people keep pointing it out so to clarify blues clues is not “infamous” (i didn’t realize it meant exclusively being known for something bad) regardless it’s still pretty clear what i meant 👍
No, infamous being exclusively for being bad could be wrong too. Infamous could also just mean it did something controversial or exceptionally strange. Negative connotation, not negative definition. So, you were right the first time. Comments sections are just being toxic as usual...
My dad would always go “a-doodle-doodle-doodle” when writing something around us (me and my siblings), or drawing something. He passed away when I was 13 to pancreatic cancer. And it kept ringing in my head until I finally found where it came from, Blues Room, a few months ago. He was so perfectly silly, I love you dad. Edit: I’m 19 now, for context. :)
No that's exactly why I tried to watch it as a kid despite being like probably 8. Old enough to think I was a little too old to still watch it. I wasn't 4 anymore loved Blues Clues everything I got that year for Christmas. I was hoping for it to be something like the vibes of Kipper, or even Oswald, or Madeline. I was expecting a more chill show. based off of how pleasing it looked.
I so agree with the comment about the millennial and gen Z discourse. "I grew up with the GOOD Spongebob episodes" Uh yeah, we all did, they still air.
SAMEEEE I used to watch it at my grandma’s all the time growing up. I loved Blue’s Clues so much that I didn’t completely grow out of it until I was 8. A lot of that is due to Steve being such a damn good host: engaging, lively, outgoing, funny. Like, he knew how to talk to little kids without talking down to them. (Which isn’t as easy as it sounds)
Also thank you for pointing out that Gen Z shares a lot of experiences with Millennials/90s kids. I was born in 2001 and I didn’t even hold a smartphone in my hands for the first time until I went to middle school in the early 2010s. Heck, I grew up with a whole collection of VHS tapes. 😂
it’s PAINFULLY true 😭 saw someone say gen z has “never had a flip phone” but that was my first phone in 2nd grade. i mainly grew up on VHS tapes in the early years of my childhood as well!
And even then its just stupid to beef with a generation for being raised different anyway. Its like the whole boomers vs milennials thing but even dumber
I grew up with an older (still Gen Z) sister who, herself, was influenced by our many millennial cousins. We listened to music on both our iPad and boom box indiscriminately
I grew up with both Steve and Joe, since the Joe episodes aired on Nick Jr. in the mid-2000s and the Steve episodes aired on Noggin during the same time. I like both of them and I feel like they both brought something unique to the series.
I had the honor of meeting Steve’s Actor last year at my local comic con. He is truly the sweetest person I’ve ever met, he even took time to make a video with a person who was mentally and physically handicapped and NO ONE in that line minded to wait even though a lot of us had been waiting for 40 minutes or more. It was so nice.
I really hate when people try to Gatekeep Blues Clues from Gen Z because shocker I also grew up with Steve oh my gosh wow never before seen Honestly I grew up on anything Blues Clues, whether Steve or Joe were hosting or Blues Room I didn't care and loved all of it. Based on stories from my family I've been watching this show since I was a literal baby. It means so so so so much to me and I really hope I have a chance in the future to meat all the three hosts
As an older gen z (98) I remember Steve very well, but for some reason I definitely remember Joe way more. Older ppl forget media doesn't STOP just when they get older. Theres gen alpha who listen to the beatles.
@@princesspikachu3915 Man I have no concept of time because I think I had blue clues dvds with steve, which is why I remember him so much, but I definitely remember watching Joe on the actual tv. So that's probably why I feel like I grew up with both but just remember a more diverse amount of Joe and less reruns.
@@AJ.the_ray.j My kid is a Gen Alpha (2017) who loves the Beatles and of course Yellow Submarine. I wasn’t the one to introduce her either. She took a liking to them because they played them on the radio.
I literally screamed out loud "ITS BLUE TALKING ON VIDEO!" because i basically had those commercials memorized as a child from watching Nick Jr DVDs all day🤣. I do remember loving this show. The one i remember most is the one where Sprinkles is trying to sleep and we had to help them out.
SAME! My parents bought me Nick Jr dvds to watch on long road trips (we traveled quite a bit when I was younger) and those advertisements are forever in my memory because of that. In fact I cried out of nostalgia when I heard “And these other Blue’s Room titles! Now available on DVD and VHS!”
I swear I have more memories watching Blues Room and its 17 episodes than most of Blues Clues, (I vividly remember all the Joe seasons) but I recently been going through old Childhood DVDs and coming across that Blues Room DVD Commercial brought back so many memories 😭@@princessofweirdsville9000
Pam Arciero aka Oscar the Grouch's girlfriend Grungedetta was the lady who built the Blue's Room puppets. She still has them all! She has them up in her attic just in case they ever need them.
