang around, but i will just assume it was possibly through the Virus he had created.
For X7, if you heard the JP dub when playing as Axl, you will get surprisingly more accurate role between him and the Irregulars. Like he and Flame Hyenard and really a buddy, the JP dub state that he will "put him on rest" to end his suffering, while the EN dub didn't to any justice saying like he will eliminate him as a way to cure him. And how Axl and Anteator relations is like grandson and grandpa and with Crowfang is like little and old brother (althought that part is revealed in Zero's dialogue rather than Axl)
I think Wily pulled the same thing that Light did and turned his consciousness into an AI so he could continue to interract with Zero and enact his will, but when Zero defected Sigma was the one who ended up finding Wily's AI and collaborating
Thanks for mentioning the bomb drop at the end of X3 saying that X must eventually destroy Zero! You did a great job calling back the memories of being stunned reading that at the end of the game, especially right after going through the dramatic endgame fights.
To make it easy for the young gen. Sigma is the Purple Guy. 👾 They did Zero like they did Shadow the Hedgehog. They kill them just to bring them back just because they are fan favorite. lol
The story for the X series is definitely a more serious, hardcore story that rekindled my love for the series. I can't look at Classic anymore the same way as I used to, the stakes aren't there. This video is so good, and it's very thorough. Have you tried the X8 Demake yet? It's really, really good!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I'm only half way through and I need to comment - this is such a thorough and thoughtful recap and and analysis of the series. Hell yes! Thank you for this!
@@RikouHogashi At the expense of poor X who got mistreated in the most offensive way imaginable. I'm still depressed at what they did to him in Zero 3.
Not sure if you’ve caught the scene, pretty sure you probably did. But Zero does meet Light in X6 and asks him if Dr Light is the one who repaired him. Dr Light denies it. Also X7/X8 are canon due to ZX Advent involving Metal A which is soul of Axl and ZX is canon sequel of Zero
Technically, It is still ambiguous (I like the idea of Model A being Axl cuz it would make sense even it's personality takes more traits on him than Albert) but well Inti really decided not to step on the X series toes because they never had communication between developers to know what was Axl's fate after X8 onwards, so they made the Biometal to be part of Albert and not too much influence by Axl but if Capcom wants probably they can change that in the future (or well if MegaMan gets new entries...).
I always appreciate new Mega Man lore/timeline videos. Always helps in keeping the franchise fresh in my mind. Also, Mega Man X Command Mission came out before X8, and the English Dub was done by the same people then. It seems like that was the first time for Mark Gatha, Lucas Gilbertson, Jeffrey Watson, etc. in voicing their characters, and they kept getting better in each game they voiced in.
I can’t explain the joy, relief and satisfaction I feel when I come across serious gamer fans’ RU-vid channels that not only love a particular game series, but also are willing to delve into the lore of said game series. I’ve always enjoyed Mega Man, with Mega Man 8 being the very first one I ever played, Mega Man Legends 2 after that, and THEN eventually got around to playing Mega Man X4. I’d like to someday play all of the games for the experience but for now this is interesting enough to spin me up on the iconic blue character. Thanks for the content and much love from Charleston SC!
I came here from the classic megaman lore video and i just need to say this... Your videos are awesome! You just gained another subscriber. Keep up the good work bro!
Okay, not that I exactly blame the Repliforce for getting all defensive, but ethno-states usually never work out, or have the strongest justification for why they should be nations of only X. Like, historically or in fiction, not a good idea in the long run... And their later actions don't really help heir case...
@@LongTran-kp3kz Add to that their close proximity to the Sigma Virus, and it was even more impossible for Repliforce to ever achieve their independence with such a rotten foundation.
I mean, every society on Earth is comprised only of humans, and yet we've somehow managed to make them work for the most part. I do agree that Repliforce kinda shot themselves in the foot, though.
Really appreciate the side notes about what was going on outside the games for added context. I already know all the lore from obsessing over it for almost 30 years now, but I didn't realize Capcom was simultaneously deceloping X-Men and that could be why Sigma gets Wolverine claws. Great stuff! Looking forward to the Zero series!
The conversation in X8 that seems out-of-character seems in-character to me. It's to probably enforce the return to X's original personality before X7 turned him into a coward.
@@TheBlackMastadonte X is what i like to call a reluctant fighter; he hates violence and wishes there was another way to solve problems without conflict, but since he knows there's no other way other than to fight, he reluctantly goes into battle to uphold the peace and protect the innocent.
6:38 That was only in Maverick Hunter X, a planned reboot to X series which was cancelled. The reason he sealed X is because he fears X's potential to become the threat to humanity, so he need to undergo morality testing before release him.
