Koraidon: I won’t let him win Groudon: I won’t let him win Rayquaza: I won’t let him win Gastrodon: I won’t let him win Dialga: I won’t let him win Kyogre: Nah I think I’ll win
I feel like it's more likely that Miraidon will be an amazing partner for Kyogre rather than an adversary. Rain and Hadron Engine seems like a devastating combo. Miraidon is the same speed as koraidon and is more poised to threaten it with tera. Both kyogre and Miraidon also get stronger Thunders for each other (although miraidon might not be required to run it since electro drift is a thing). Pair that with tornadus and you have a terrifying team archetype in front of you
I feel like its about to be rain terrain spam (it rolls of the tongue get over it lol) electric spam gets stopped mostly by ground/grass, but ground and grass are stopped by Ogre Torn tbh
@wt1664 and the occasional icy wind and ice beam. I would love to see these fantastic 3 cause havoc to be honest. Especially with Torn in how the rain will never be over lol. Plus it counters waterpon. If it stays normal, it's bleakwind time. If it Teras, it's Thunderin time.
@@akshayreddy4071 yep, exactly what I mean. If you find a good way to get rid of raging bolt Kyogre with choice specs, tera-water, water spout is an instakill
@@marceloasensiofilho3833 I'd rather deal with kyogre every game than an incineroar ngl, incineroar is basically gonna be a forced Tera in restricted formats. I'm guessing maybe wellspring is gonna be the best kyogre counter? Can't be forced off the field as easily as raging bolt can
@@marceloasensiofilho3833 uhh something like... Koraidon? Yeah this pairing is gonna be devastating. Koraidon doesn't care about Thunderclaps and probably ohkos bolt with Draco, and it destroys wellspring+ gives kyogre the thunder option for wellspring. Gonna need to bring back base ogerpon to fight this trio Edit: miraidon not koraidon*
Miraidon is basically the new Kyogre in singles, but I don't think it has a strong spread move. They could work _together_ and spam Thunder. But yeah Kyogre will likely adapt.
This generation sun has really good abusers, especially paradox mons who are ridiculously good without the sun Rain abusers will struggle a lot if their preferred weather isn't in their control Meanwhile in the case of sun abusers(past paradox mons) they will do well regardless of which weather is active Positioning will be extremely hard for rain teams
Oh also remember the electric terrain abusers, those will quite literally be not fun to face for Kyogre. And I doubt you'd be using a choice scarf set in doubles.
@@gamedominatorxennongdm7956 What do you mean? Choice Scarf Kyogre is super popular in VGC, it saw multiple top placements in SwSh, even sometimes in Tailwind teams to out speed other Tailwind teams.
@@Endershock1678 Well Kyogre has a base 90 speed, meanwhile many paradox mons have within a base 100 speed stat, tailwind? yeah better pray they didn't bring raging bolt to thunder clap your ass, or hope they didn't switch into a Koraidon to neuter your weather boost.
@@gamedominatorxennongdm7956 I agree, with the dominance of sun, and strong electric types, i could see a more defensive kyogre prevail, playing a supporting role.
Heres the thing about ogre being countered by koraidon. Bro has a weakness to kyogre's favorite buddy tornadus and its favorite move is a spread move with 100 accuracy in rain. Ogerpon also has that weakness plus kyogre always has the option for tera electric thunders against ogerpon wellspring.
fyi you can always use Neutralizing Gas Weezing AFTER Kyogre enters the battle so that you can hit Water Absorb/Storm Drain 'mons. My theorycrafting is actually using Weezing+Ninetails backup both to counter Ogerpon and set up a secondary specs Blizzard mode. Also, Tera Grass Kyogre. That is all.
The sad part is that Mewtwo isn't even anywhere close to being a bad pokemon. I mean come on 154 special attack and 130 speed is still really fucking strong its just that Calyrex-Shadow is a giant threat and Psychic just not being a good type unlike before so its really unfortunate.
