Can pastors lift people out of wheelchairs and heal the disabled? Can preachers and evangelists heal those who are crippled? Or is the rise and walk miracle the faith healers biggest scam? If this popular trick isn't an amazing miracle then what's really happening? If it's not a miraculous healing then how these people rising out of wheelchairs and running around the church? In this video we'll analyze footage from Benny Hinn, Billy Burke, Reinhard Bonnke, John Mellor, W.V. Grant, Jack Coe, and other faith healing preachers through a scientific lens. We'll explore their healing revivals and get a bigger picture to see what happens when the disabled people are followed up with afterwards. And we'll determine once and for all if the Rise and Walk miracle is truly miraculous or one giant con.

As a small child who was raised in a pentacostal church with a chronic disease (not fatal, but painful and debilitating) there's nothing more soul destroying than having the whole congregation press their sweaty palms into your body and hoot and holler and shriek and roll on the floor week after week, and month after month until they slowly stop trying and implicitly let you know that your lack of healing is somehow your fault. My faith was already faltering, but even back then, I realized that "God's healings" only happened for things that could heal on their own anyway. Not for me though, and not for my friend in the wheelchair either. Now, decades later, my mother still props up her faith by claiming that "prayer works". She doesn't even seem to grasp how insulting saying something like that to someone like me is. These people are delusional and they make me sick.
@yehmen29
@yehmen29 Год назад
I can put myself in your shoes. My mother was both a Muenchhausen and a Muenchhausen by Proxy and tried to have me diagnosed with leukaemia, a brain tumour, kidney failure, and MS, in order to get people's sympathy. She was also a Roman Catholic (she nearly became a nun) and we were at church all the time. The priest, some of her friends, and herself, ganged up on me, threatening me with a painful and early death if I didn't agree to become a nun. She initially would give me 1-2 years less to live, which became 'You won't make it past 25' when I turned 18. It made it really difficult for me to believe that I really had cancer when I was eventually diagnosed with cancer. My mother, the priest, and the congregation would also use the fact that other people, or their children, had been diagnosed with cancer and/or were terminally ill, and/or had died in car accidents, to 'rope them in', i.e. try to get them to convert to Roman Catholicism. That included visits to hospices. This is still going on today, I regularly check what's happening in that industry as I am living with cancer (I plan to get euthanasia when things go bad) and as one lady puts it:'They promise their patients 'a good death experience', but my mother refused to convert, so what she got was 'the bad death experience'' , i.e. they refuse to give patients pain relief until theyve agreed to see a priest, confess, get baptised etc. Since my diagnosis I've been bombarded with advice that if I converted (not just to Roman CAtholicism but also to Islam and to Anglicanism) God would make 'The Cancer' go away... My mother and her group also had prayer groups (rosary sessions), not just to pray for people to get well, but also to pray for 'evil people', like left wing politicians, to get cancer, die prematurely etc. When it was revealed that President Mitterrand had cancer (he'd been having treatment for it in secret for a decade, while being president), it was the proof for them that 'prayer works'! Ffffff.... As you say, these people are completely delusional. What is worse is that some of them are doctors. As a result, when I choose a doctor, I always enquire about whether they believe in God or not.
@samuelschick8813
@samuelschick8813 Год назад
@andy, Had a debate with a fundy who said prayer heals and she had seen it first hand. Her claim was she had family members on deaths doorstep, passing at any moment, that close. She said they held prayer circle and the family member was instantly healed. Her: " Prayer works, prayer heals. I have seen it first hand on several occasions." Me: " And what do you do after the prayer circles and the person does not get better?" Her: " We take them to the hospital and hold prayer circles in their hospital room." Me: " And what if the person does?" Her: " Everyone in the room has to have faith. If just one person does not then prayer will not work." Me: " So in other words if there are 20 people in the room and just one does not believe, God sides with the atheist and not his followers." Her: " You just want to sin and you are going to Hell for mocking the Lord." I do have a humorous personal story about prayer circles held over me. Might be a little long so on request.

