The Fall, published by Albert Camus in 1956, is a novel about the contradictions and the way modern man is forced to see his own selfishness and helplessness step by step.Jean-Baptiste Clamence, a respected Parisian lawyer, defender of noble causes and womanizer, recalls his past in a seedy bar in Amsterdam.
Albert Camus, who observed people very well, included his observations in this work as well. Many names from the literary community agree that he is the hero. He intelligently addresses the bourgeoisie and what they do in this work. He questions a lot. In fact, he seems to write about what he sees, but he sharply shows the contradiction and artificiality beneath the visible in every sentence. The hero is actually alone. He almost never dwells on the sadness of not being able to stop the girl from jumping off the bridge. But he puts this thoughtlessness in such a place that he seems to want to emphasize that he has never forgotten that moment in his life.