Literally one of my earliest memories is watching the episode Steve goes to college and having a complete meltdown and crying saying "I'm never going to college"😭☠️
As someone who watched the original Blue's Clues growing up, I rarely had the chance to watch Blue's Room. I was in 1st grade when Blue's Room premiered.
Just to be clear for those who are truly a Blue’s Clues fan, this episode is not quite consider the series finale of Blue’s Clues, since the setting still takes place in Blue’s Room (even if some characters from the OG series appearing in the special). Plus the Blue’s Clues logo doesn’t appear in any way.
Joe(Donovan Patton) later went on to voice Bot on Team Umizoomi, came back for the reboot Blue's Clues and You, and also is CatRat on Gabby's Dollhouse (which is made by the creators of Blue's Clues and has been or even more popular than that show).
As for Blue's Room - the problem was that Dora The Explorer was becoming Nick Jr's cash cow by the time Blue's Room debuted - pretty much ruining any chance of success - the same problem that is hurting Blues Clues & You, because of those certain pups from Canada that have basically taken over the Nick Jr. lineup.
I was born in 95, and I think it's absolutely fantastic that you got to watch one of the shows that I grew up with, and I'd personally never gatekeep someone enjoying something long after it's been off the air. If I ever have kids I'll definitely be showing them Blues Clues. If they don't like it, that's fair, but if they do I can personally attest to how much it has shaped my early years. I'm glad you got to experience it!
that came up in my research! i honestly couldn’t figure out if it was legit or not (sources weren’t cited) so i opted to not bring it up but apparently two fans made his design through a contest
@@lulaloopsey It was like a game where you built him and picked his color and if he had spots or stripes etc. Then they took the designs and picked the most popular from what I remember!
SAVE ME HOUR LONG VIDEO ESSAY ABOUT A REPRESSED PART OF MY CHILDHOOD, PLEASE TELL ME YOU TALK ABOUT THE BLUES ROOM PLUG AND PLAY IN THIS AS WELL, IF NOT THEN PLZ INCLUDE IT IN A PLUG AND PLAY VIDEO
btw at the beginning you said the show was "infamous" lol Infamy is specifically when something is well known specifically in a bad way, having a bad reputation. Blues clues is well known for being a hit among children. Steve's infamous last episode caused mayhem in preschools across the country lol
Those puppies definitely look huggable! I kinda need a plushie now. And I love you telling off the haters, people need to calm down in the comments sometimes lol
Those Blue’s Room advertisements made me feel like a sleeper agent. Haven’t seen them in probably 15 years but they’re gonna be stuck in my head for weeks now.
As someone who grew up in a period of time where you were frowned upon for liking Blue's Room, it makes me so happy to see this video. Blue's Room is such a good show and the way they handled the whole idea of Blue being able to talk was genius. I wish we had more behind the scenes info regarding this show cause I find it to be such a fascinating piece in Blue's Clues' history. If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend checking out some of the shorts they made, not the ones on the Blue's Clues TV show, the ones made for the Nick Jr block and Noggin. You can find them on a few DVDs, I think most of which have been uploaded to the Internet Archive. Thank you so much for what you do, and keep up the great work. It's honestly really cool seeing how far you have come. 💙
To add to your point about the holiday special, I'm also Gen Z and a bit older than you are and I remember a Blue's Clues holiday video tape where either Steve or Joe took Blue around the neighbourhood and visited Blue's friends celebrating different holidays like Kwanza or Chanukah, and Christmas too obviously, so these creators have always made it a point to highlight different holidays and I think that's delightful 😊 Side note, if you pay attention there's a lot of signing in the episodes of the regular seasons too I remember Steve even having a def friend at one point
As a boomer, i was around for the original host in the 90s. The series came out at a great and innocent time for children shows. Things were original and had intent of a message. Blues clues is multi-generational. Love what youre doing here! ❤
When I was 3-4ish I had a bunch of Max and Ruby and Backyardigans DVD'S I'll watch and I would rarely have a working remote for the DVD player (mostly I either lost it or had no batteries for it) and because of that I actually memorized the ads before the select screen and that's how I was able to know what DVD I was watching and I remember both seeing both of those Blues Room ads so that was already nostalgia for me
I mean there’s even a term called Zillelials for Millennials born 1995-1999 because stuff they like and such tend to overlap with Gen Z. (Which I am one of those Zillennials as I was born in 1999)
Amazing video! I grew up with Blue's Clues as a child. I remember I begged my mom for some blue's clues boys briefs when I was like 8 for my birthday. They were my lucky briefs 😂😂 Anyway where did you grab that hoodie? It's nice
this show was before my time (i was born in 2009) but i still had it on dvd and i would watch it like every day when i was little. i vaguely remember my favorite episode being that jungle one idk how to describe it it's been like 10+ years since i even thought of it.
MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD1!! i had the cd rom game growing up and I made little masks and did the printble activitys and MATEEEEE it was better imo.. 4 year old me would be so happy
I barely remember this series, like I THINK I saw it in my young years. I was AWARE of the original Blues Clues series at the time, and still am today, but never this "spin-off" series...
5:22 arguably the ONLY thing keeping my inner child alive and thriving is these 3 boys(yUP YOU TOO JOSH GET IN HERE BUDDY THERES ENOUGH LOVE TO GO AROUND) like to me(an only child) are like YEAH these guys and bros and cousins ABSOLUTELY
32:55 I also had an animal fixation when I was little, but for me it was penguins. I used to have a whole collection of penguin plushies and I had March of the Penguins on VHS. The first Happy Feet movie was released when I was 5, and a family friend bought me a stuffed Mumble toy, which I still have to this day.
Blue's Room was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. To me, see Blue talk was something I'd really loved to see, and my wish came true, and the puppets looked really well made as well!! 💙💙
One Of My Hyperfixations Besides The Owl House, Amphibia And SuperKitties Is BLUES CLUES!! Im SO Happy That Someone Talked About Blues Room, Because It’s So Underrated!
I actually prefer season two of 'Blue's Room' over season one simply because it was cool seeing Blue talk and interact with Joe. While the characters from 'Blue's Clues' were drawings and the human characters couldn't hug them, I liked seeing Joe hug Blue and Sprinkles! Also, I think that Joe deserves an Oscar for his role as the king who lost his dragons! That man was worried sick about his dragons because he loved them very much, but had no idea where they went. Sprinkles was so adorable too!
My first heartbreak was when Steve left and was replaced by Joe in 2002. I was 5 and can attest that every child was SHOOK. You could not talk to ANY kid with cable without them complaining that Joe aint sh!t.
OMG i remember watching the OG blue's clues growing up and blue's room had an insane hold on me for some time! i used to have a bunch of dvds and even dragged some of my family members to watch the baby brother special for a movie night probably multiple times lol. i think i actually saw a dvd at a dollar general once recent-ish but can't recall. great video! 💝
this show feels like a fever dream that only i remembered so it's nice to hear someone else acknowledge it lol. i remember i had a dvd for the show and i was obsessed with it as a kid i dunno if this makes any sense but it _feels_ like the kind of show that had a run of several years and was pretty popular, and yet it ran for 17 episodes and was really obscure
90's kids can be extremely toxic. I ain't gonna lie. Thankfully, I'm not one of them. Yes. I am a 90's kid, but I tend to not stick to my era in terms of shows I like. Yeah. I had an amazing childhood with shows like Bonkers, Pokemon, Goof Troop, House of Mouse and more. But I also grew up with re-runs of Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbera shows on Boomerang. Plus I like a lot of modern cartoons like The Loud House, OK KO and Craig of the Creek. Yeah. Being born in 1996 puts me on the border between millenial and gen Z. Kinda almost makes me like a bridge between the 2 generations in a way. Anyways, great video as always Lula :) Keep up the great work
i remember having one of the DVD things for it. it literally only had 3 episodes on it and i was scared by the Nick Jr 1999 logo back then so it eventually just went into the shelf with all my other DVDs. never to be seen again.
And what EXACTLY is bad about Blue being able to talk? HOW was this a failure?! A Blues Clues Spin-Off show Sounds like one of the greatest TV Show CONCEPTS known to man.
I love blue clues and I just realized by watching your video that I may of watched blues room or at least seen the ads of it on other nick preschool dvds that I owned or saw on tv
This show truly is timeless because I'm a late gen Z (born 2009) and I grew up with blues room and blues clues I had blues room on DVD and I watched it a lot when I was going to bed and blues clues I just watched a lot I don't know what I watched it on
Now when it came to Blue's room the sad thing about it with me was that it came out around the time when I had already outgrown Blue's Clues so this was around the time when I had started losing interest despite Still Loving the show regardless
Oh my gosh, this was such a nice nostalgia trip for me. I remember growing up, I had 2 VHS tapes of Blues Clues that I'd rewatch (Blue's Birthday episode, and an episode where Blue and Steve go on a treasure hunt). I think when Blues Room aired, I thought it wasn't my thing because I felt that her working with a human host was missing in Blues Room. Thank you for the video.
