I was a young dad when this show came out, and I have to admit I watched this show with my kids as they were growing up. It was the catchy tune that first got my attention early in the first season, and as I watched the shows each week, I realized they were teaching useful lessons to young viewers, but without hitting them over the head with the messages or preaching. Of course, there were always laughs and Charlotte Rae brought so much to the table. I still remember my young daughter and son, when I took them to an Angels baseball game, they were so excited when they saw Nancy McKeon and Mindy Cohn in line getting snacks. My daughter said hi to Nancy and Nancy said hi back with a smile, and my little girl was on Cloud Nine after that.
I met Mrs.Garrett at a video store I worked at. I was so star struck and nervous when I recognized the name on her credit card, my hands started shaking. Mrs.Rae told me stop typing the information I was to rent her the movie, she told me to come out from the counter and she gave me a HUGE hug.She said that she has never met such a star struck fan's reaction as did mine and she was flattered.(her words) This was my first job after being homeless for 4 years. I will cherish that memory forever.
What a great memory! Thank you for sharing your story! I'm glad you are no longer homeless!!! I wish you so much success in your like, may you inspire so many people, as you just now, have inspired me. GOD BLESS YOU.
OMG!!! They all look incredible!!! Each of them are beautiful women. I always dug Kim Fields when she grew up turned out to be a hottie on the sit-com 'Living Single'. She stills get me going to this day. :-)
Boy did Kim Fields get a lot of "Shade" when she was on The Real Life Housewives of Atlanta. They forgot that she kicked the door open for a lot of African American Child Stars like Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges. She's one of the very few Child Stars who didn't get into trouble. IE Drugs, Alcohol, Prison.
in my honest opinion. she should have never been on there. today and TV and movies does not nor never will ever will produce the quality that she and all those classic shows stood for.
2:28 “If u hit me with that, I’m gonna lay you out. *whack* - That’s all!” - Lol!!! 😂 I’d forgotten how much I loved this show growing up. I’m so glad I grew up in a time when shows were more wholesome and lighthearted. Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Three’s Company, Growing Pains, etc. I really miss those days.
She even said that on the show....that she would never age because of her cheek bones. It's on the Shoplifting episode. She looks amazingly young still.
Whereas the people and being able too late now that is a kid who are the people and being able to make it to be a kid who are the people and being able to make it to be a kid who are the people and 2211secojfk gyuhfyfgxdthyfty
I was in love with Nancy McKeon when this show was on TV. Her character, Jo, was portrayed as a "tough girl" from Brooklyn but she really had a vulnerable side. And Nancy was SO attractive on this show--she was Mary Ann to Lisa Welchel's Ginger. Nancy is still a very lovely woman, isn't she ??
they don't have shows anymore where teens come in all shapes and sizes. they are all cookie cutter clones because it seems people are more shallow and obsessed with looks. than they were even then.
Yet all the teens nowadays are fat! Not all, but a huge percentage. It took me 50 years for my ass to get fat, yet so many kids nowadays make me feel skinny. What will happen to the youth that are now obese when they get in their 40s and 50s?? My blood pressure is a little high, but I can only imagine how it would be if I was an overweight. Parents!!! Stop feeding your children processed foods.
I grew up on this show. I had a huge crush on both Jo AND Blair, hell I think most elementary schools boys I knew did. But I didn’t know the first season had 4 more girls who were eventually dropped, trimming the cast to this familiar group. One of them was a young Molly Ringwald.
You know, as much as I liked that show, as well as a lot of others at that time (Dukes of Hazards, Magnum PI, Wonder Women, Good Times, The Jeffersons, etc.) none of them holds a candle to RU-vid!
Asking the cast members to sing the theme song was awkward, and Kim Fields tried to put her foot down. Jean Stapleton politely but firmly refused to ever do her "Edith Bunker" voice once her role on "All In The Family" wrapped.
They were lucky to get Nancy McKeon to even appear on this show, as she clearly sought to separate herself from FOL once its run was over. Evidently, they thought that having the "lost girls" from Season 1 would have been a bit awkward, not that big screen star Molly Ringwald would have ever agreed to attend. I was also surprised to see Geri Jewell here, as she left FOL on not so friendly terms when the producers refused to award her a regular role.
I'm fairly certain that there were focus groups, and research done about who stayed and who went after the first season. I keep seeing posts about why those that were let go, were not on these reunion show. Other than Molly, I couldn't have told you any of they're names or rven they're characters names. Maybe I'm not alone. And maybe that's why they were not included. I still know the everyone elses first and last names of actresses and the characters they played.
This was cool and everybody still looks the same basically, especially Nancy McKeon those eyes of hers just stop you in your tracks. These ladies have definitely been taking care of themselves for real! They should have had the original cast there too.
Im really glad to see NancyMckeon bck wit them shes so pretty!! I love the show,i got it on dvd, lisa,w.is on twitter tried a few times to tlk to her no responce!!
Charlotte Rae was really funny as a tupperware lady on All in the Family, as a guy who was 14 when the Facts of Life began, I had other reasons why I was in the show, heheh, I always thought Kim Fields was cute. I didn't mind the first season. NBC had a few comedy shows with cute teens in them when I was a teen. Also, Family Ties and Gimme a Break.
