(Please be patient, because the music doesn't start until 1:06).
A compilation of video clips shot on location by German ethnomusicologist Hans Brandeis during his research trips of 1997/98 and 2010/11.
The Blaan people live in a very large area that includes the provinces of South Cotabato, Sarangani and Davao del Sur. This also means that there are many regional and local variations in their boat lute music. Just compare the different designs of the boat lutes used in this video. The Blaan are actually the IP group with the greatest variety of different types of boat lutes in the Philippines. However, in general, their instruments show great similarities with the boat lutes of neighboring groups, specifically the Tboli, Ubo, Tagakaulo, Dulangan, Tasaday, and Blit Manobo. It appears that these ethnic groups represent one of the cultural clusters of particularly closely related groups in Mindanao.
