On 12 January 1965 the band made their first in-person appearance on US television on the first episode of NBC's and played "She's Not There" and their new single "Tell Her No" to a screaming, hysterical audience full of teenage girls.
This actually was done before the zombies by Phil Spector with girl singer groups. They would have a different girl group on the East Coast and a different group on the West Coast named the same but released separate records. I’m not quite sure what he was trying to do but I think he did it was several groups.
Frank Beard and Dusty Hill were in the band American Blues and Bully Gibbons was in The Moving Sidewalks. Members from Moving sidewalks got drafted and Billy started a new group ZZ Top with Dan Mitchell and Lanier Greig. After recording salt lick they replaced Greig with Billy Etheridge and Mitchell was replaced with Frank Beard, Etheridge refused to sign a contract and quit. He was then replaced with Dusty Hill
I know the Zombies well but I didn't know the ZZ Top part. I still have Odessey and Oracle on vinyl (have had it since the 70's). Enjoyed your expose with Supasly75.
The record companies didn't make the fake Zombies. That was some opportunists over in the USA. There was also a a fake Fleetwood Mac after Peter Green left the first version.
I did not know that after listening to rock and roll since the Beatles…that was a great story and I did actually buy the 45 in a store on Long Island long since gone
Someone should compile a list of all the fake bands that record companies fielded to push record sales. Another one was Fleetwood Mac. Also non-existent bands like The Archies.
So, the two Zombies from the second Zombies band started a band with a guy named Hill, so naturally that equals ZZ Top because ZZ Hill doesn’t have the same ring to it. Now you know.
I love “ Time of the Season!” I thought they were a real band !! lol !! I think they were on American Bandstand ??!! They must have been lip syncing ! Wow !! How interesting !! Just like Milli Vanilli !
I like your clips, but ive found myself skipping some of them when you seem to jump around with no logical connection for too long. this one was perfect. Just my 2 cents. keep up the good work
