Brilliant informative video Tim. You know doubt see, as I do, the F Type forum is full of tails of woe and destruction on this subject. I too have asked my local specialist about the preventative maintenance, and they have both told me to “go away and only come back if you have a problem” Listening to you and your words of advice is both reassuring, and (coming from someone with great knowledge and experience) very helpful. My 2017 V6S AWD F Type is without doubt one of the best cars I have ever owned, and your video has just given me every more reason to relax and enjoy it even more. Thanks.

Good advice, thank you. I have a 2016 F-Type S Convertible with about 17,000 miles on it, and I am well aware of this possible problem. Once I learned of it, it has been a point of worry indeed! But taking your advice, I'll just deal with it if and when it happens, and not worry so much now. Thanks again for the solid advice and for sharing your experience in dealing with this.
Very informative. The only reason I was considering a preventative upgrade was because I had hoped to do a couple of visits to the continent in the next few years with my 2014 R (25k) and I’d hate the disappointment of a breakdown. Just one other question for you next Y pipe video - what other parts are worth changing whilst the supercharger is off?
Great video...thank you for posting. I recently had this same issue and had it replaced by my preferred specialist shop who I trust with my '14 v8 type S. You mentioned a couple of things that I'm curious about. How many hours is common for this repair? The part that was replaced is new from Jag so I assume it's the newer design...do you know what the part number is for the newer pipe and can I expect this issue to be less likely to arise again?
Many thanks for commenting, and for those very kind words. An experience technician should be able to do this job in around two hours, someone with lots of practice, in less. I don’t have the number to hand, but it’s easy to tell, because the new part doesn’t have the two part moulding, with a seam along the middle. I’m not aware of any examples of the older part being in circulation, so any replacement fitted, will be to the new design. With the new part fitted, you shouldn’t ever suffer from this again.
The new design came in in 2017, along with the technical bulletin on this topic. We’ll shoot another video soon showing you how to tell whether you have the old or new pipe, but the pipes don’t always fail, and we don’t recommend preventative replacement.
