At first, I didn't get your problem with Albedo but you explained that one away pretty well and convinced me. The one I still don't understand your problem with is Sunny. She looks the same body wise because she is basing her human form on Gwen and she would have no reason to change it. In fact, she would be encouraged not to because she knows it irritates Gwen when someone that looks so much like her and is related to her wouldn't "get her" more. Sunny is the type of person that would find irritating Gwen to be the most hilarious thing ever. Also, Sunny's outfit is definitely opposing Gwen's. Sunny is wearing a tight purple t-shirt, black miniskirt and nearly thigh high heels. This suggests that she is a party girl that would bang the closest guy (or girl) she finds interesting. The opposite would be Gwen's outfit of a sweater, button down shirt beneath it, skirt, tights and loafers. This is the outfit of a girl that doesn't really party that much and would more likely be found in the library or at home studying for an upcoming assignment or test.
Yeah, tho some of his reasoning for Albedo is odd to say the least. A few of them like trying to be different from ben is good but only really works for hair and clothing but the bags under his eyes... I'm not so sure. The sunny stuff is 100%
Sunny's actually based on a character from Bewitched who's whole trope is that she looks like the mc, which is why her design is still just a copy-paste of Gwen in Omniverse, it's pretty expected for UA though considering every other design is a red and silver robot with a laser
@@ANIMATIONLOVERBT It really feels like a concept that has existed since forever. She looks identical to one of the main characters minus a palette swap. She is much better than the main character in her special skill. She has a rather antagonistic personality. There is a male equivalent to this but it is usually a stranger lookalike with a sycophantic personality. He usually dresses identically as the main character but doesn't actually look the same due to not being really related.
Love these redesigns, especially Cooper’s, whose UA design annoyed me the most, lol. Like, with Albedo and even Sunny I can kinda excuse their arguments for being pallet swaps of Ben and Gwen, but there was no reason for Cooper to suddenly turn into Kevin.
Albedo and Cooper rock. Sunny is a good design but I personally feel she would go for more of a Valley girl look and vibe. Like it’s clear they wanted Sunny to be a foil to Gwen as an Anodite, like how Charmcaster was a foil when her niche was magic. Charmcaster already feels close to the goth aesthetic, so I would take it another opposite extreme
I've mentioned that UAF is a good baseline build for a series after OG. If you were to take some aspects of the OG artstyle, like texture and minor details, it could help UAF's art style in the long run. Which I think you pulled off here in the video! 💚
I think the major issues with UAF style is the lack of the shines classic had and like the video said, lacks variety in face shapes and facial features
The only issue with the Albedo one is that on several occasions Albedo uses his appearance as ben to try to get one up on the team looking distinct would ruin that.
I like the idea of Cooper being muscular, but instead of something like Kevin Levin or a cartoon version of Chris Evans, he's muscular and bulky like Chris Pratt himself. It would make sense and it would be different.
Albedo still looks like Ben mixed with JT, Sunny looks like Gwen from Total Drama and Sam from Danny Phantom if she was taller, Cooper looks like Clyde Fife mixed with Rufus from Kim Possible.
An interesting experiment would be to redesign these characters while still using the UAF art style. While everyone does look similar in UAF, just adding a few distinguishing characteristics would’ve gone a long way to make them not clones instead of a full overhaul