OH. BROTHER !!!!!! I saw Charlotte Rae in a grocery store and recognized her right away..... and I asked her how is it that Nat hiking didn't make the spin off from the television series you and Al Lewis was supposed to do???... she asked me just how old are you and I told her I am 28 years old your guys were supposed to do a television series from the spin-off of car 54 the name of it posed to be the browsers .. then she gave me that look😂😂😂 and said to me you know you're very sharp you got a very sharp mind I said I most certainly do she also told me that Nat hiking died at the age 54 so the series was never done
When Ms. Charlotte Rae made the comment at the show about all of them turning out to be straight, I knew exactly what she meant. None of them are strung out on drugs, alcohol, or crime. That was a term they used in her day. But, I knew some people would think she was talking about sexual preference.
I saw the writers on the documentary about the show. I thought they were lesbians and the all female vibe added to that perceptionnand the girls um boarding school. In addition, there was a chemistry btw Blair/Lisa and Jo/Nancy that hinted at bisexuality. As we say-what is the difference between a lesbian and a het woman? 2 vodkas.
I was fortunate to grow up in the 80's when sitcoms were abundant. The Facts of Life was always a favorite in our house. I'm actually watching the show as I type this. Reruns rule!!
LBF522 Funny, but a friend of mine is a lawyer, and he always makes it a point of referring to the co-operator of his firm as his LAW partner. Just a few years ago, he only used the word "partner".
atlantic 11561 No because the definition of gay has changed which is a shame. As for Charlotte Rae, someone from her generation says that word "straight" one can correctly assume she meant they were decent and law abiding.
@108813070947074909161 True the definition of some words do change with each generation which is a shame but as for Charlotte Rae's comment, again it was obvious what she meant
TV has never been and never will be the same ever again. when TV meant something. when the shows said something. punky Brewster. silver spoons. cheers. what's happening. threes company. and all the classic greats. too many to name. impossible to even try to list then all. historical legends.
jfree1998 this show still had some shocking moments.... but it was a family show. They're still around in some capacity. Big Bang Theory, for instance.
Kim Fields mother was also an excellent actress, abusive mother to Janet Jackson's Penny on Good Times.Chip Fields.Loved to hate her on that show!!Talent runs in the family...
I watched the show when it originally aired. The Facts of Life episodes are on a playlist on here. I started watching a couple of weeks ago. I'm on season 5 and just watched the episode in which Kim Fields' mom, Chip, was on the show. (Today's date is January 18, 2017.)
@@bmbutler2 I felt the same way! First, I didn't know the actress that played Penny's mother was Kim Fields' mother! But those episodes (I think was a 2 or 4 part episode??) I got goose bumps when she held up the iron and the look on Penny's face..even tho they didn't show the actual act of burning her with the iron, you knew..and also James?? My favorite actor on the show...he was the best. I just loved him and show wasn't the same without him. But yes, when the episode of when he died...you just really felt it.
I've always admire CHIP because she had KIM at such a young age and where MOST young mothers would have quit acting, CHIP continued acting and got KIM to do it as well, that's so amazing
@@tiana1017 I agree and her other daughter acts as well. She was on the show Brandy when they were in college. Brandy and her played roommates. She's her mother's twin.
Everyone aged very well! I must admit Kim Fields was my favorite because I didn’t see black girls on TV (not to mention going to private school) a lot back then in sitcoms so I loved Facts of Life! I loved Kim even more on Living Singles. She just a very talented actress thanks to her mom.
This was such a great show, especially for young girls! It's so sad that today's generation of kids don't have any current programs like this to guide them and teach them valuable life lessons. Today's kids need it so urgently in this troubled world!
True, sitcoms are not exactly what they used to be anymore. Now what they teach is only being obsessed with race, gender and indoctrination of political correctness
Back in the 80's There weren't alot of multi- racial sitcoms. The families were majority white with some ethnic people sprinkled in here and there. "Goodtimes", "The Jeffersons" and the "Cosby" were actually about the whole family. "Different strokes" was about adopted black kids. "Webster" was about an adopted black kid. "Benson" was about a black butler. "Give me a break" was about a black maid.
RLMP Productions Gimme a Break was not about a black maid. Nell was best friends with the family's mother and promised her at her deathbed she would take care of her daughters. Nell was not a maid.
This was a great show that actually taught great life lessons. It was definitely a quality family oriented program. They don't make shows like this anymore, how sad ........
@@Diostillrocks I see it differently. Those issues you mentioned are what families deal with every day. In my family, I had a cousin who got pregnant at 19 and another cousin who struggled with substance abuse. Family is sticking through those tough times, because they are inevitable in any family. We can’t hide real life struggles from our kids. They’re going to see it everywhere they go. What we can do is teach them the importance of supporting one another in good times and in times of struggle. That is what creates family unity and family values.
I consider myself to be a very lucky person to come from a generation of shows like The facts of life. I remember me my little brother and big sister all sitting in front of the console floor model television and we would sing along to the opening theme song and then spend the entire show laughing and talking about how much we wish we were like the characters. Me a mt know little brother used to always call our sister Natalie. To this day(we're all pushing 40 yrs age) my big sis still reminds me of Natalie. Oh the good days of true childhood innocence is over.
She literally did , you should watch this . It explains why the cast drastically changed from first to second season . ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y72fTKZTWk4.html
Loved this show. It started a few years before i was born but i watched it in re-runs growing up and loved seeing the characters grow up and evolve. Blair and Jo's love/hate friendship was always so interesting to me.
I wasn't even born until 1990 but i seen it on tv as reruns and then acked for it on DVD for Christmas i am 28 i love that show but then again i love older shows like the fact of life what's happening happy day's ond day at a time
My favorite show growing up. I wanted to go to boarding school so bad. Had to settle for residential summer camp though. But at least I have the DVD set for memories!!!