I quit going to church for a lot of reasons, but being blamed for failed healings for my chronic health issues is one of them. My church group was so supportive at first, but over time they started to suspect my lack of faith was the problem. The sad thing is that at first I KNEW beyond all doubt that I would be healed, and was not discouraged at all by multiple failed healings, because it was definitely going to happen any day. Then it began to be suggested that I had un-confessed sin in my life, or a lack of faith. I prayed with all my might, confessed anything that might look like a sin if you squinted at it hard enough, and asked God to reveal to me any hidden sin I might not even know about so I could confess it and beg forgiveness. Then they accused me of not forgiving people in my life that I had already forgiven (rough childhood) and I went to a special Christian therapy session to learn how to do the thing I had already done. Eventually it was settled on by others that it was for sure my own lack of faith that was the problem. After a few years of being told I lacked faith over and over again it did finally put a crack in my faith, and caused it to crumble completely. It took them a long time to wear me down though. I lost all of my friends and quit going to church or any events related to it because the people who were my church "family" had turned on me.

I used to go to a church where guest healers would come and “heal” people. The people who got healed were always people I’d never seen in the church before, and never saw again after those services. Women in wheelchairs are hard to miss in a church because they have to sit in the aisles. So I noticed these women in wheelchairs who suddenly showed up, got healed and disappeared. Meanwhile, people I knew who were paralyzed or had cancer never got healed. I was just a little kid when I noticed this and wondered why all the adults didn’t. I stopped going to church when I was 18.

This is a very old psychological pattern that's not restricted to Christianity. The Roman historian Tacitus tells us about two faith healings worked by the emperor Vespasian in 69 CE. Two people, one blind, one with a crippled hand, asked the emperor to spit on their eyes or tread on their hand, respectively. The emperor was kind of embarrassed, laughed at it and didn't want to. But the crowd and the two man kept begging and insisting. Vespasian consulted the physicians whether such a healing was even possible. They said that in both cases, all hope was not lost and a healing was not unthinkable. He was worried about losing face in case the people were not healed. But he was assured that if he succeeded, this could only increase his reputation, if he didn't, it would be the two sick men who would be mocked and laughed at - not him. So he did as he was told, and both men allegedly recovered. There's a clear pattern behind all this: 1. The expectation to be healed is crucial for the success. 2. The healer needs to be a person of authority and charisma for people to believe that he can work such a miracle. 3. Not the "healer" is blamed for a failure, but the victim. This pattern goes across faith systems all over the world, not only in organized religions, but also in other belief systems like new age and cults.

That is what I tell believers in the last time. That, when they take the positives of hope and compassion and tolerance from their belief in God, then I am OK with it, but would they be not way better suited that when they see other self-proclaimed "christians" ABUSE their God for their selfish purposes, should THEY as christians not go vehemently against these people? Same is of course the case with e.g. peaceful muslims tolerating islamic terrorists or radical imams being horrendously cruel in their fundamentalism. Just as I go against Satanism, because it is for me the epitome of doing EXACTLY the opposite of what you claim you want to achieve. Satanism has a nice set of sensible general rules for life, fine. The people SAY they want to be tolerant. They SAY that they do not want to provoke. They SAY that they have no god. They SAY that it is no religion. They say they are atheists. And then they go and call their movement after a figure of the Bible that has at least almost god-like qualities, is sometimes even more powerful than the omnipotent God. They use this name ONLY because they want to provoke christians. They declare priests and create rituals, hold ceremonies, do everything symbolic that aligns with the rituals of religion. So they do everything to pave the way for religious people to declare that atheism is also a religion, is also a belief. And it is funny, when you tell satanists that they go whining "why don't you leave us in peace, we just want to have fun". No issue with having fun, but you can do that with minimal modifications in a way that is NOT the opposite of what you declare you want to be.