My personal theory is that Vile is Bass, the exact same Bass from classic MegaMan, only he kept upgrading himself to the point he kinda forgot who we was originally, he's a robot so he doesn't have true free will only pseudo-free will limited by his parameters, so even if he forgot his original identity he still has that prime objective to defeat Dr light's strongest robot and prove he's the ultimate robot, in classic Dr Light's strongest robot was MegaMan himself but now Dr Light's strongest robot is X, which explains why Vile hates X with such an irrational passion He doesn't know why he hates X something inside him forces him to hate him It also explains why Vile needs so many extra tools, weapons and full model upgrades instead of relying his core buster/saber like all other reploids, his core is simply outclassed/outdated but his shoulder mounted gun isn't
Megaman X is one of my favorite series of all time, I didn't know there was so much lore behind it because when I was a kid I couldn't read English. Thanks for this video it was awesome
Never played a Mega Man game in my life, but I have appreciated some of the character designs and names over the years. Having randomly been suggested this video by the algorithm, glad I sat through it. The stories of the games can be pretty good and I'm tempted to play some of these games. I feel sorry for Iris, she really got the short end of the stick. I get the feeling that Vile, especially given the coloration of his last design, was jokingly referred to as Robo Fett.
Yeah, Iris's fate is possibly among the worst in the franchise. The Repliforce War practically started because of her, she could only watch helplessly as her brother was destroyed, she may have suffered cognitive damage as a result of their connection being severed, tried to kill Zero, ended up dying in his arms admitting her feelings for him in her final moments. Only thing that could have possibly made it worse is if Iris did indeed turn out to be the Mother Elf, who is a whole 'nother can of worms. Also yeah I can definitely see the Robo Fett jokes being a thing.
So for the events of the X and ZERO series? X's ending leads to X7 and X8 and later MegaMan Legends. ZERO's ending leads to the ZERO and ZX series and also later MegaMan Legends the end goal of the MegaMan timeline is always going to be the Legends series. Also can I say X7's story was the biggest waste of potential ever? Like imagine instead of X being all "Mehhhh violence!" He sees the world being thrown into chaos with humans and reploids no longer having it and starting their own vigilante groups, it would make him question whether or not he's actually making a difference as a hunter with him growing resentful of the thought of him not doing enough causing him to leave the hunters not do to anti-violence reasons but to become a vigilante too maybe that's where he would meet Axl with his and X's relationship mirroring X and ZERO's old relationship, maybe show X's relationship with the hunters especially ZERO and Alia is strained, maybe even show X becoming more aggressive alluding to the ZERO series showing that X might be going down a dark path that the hunters have to pull him out from.
@@dudenamedzelda3179 According to the official Capcom Megaman Timeline, all of the events in the X Saga (including X7 and X8) take place in the same timeline which leads into the events of the Zero Saga onwards. It's why Model A from ZX Advent has a bolt on its forehead as a direct reference to Axl's fate in the X Saga (won't spoil). That said, i love your idea of what could have been a far better story for X instead of the deconstructed "pacifist" who lets innocent people die just because he "doesn't like violence".
Damn, man! Thank you so much for this in-depth video on Mega Man X! I absolutely loved this video game as a kid and was over the moon when I got the first installment as a Christmas gift from my dad. I literally played it tirelessly throughout my winter break, and as an artist, I then found myself drawing Mega Man and originally created inspired characters thereafter for fun. Might just go back to it now that I think about it.
I only consider X7 and X8 Canon because of ZX Advent. If the Biometals are the Spiritual Data of X, Zero, and the Guardians, it wouldn't be too far off the assume Master Albert may have somehow gotten his hands on Axl's Data to make Model A and Subsequently the Ouroboros.
@@juanconnor5804 In some cases like Vile (where it's made explicitly clear he suffers a malfunction) the term Maverick is used to refer to his broken progamming leading to him been a threat to both Humans and Reploids alike. In other cases such as Sigma, he can be labeled Maverick due to his very original purpose been the _Commander_ of the Maverick Hunters only for him to dismiss his very duty to side with the enemies he was meant to counter. It depends on the Reploid and the circumstances which lead to them been labeled as Maverick.
Of course. I had to! I watched another timeline video that just brushed it off as not canon and I thought that wasn't. It at least deserves some exploration
Hey. You're one of my favorite creators for this kinda stuff. I'm a hobby game dev in my spare time and I'm spending a lot of time programming mechanics for my project. It can get really boring when you're working on something (relatively) larger and there's no end in sight. I'm going through that now, and your long-form videos help pass the time. Thanks for that, and please keep it up. I just passed the intro and I'm so hype for the rest, and it doesn't really feel that bad slogging through this spaghetti code while you're hitting me with all this lore and commentary. I grew up with this, and it is a crazy blast from the past.