I definitely agree that a lot of UAF needed work in its art direction. With the first couple seasons of AF, it was pretty fine, even felt like the OS a bit if you didn't think too hard about it. But then something went wrong, and it all went downhill. I'm almost convinced it was the studio execs pushing for more episodes faster (Ultimate Kevin didn't even get time to breathe, and the writers wanted to do that arc from the very beginning). So I think all of these redesigns are perfect... but then aside from Albedo, who was fine anyway, that bar is tremendously low. Another character I'd like to see a redesign of though is Kevin's AF mutant form. Something actually unique instead of a copy-paste of Metamorpho
Omniverse did well. They worked with the clone concept that was already there but didn't make him a 1/1 copy of Ben. He's flipped. Hair's different. And for the rest of his appearances, he has the UAF fit and then the classic fit. So that's as different as you can get.
As for Sunny, I don't think her OV design is as bad because it's only for a quick cameo, it basically respects what came before/makes fun of it and she actually has DETAILS because OV Gwen actually looked like a main character and not a background character.
I still think they should have made sunny ben's older sister (Oh but its a retcon) so is sunny's whole existence suddenly there is a third secret tennyson brother who never gets mentioned but making her Ben's older sister coulr also be used to explain why it was gwen and ben on the summer road trip saying that max did something similar with sunny and ken (Gwen's retcon brother who is weirdly mentioned once) when they were ten and then you can have sunny and albedo have a weird team up liking a version of her brother who isn't a goody two shoes and is more like her and her chaotic and crazed nature
With my take on Albedo, I'm taking an angle sort of based on how Omniverse stuck him as a preteen Ben after that fiasco with Azmuth's brain. As in I'd rewrite him to be envious of both Azmuth and Ben's successes, angry that he can barely make anything to surpass them before his spite towards his former teacher and some punk from Earth made his creative energies flow like the mighty Mississippi, hence why the Ultimatrix was created. Well, that and for profit since Vilgax figured if he couldn't get the Omnitrix or the guy who made it, he's gonna settle for Azmuth's disgruntled former assistant to give him the means to "unify" the cosmos under his gnarled thumb, and that evolution thing was something the little maggot threw in for kicks. In a way, Albedo is like Destroyman, an emotionally stunted/immature lunatic thinking he's the hero of his story when he's really the villain in Ben's, wrecking whatever he feels should've been his in the process, maybe even using Malware as a demented echo of Skurd in the process since it showed in Omniverse that Ben needed the Slimebiote's abilities to make himself equal to a Malware-powered Vilgax.
Cooper's really the only one that needs to be changed because Sonny makes sense because she's supposed to be a wild version of Gwen like if we just didn't care about anything. He's supposed to look like being that is literally the whole point of his character. The only one that you really got claimed to is Cooper. Like I get what you're saying and I like to redesigns but I'm just saying but those two it just makes sense why they look like Ben and Gwen. And Cooper thank God you changed his ass cuz it didn't make no sense for him to have this magical growth spurt and he looks like Kevin no absolutely not if you want to do that you might as well have brought an alternate version of Kevin or a evil clone of Kevin.
I love all three of these redesigns so much! vast improvements to the original designs, as much I like UAF I agree that the art style of that era was not good as the original series, great video! :D
could be wrong, but isn't the most likely reason for the reuse of base character models being that they were airing weekly and didn't have the time to introduce new characters with new models (especially if they were less important in the story, like cooper is there for a whole two episodes near the end of season 1 or 2 idr which one. He very much is a guest star, not a main character. Even then it's quicker to mock up one model for everyone than 20.)

Maybe albedo could be a sicker looking ben ,hes white hair is genetic damage if i remember correctly,also as you said hes been either on the streets or in prison

My man you really cooked with those designs! Both Albedo and Cooper are great improvements. The evil Gwen i just forgot her name at this point, anything you do with her will be better
I can excuse Albedo since he meshed with Ben's DNA, makes sense he'd look kinda clone-ish but I wouldn't mind small changes still, especially the clothes, he can't just wear the same pair of jeans and jacked, even when Ben transforms his clothes shift in a way to fit him and said alien (unless the aliens are naked). However I ain't excusing Sunny cause what the F? How good are them genes that you manage to have a cousin that looks like your twin? First time seeing her I thought she was some fan's traced oc from a deviantart, literally. Cooper was just lazy, straight up, das a blonde Kevin.
These go hard dude. Love me some UAF content in [Current Year]. A lot of UAF slaps, but there's definitely parts of it that didn't get the love it could have. The art is unfortunately one of them.
I personally do not mind Albedo looking like Ben since that's the entire point: he's trapped in Ben form. It makes sense for him to be a literal clone. Though I'll admit you had interesting ideas to make him distinct. ... I can't deny it was a problem for Cooper and Sunny though.

People who have nostalgia for the 2000's battle me to no end. It was like a gas leak decade where everyone lost about 10 IQ points and developed terminal shit taste. I would argue it was just as bad as the 2020's but everyone was sleepwalking through life so no one noticed how terrible everything was.

Take winx club, i love that show but it has a lot of problems, and it's getting a reboot next year and i think it REALLY needs. People act like the things that were our childhood is exempt from criticism and that anything new is always bad.

It's functional for what it was designed for: to be consumed in thirty minute doses once or twice a week in an era when your TV having a pause button was a luxury. But it's also the sort of thing where the more you look at it, the more you realize how much of a downgrade it is from Ben 10 classic.

I mean you need to understand that the reason Sunny looks like Gwen was because there was a witch show and the main character played her “evil twin” so it was supposed to be a reference to that, and with Cooper if you ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT IT if he wants to receive Gwen’s “love” than no shit he would try and make himself look more like Kevin, so calling it lazy or a failure without bringing up any of the FACTS and just you’re personal opinion and the show literally EXPLAINS WHY Albedo looks like Ben so…

I do feel like you made the characters look more like omnivores, I think you lost some of the justice league style, might be a good reference for future redesigns.
