This is one of the best Hurricane clips I've seen. The sound allows me to hear the power of Nature and the camera isn't moving all over giving me vertigo. Thank you for the time. Sending this from Okinawa home of typhoon season.
I will never forget this storm. We left Homestead and was heading to Georgia. My heart stopped beating and I was told that some National Guards men did CPR on me . I just remember having anxiety and panic thinking about family and friends especially in the Keys. We ended up staying in Orlando at my sister’s house. 😢 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 that we never go through anymore bad stories
@@inforthekiii8840 That's unlikely; tornadoes don't happen within hurricanes' eyewalls. Chances are though, it could have been a mini-swirl that particularly intense hurricanes are known to have embedded within them. It seems like people confuse them with tornadoes a lot.
You were so calm. Was there ever a time when you worried about your safety/the structural integrity of your home, questioned if you should have left...?
Karen Berhow absolutely. The front walls of the house were bowing inward because we face due north and literally took it head on. We added a storm shutter to the front door so we wouldn’t run the risk of the door blowing in and we added some hurricane strapping on the roof trusses along the front of the house. Now we feel a bit better and we ended up with a huge discount on our insurance because of it!
@@robingillespie5047 I don’t live in a hurricane prone area but my house’s roof and walls handled 100mph gusts from the north northwest without much movement. (Cyclone like blizzard) but they were shaking .
Hi Robin you all remained so calm during such catastrophic winds I hope any damage you had was minimal we are up here in Jacksonville and had a lot of serious gust in the morning of Sept 11 I would have guessed to be the better part of 100mph, but OMG yours looked to be around 150 is that about right?
Did a frame to frame analysis. The maximum sustained winds in this video were around 100-110 mph with gusts between 120 - 140 mph. This is probably caused by the fact that this was not filmed in an open area. Still very damaging winds though.
I know this wind all too well. I’m on the east coast is south FL; we didn’t get the eye wall like you but had very strong gusts and tons of tornado warnings. But... I was in the eye wall in Wilma in 2005 and this is similar to what that was like. Irma was quite a storm and yet we were lucky it hit Cuba first otherwise it would’ve been twice as bad.
@@robingillespie5047 I meant like on satellite and radar the southern part of the storm had eroded away, but the northern eyewall remained intact at it made landfall in Naples, so I thought that the major part of the storm would be over
Been watching this stormy video for months now. I like the recorded sound I find it relaxing often have the video on loop and that tree that poor tree that gets ripped out, that wind must have been pushing some miles per hour! Reading up on it Cat 5 type highest peak wind 199MPH! Good gosh! 134 souls killed in it. When the storm beast comes, get inside take cover! Don't be action hero running around in that.
The Saffir-Simpson scale is used to assign hurricanes their category. And, it is an open-ended scale..meaning there is no official "highest peak wind". However, this video was recorded in Naples, Florida. Irma was a Cat 3 when the eye crossed the coast 20 miles south of Naples. The highest wind gust recorded in Naples was 142-MPH, sustained winds are naturally lower. The strongest tropical cyclone wind ever recorded was 215-MPH (345 km/h) in Typhoon Nancy (1961). Tornadic wind has been clocked up to 318 mph (512 km/h). In spite of the video's title, what you see in this video is the eyewall, not the eye. The eyewall is where a hurricane's strongest winds are found.
It was awesome and a bit scary, of course we weren't there, but my family in Clermont FL boards up their windows and glass doors. Anyway these are some brave people. Mean weather.
Hey David, do you have an email address we can use to contact you regarding this video? I'd love to discuss a license to use this if possible! Cheers, Felix
Some kind of wiring down across the street. The suv up close to the house and backwards is smart. Good job filming, not a bunch of racket and people talking.
@@cofkavos no, i was talking about the electronic noise cancellation 😂, it comes activated by default and it has a very noticeable effect on sound as tries to figure out witch is noise and witch is voice. Listen carefully 😉
@@Mr.Nabil.Belhaj Ooohh, I see. My mistake. my apologies if I came off as aggressive! Also, thank you so much! That means a lot ^^ Those ones are rather old; I really should update them rip
