About Aisling turning all skeletony around the cave of Crom Cruach. It makes sense if you know a bit more about Crom. From what I found, Crom Cruach was a pagan deity from Pre-Christian Ireland. It demanded sacrifice of the first born child in exchange for fertility of the land and women. Apparently worship of Crom started with Tigernmus when he and 3/4 of his troops killed themselves in it's name. It's worship stopped when St. Patrick destroyed it's idol using a sledgehammer, casting the demon to Hell. So since Aisling is a forest guardian, it makes sense that being around Crom will suck the life out of her giving Crom Cruach's history.
@Martin Silvan Early Christians demonized most of the old pagan faiths and others as devil's work. Most religions predate Him by millennia. Violent subjugation by the foreign God's followers. Just a thought tho 🙃 did not mean to offend. I really like your comment!
You see, my read is that Brendan is using a tool, used for writing and drawing, for preserving history and stories, to defeat the thing, that eats away at people and their memories of things; Like Aisiling's parents- The protagonist is trapping a loose concept of a scary thing in a clean round circle of knowledge and understanding, not letting it instill fear, but not letting it fade into obscurity either. This scary "pagan nonsense" is still there, but it can't hurt anyone anymore. And, besides, Brendan _needed_ it, because Crom's eye helped him finish the Book- A part of these pre-Christianised "fairytales" helped shape the culture, and without it, the Book wouldn't have been complete. Basically, Brendan is memorizing and keeping the story of Crom, but not letting it cause any more suffering-
So let me get this straight. A twelve year old boy just FACED DOWN an evil pagan deity, and not only blinded it, but tricked it into fucking KILLING ITSELF. Brendan. YOU ARE AWESOME.
Hey everyone! It's so cool to see the views on this video and everyones take on this scene. I was lucky enough to voice Brendan for this movie its really been a cherished experience for me. I hope you have all had a similar experience in watching it. Thanks for posting this video :D
All those time I've played snake, I never expected those little bits of food to trap me in a circle and...rip out my eye. Though I did end up eating myself a lot.
@Martin Silvan hadn't thought about Aisling. She is, along with the wolfs, the only deity that can be reasoned with. However, Brendan is very much the christian perspective, what does Aisling represent there? The true, healing side of paganism?
@Martin Silvan Aisling's parents and people were taken by Crom, though. Crom and Aisling can die like the other Tuatha de Dannen, but not from sickness or old age like mortals do.
@Martin Silvan But Asiling is the only Tuatha de Dannen left. Her people were killed by Crom, even though they are forces of life from the Earth Goddess, Danu. How do you know they will rise again? And how? And when?
@Martin Silvan But wasn't Crom killed by St. Patrick? And I heard the Tuatha de Dannen had actually went to live underground. To me, I guess the concept of spirit and the forces of nature are one in the same, yet also separate. But they can't return just as a memory. When will the Old Gods rise and take over again, to be more than a memory and rule again?
As they say, The Dragon gets things going. Re: Crom Cruach and Tigernmus. Tigernos simply means King so we get Vortigen(os) The High King (Celtic languages dropped the Indo-European os, us case endings). Of course archaic names and ideas live on in place names. I've got a feeling that these names of gods -Deities are far older than the Iron age Celts.

Also the design of crom cruach is likely inspired by deep sea fishs like dragon fish or viper fish since these creatures live in an environment that is in complete darkness.
So…a literal killing of a pagan deity using a writing instrument Or A metaphor such as Brandon entering the cave and seeing a crystal on a stone as in many a tomb and shrine?
It is a metaphor pointing to that when after he acquired the eye of serpent he realized through it that the serpent itself is a cyclic feedback process. The whole movie is heavily symbolical rooted in jungian deep psychoanalytical paradigm.
I watched this movie a lot when I was a little kid, I never really understood it but this scene made me feel weird like I was in some fever dream, this whole movie I never understood I just really liked the girl and the art style, i realized it’s kinda dark now that I’m older and very trippy.
I loved this movie as a kid, but I remember nothing from it at all. Watching it as an adult, I still don’t understand what the movie is about or what is happening. I watched it on netflix when I was little, it was on there when Netflix first started out. But like I remember nothing from it nor understood nothing.
It’s a movie called The Secret of Kells. It’s ultimately about the creation of The Book of Kells, which is a real Gospel book with beautiful hand-drawn illustrations and lettering made around 800 AD