A woman who lived in my hometown had a son who had severe physical deformities because of a disability he was born with. She could be seen pushing him around town in his wheelchair almost everyday. He looked like a younger version of the late Dr. Steven Hawking as he was unable to use his limbs and couldn't even lift his own head. His mother told the story to some local journalists, of how she took her son to a famous faith healer in The United States. According to her, they attended one of his events, one night and were told by the faith healers helpers to wait backstage until they were called. She and her son were never summoned. The explanation given to her by one of the helpers was, time had run out and they had to close the event on schedule, so, the healer wouldn't be doing any more healing that night. She said she was crushed because she could barely afford the plane tickets she purchased for the two of them to travel both ways and she had to return home without results. It's been quite a few years now since the last time mother and son were seen in public. Sadly, I guess the boy must've died not too long after that colossal disappointment.

I wish I could find the video or remember the title. But a few years back I watched a video a Christian missionary in the Philippines made. In the video he shows himself traveling to a remote village in the mountains, modes of transportation and how long it took him to reach the village. He goes on to say how the village is very, very poor and he is going to bring the Lord to the people. So he's in the village and the kids are wearing worn out clothes, houses are made out of bamboo and nipa, adults are wearing worn out clothes, no running water, etc,etc,etc. So he gathers the villagers around and starts preaching the word. At the end he starts to pass the hat telling the villagers God needs money to help spread his word and save souls. The village elders tell him they are a poor village and can barely feed their children, they point out the tattered clothes everyone is wearing and they have nothing to give. The missionary tells that they need to give as much as they can, what ever they give God will return 100x more. Yes, he walked off with their money and bragging how he handed out about 6 T shirts.

I was raised Pentecostal. Another thing I would add, is that the pastors act as if they have special spiritual insight. They will make a broad term like “God just spoke to me: there’s somebody struggling with alcoholism tonight. Come forward and receive your healing”. The church will all speak in tongues and all the malarkey. What I find interesting is the Bible says not to speak in tongues without an interpreter. I’ve brought this up to my parents many times and they just don’t care at all and dismiss it. I’ve been deconstructing lately. I no longer consider myself a Christian. It’s gonna be very difficult to tell my parents. But Pentecostals are the worst of them all. And they all completely have blinders on. They don’t even follow what the Bible says. God is good, God does help, He can do more than you can ever know, get to know Him. Jesus who is the one and only true God and Creator came to earth 2000+ years ago to go to the cross to pay our sin debt in full. His sacrifice was sufficient to pay the penalty for the sins of the world (1 John 2:2). A created being could not pay the infinite penalty required for sin against an infinite God. Only God could pay such an infinite penalty. Only God could take on the sins of the world (2 Corinthians 5:21), die, and be resurrected, proving His victory over sin and death and that true and only God is JESUS! And He did all that because He loves us and wants to save us and have a relationship with us. JESUS is the only way to Heaven, only He can save us from sin and from hell ( Luke 5:32, John 14, Romans 6:23). Jesus is waiting for you to come to Him, He won't cast you away from Himself if you come to Him. He calls us all to repentance, He loves us and wants to save us. believe and have faith in God then the Holy Spirit will come in and lead you to repent of your sins and God will forgive you of your sins and cleanse you by the blood of Jesus and you'll get born again by His Holy Spirit and have His salvation, you will become a new creation (John 3:3-19). I’ve got a few clients with a tendency to self induce some form of paralysis or epilepsy. I can “heal” them just by “over talking” their mental issues. I basically tell them to stop it and get up. I must have that magical divine power. Edit. I could provide you with a bank account number, every donation over 100€ will definitely make you feel better. If anything you might learn not to be gullible.

Doctors can trigger these in patients, without eve wanting to. I have a lingering pain in my leg, it has been there for years. I went to a doctor who prescribed me some injections...that did nothing. But he kept insisting, whether I was sure I didn't feel better...to the point I felt compelled to say I kinda did. I didn't. Part of what we see here, is probably that. The person is surrounded by a crowd, on top of someone who is very, very eager for them to play along. So the person does just that. At that point, saying they feel the same would disapppoint everyone.

