On the 76th anniversary of the day the Falaise gap was closed, this is the second of three shows commemorating the final major battle of the Normandy campaign.
We will stream live from the town centre. On August 15th 1944 about fifty young fanatics of the 12th SS Panzer-Division Hitlerjugend, took refuge in the girls’ school and held out against Canadian troops of Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal. We will also look at the bullet and shrapnel damaged church.
Joining me to explain the action is British battlefield guide and author Sean Claxton www.normandyinsight.com/

This episode is an eye-opener yet again. Well done for bringing this early aspect of the Falaise action to the attention of WWII 'students'.

Excellent show on the Falaise Gap; the live video by Duncan and Mag really helped to understand the terrain, esp. when compared w/ the b/w photos from the war. Paul has a way of making history come alive and this show is no exception. It's also nice to have a virtual tour of the area as it's the next best thing to actually being there & in some ways it's better because it's easier to grab onto the information.

Well done chaps; great show. The civilian museum was closed when I was in Falaise in ‘16; will make it there post-COVID for sure.

In 2022, I spend a day in Falaise with my son who is going to be history teacher. We went on la rue du Lcol Ménard and went to se the church. Two landmark of Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal. I was the RSM of that Regiment 3 years ago. Very very interesting day. Yes, we went to the castle.

Hi Paul and team, Thanks for that touching video about Falaise.Native of the town and 19 years old at the begining of the bombing. You gave us an emotional shot of what was her former school before its total destruction. My farther was a French tanker serving with the 7th Royal Tank Regiment, 'A' squadron Desert Rats.My mother met her future husband in Martigny where she was sheltering. My father made it through from St. Gabriel to Bremen near Hamburg. Sorry for the long story but I don't know much about his parcours, only know he was invoved in the liberation of Cheux and the battle of Hill 112,a subject he did not want to talk about. Its not easy to say which Operations he was involved in as the Churchill's,as you know, were in infantry support, Thanks once again.

I was always under the impression that German's retreat out of *_The Gap_* was pretty effetive. But reading into that moment and what followed I'm see commentary to the opposite, that many on that side felt they were just sliding into _"the void"_ as they pulled away towards _the FatherLand._ Started as effective then devolved into something more chaotic?

Seeing that castle, has made me wonder did the Germans ever hold that castle? If they did, could that of been a French monty Cassino? Absolutely brilliant 👍👍

Fantastic trilogy stream in the Falaise gap - had a healthy overview of what happened - but this takes it to another level for me. When watching i followed google maps myself - unfortunately could not go down the track to the Moissey ford - only down the main road alongside. Did the Germans use this main bridge at Moissey (not just the ford) or was this blocked?

There is no bridge at Moissy. There is a bridge in Saint Lambert and one at Chambois, but Moissy hust has the ford

@@WW2TV on google maps it shows the same water (as the ford) running under the main road - albeit more of a stream with barriers either side at that point on the main road. But it a very small stream looking at it. Anyway did the Germans use this main road - parallel to the ford - or perhaps this wasnt built at that time perhaps? (1944).

Sorry you didn't have enough coffee when you did this mess? I gave up 17 minutes in. I'm sure the divisions of military analysts/historians in the UK waitng to excuse Montgomery's errors will be able to make up your casualty loss here? Disliked.

With 800 shows and many different historians, we don't expect all the viewers to like everything we do. Some historians admire Monty, some don't, as with many of the leaders