Blues Clues and Bear and the big blue house are my FAVORITE childhood shows. I have a blues clues collection, plushies, a backpack, wallet, I have MR.Salt, Mrs.pepper and paprika salt shakers (actual salt shakers), funko pop blues clues, hoodies, figurines, art, ect. 💙💙💙
puppets have always been my special interest but blues room and Sprinkles will always be special to me since that same year he arrived I got my own baby brother! I remember the activities made to hype up the episode, the little flash game of decorating a puppy to guess what he'd look like and coloring pages for it (I think the game is actually in the flash point archive) I was so excited. A bit disappointed when my baby brother wasnt also a rainbow puppy, but y'know. I think this show was the reason Joe was my favorite host, I would get irrationally angry when other kids dissed my boy lmao
I remember the INSAAANNEE amount of promo surrounding blues room. I never see people talk about it so its always felt like such a fever dream. i remember watching the pilot/first episode air live. pretty sure I recorded it on tape lol. there was a loooot of online content as well on nickjr's website
40:36 Oh my goodness!!! I can hear her!! Lol I LOVED both Blue's Room & The Sunny Side Up Show when I was little. SO much that I ended up having a dream where Blue & Sprinkles were guests on the Sunny Side Up show. It was AMAZING!!!
My 3 year old sister is obsessed with blue’s clues (she does NOT like Josh XD) she even had a blue’s clues birthday party! But she loves it and is adorable so I make sure to get her blue’s stuff when I can such as randomly spending my money to get her a doctor blue toy, she screamed when I handed it to her! Like this kids is so cute and will even try to bark like blue so I randomly hear her go “boaw boaw baboaw booaawww!” One of her favorite dresses is blue and magenta, and she has cups with them and rainbow puppy toppers! I hope everyone enjoyed me talking about my adorable sister!!!
Joe went on to work on the currently highly popular Netflix children’s show ‘Gabby’s dollhouse’. Joes real name is Donovan and he plays my daughter’s favourite gabby cat Catrat! It was such a blast from the past when I realized that he was that same person! ❤
20:40 they're also missing a few episodes of the original Blues Clues series like the 100th episode. 37:22 That's the best episode of Blue's Room along with Holiday Wishes. That all said as for my overall thoughts on the show I thought it was good. Didn't love it as much as Blues Clues (then again I had a little more merch for Clues than Room in terms of toys. The only toys I had from Room, were a boogie Woogie notebook; and a talking blue the latter of which I still have today although the batteries probably need to be replaced after not being in use for over 10 years.). As for my thoughts on why it failed I'd always assumed it failed because of low steam since the blues clues franchise had been going on for 10 years at that point. As for my favorite characters created specifically for blues room I'd have to say Sprinkles for season 2; and either Poka Dots or Silly Seat for season 1.
I'm a 22 almost 23 yo and I love so many things that millennials would be like "your too young to remember that or to like that" I love princess Bride, I love space balls, I love SpongeBob, I love older movies from the 70s 80s and 90s because my parents who are gen x took the time to introduce me to those things and I remember Steve from blues clues sorta... I have autism so it's hard to remember things from my childhood but I have this weird sense of nostalgia when I see Steve and I know I remember watching him I'm tired of people gatekeeping people's childhood memories because they want to act like they weren't born 30+ years ago
Does anyone remember the Blue's Puppy Maker flash game? It was a game you could play on the Nick Jr site, after it had been announced that Blue would be getting a baby brother but before Sprinkles was actually revealed. You could design your own version of her baby brother and submit it!
39:00 why do i want to CRY like i could NEVER have known at the time how much this would impact(i guess??) me because like it’s just all coming back to me this franchise is so wonderful 🥲
In my time with Blues Clues, while I probably did see some Joe episodes, I don’t remember watching any. I do however remember watching a couple episodes of Blues Room, and I remember the fact that I thought Joe was just Steve but with a new shirt and a different haircut. What a stupid child I was.
I watched this show in kindergarten and enjoyed it a lot! Blue's talking voice was very sweet and mellow. Roar E was cute too and I to this day I find myself singing "get ready and set let's go Blue is talking on video" - so catchy
Blue was huge for me as a semi verbal autistic and I’m kinda sad they gave her a voice, even though I understand why they did it. I also loved that she was blue yet still a girl, even if magenta is a pink girl and my parents gave my amab sibling blue and me (afab) magenta cuz genders. I also really loved green puppy being technically trans and desi from new-blue having they/them pronouns.
ngl I remembered nothing of Blue's Room aside from its basic premise until december last year where I was looking through an old case of DVDs looking for some random christmas specials to watch on my DVD Player and I found a DVD of Blue's Room, mostly watched it for shits n giggles but to be honest I'd be lying if I didn't say I was at the least charmed by the tone and the various activities the characters go through
Good video as always. But I personally feel like Nickelodeon didn’t give the show a chance. Blue’s Room wasn’t able to find its audience because season 1 had very little episodes plus the delay between each episode made it seem like a 1 off special and not an actual show. And by season 2. The fanbase wasn’t strong enough to carry a show for a third season because of the first season and the delays that stayed in the second season. So I feel like Nickelodeon didn’t give the show a chance originally and it ended up dying more quicker and losing more potential for the show.