My mother uses a wheelchair because she has an autoimmune disease that comes in waves/flare ups/exacerbations and in between them she does her best to remobilize herself again to stay independent as long as possible by using her wheelchair as a rollator. Otherwise she cant walk more than a few yards without any aid and uses the wheelchair for long distances. Seeing her "walk and pushing her wheelchair in front of her" made mean spirited people comment that shes faking it several times.

A simple way to tell if a healer is fake. They ask for money. Meanwhile those of us that actually do heal people would never think about asking for money and do our healing in private. Thanks for exposing these scammers.

The guy at 4:07 is tragic. It's bad enough the poor soul is paralyzed, but to have some slime ball give him the false hope of walking again is the worst. A 9.9 on the Sin-O-Meter. These people are desperately grasping at straws and to capitalize on that is despicable.

My Father-in-law was a pastor. He truly believed in the ability of faith healing. My Mother-in-law suffers from a disease that has not been successfully healed in over 30 years. He had a traveling evangelist come by for revival one week. A lady who was in a cast walking on crutches got “healed” that night. She was walking around hands in the air celebrating her healing. The next week she was in a wheelchair. I never saw her out of that chair again.

When I was a small chid, A man(I think he was a pastor)prayed for me, and then commanded me to walk. I was born with cerebral palsy, and have never been able to walk. At that young age, I couldn’t bring myself to attempt to stand after he commanded it. I used to think back on the experience and blame myself for not having enough faith to do it. I remember being scared when the man told me to walk. I think even at that young age, miracles kind of scared me. Also, I felt “put on the spot” because this was done in front of people who made a circle around me, and they wanted me to do it. We weren’t even at a church. It happened at a relative’s home. I’m not even sure how he found out that I couldn’t walk.

The little girl/teen Grace, who had curvature of the joints reminds me of myself. I injured my back when I was 8 (found out in my 30's that it was a ruptured disc) and my parents are faith healers, so they never took me to the doctor, instead telling me that if God didn't heal me, it was either because my faith wasn't strong enough, I wasn't "right with god" or God was teaching me empathy. It really messed with my self-esteem, knowing I somehow didn't deserve to be healed. My mom watched Benny Hihn twice a day, as well as having Trinity Broadcasting Network playing all day every day. She prayed with every preacher that she would be healed. I prayed with Benny every day, and as many of the other preachers as she let me (she thought I was being dramatic because a chiropractor that gave me a scoliosis test when I was 13 said that the symptoms I told her sounded like a pulled muscle. She also said I didn't have scoliosis, which I did & do) so I often was expected to keep my siblings quiet & prevent them from distracting her, and keep the house running smoothly, so she could concentrate on being healed. I truly believe that faith healing as it is in our society, causes great harm, and does little, or no good.

That sucks so much; I'm sorry to hear what you went through. It does ask the question though... all those who are told to wait and pray, instead of getting help, how much life have these vultures taken from such people? How many lives could have had a normal experience had they been allowed to seek help, instead of living with chronic pain? It's why i cannot view faith healers as folks just doing what they believe, but an actual evil in our world.

I use to go to a Pentecostal church. Pentecostal church are big on faith healing. One Sunday morning an evangelist (a traveling pastor who doesn’t have a home church) had people come up to be prayed for. An elderly woman walking with a cane went up to get prayer. The evangelist prayed, grabbed her cane and ran across the church claiming she could walk without her cane leaving that poor woman to find the nearest seat before she fell down. Thank God there was an empty seat a few feet away. That was the beginning of the end of going to church. A while later I went to a conference at a major arena with Reinhardt Bonnke was the evangelist. He started out the service by claiming he brought back to life a man who died and was embalmed. I was done with organized religion after that.