This is feeling like when everyone said incineroar was going to fall off. Yes there are a lot of new options, but at the same time, kyogre is going to do what kyogre does. It may take some time for it to find its place, but I’m sure it’ll definitely have one. Keep in mind that rain teams have been using PELIPPER for rain to somewhat solid success. I’m interested to see where kyogre goes from here. I know I’m not excited to see things like Tera water mystic water helping hand kyogre 1 shot raging bolt or using a defensive Tera grass calm mind kyogre to beat your otherwise bad matchups (wellspring, raging bolt, rillaboom, etc.). I’m very excited to see where this goes. Plus I think ogrepon is going to be a great partner to team with kyogre and make it that much more of a headache to deal with
With Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Koraidon, Miraidon, Torkoal, Pelliper, (maybe) Paradox mons, etc. theres a chance that this gen might become a Weather/Terrain war for a bunch of the restricted format battles. Could be cool to see.👀
yeah... you are overseeing a lot of potential partners that Kyogre has in hand like Alolan Ninetales, Raichu, Raging Bolt, Incineroar, Rillaboom... and if they return, Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini
something that most people dont know and that would nerf kyogre too is that miraidon and koraidon both get a 50% stat boost to their best offense in under their respective weather/terrain
man, I was having some of these thoughts but thought, nah maybe im just being a prisoner of the prediction. I feel convinced and vindicated after this lol
I used scarf kyogre in vgc 16 (while everyone used primal lol) To get second place at the ecc Arnhem regionals. I combined scarf kyogre with talon for Flying and Fire coverage and having also tw additionally with quick guard to counter priority moves. I think kyogre has a harder time now but there will be definitely teams with certain counterplay To remove the biggest problems for kyogre allowing it to sweep like I did in the past with talonflame
I think its still gona be good, but its probably going to be its weakest year. A lot of the common pokeomn now will probably have their viability changed in some way. Can raging bolt continue to be good when a good half of the viable restricted pokemon threaten it with stab super effective damage? Will ogerpon-w be as good when more viable pokemon speed past it and the powerful legendaries can make its bulk less useul for redirection? Maybe they can, maybe they can't, we'll only know when the time comes (also, i feel its interesting that the new legendaries pokemon benefit sun a lot more, chi-yu really doesn't like being in rain but loves the sun, any protosynthesis mon like flutter mane and also stuff like ogerpon-h becoming absolute monsters in sun )
My guess is that kyogre is weaker than it’s been previously, but you might be overselling how much it’s going to fall off. Drizzle is an incredibly strong ability, thunder and ice beam hit a lot of these potential counters super effectively (imo they are bad matchups but it’s far from a free switch in), and kyogre is still going to have a lot of good matchups too. Kyogre could probably also use Terra to get around some of its checks, or just terra water to do even more damage with its stab. It might become more niche than it used to be, but I don’t see it falling out completely. It’s still kyogre, and I just can’t see a way this monster falls in to obscurity. Maybe I’m wrong though, crazier things have happened before in competitive.
I can see when mega come back. The origin forms will come back as well maybe in generation 10 he’ll be good again if they have Megas in that with legends ZA
I've seen some speculation of a Blizzard Kyogre being supported by A.Ninetails, I think Kyogre may need to rely on other strengths to excel, but it's not the end of it yet
Weather and Terrain Doesn't affect each other. I wouldn't be surprised to see koraidon and miraidon + the other pokemon from this video on the same team. Then it's all over for Kyogre
I mean, yeah there's more counterplay to Kyogre now, but it is still the only pokemon that can throw spread nukes by itself and without any setup. Expanding Force needs psychic terrain, goldengo and terapagos need a previous boost, Kyogre can just enter and hit the nuke button, so you can use the other slot to counter the counters to the but fish, follow me against priority, lightning rod for those electric types, or just any form of speed control to combat the opponent's, same as with urchufu, even if there's hyper specific counter is still valuable as just a nuke button
At least in 6v6 singles (idk too much about double singles on top) kyogre is still really good Pokémon. Teammates like basculegeon or archaludon or any steel type really appreciate rain. And a nuke is still a nuke it just takes more brain power to use kyogre now and you have to click more than just waterspout.
Valid assumptions we'll have to see if kyogre's gameplan is able to adapt and not rely on water spout anymore. Kyogre can totally be a threatening pokemon without needing water spout.
I agree with kyogre getting nerfed hard this gen. Though i think it will still have a place on balance teams with perhaps a calm mind set and propper support.
I agree with the comment section. Kyogre wont be used because of its power. Rather because of its weather setting abilities plus its powers. Sure koraidon can counter it, but it can also inhibit koraidon. Pelipper might have a nieche as a tailwind wide guard user. But all in all kyogre will likely be the better choice.
Btw Assault vest Kyogre is so insanely bulky, thunderclap doesn’t even make a dent. Yeah it dies to Miraidon but other than that you need something crazy. Like a choice specs terrain boosted rising voltage from Raging Bolt. But anyway - l cant wait to play against Tornogre, will absolutely destroy it with my plans 😏
I think what this video ignores is that Kyogre didn't just get a lot of new checks to it, it also gained a whole lot of great partner Pokemon. I have no clue how this will turn out, it will be very interesting to see, but I wouldn't count out Kyogre just yet.
Not to mention Kyogre profits an insane amount off of a defensive Tera as well, being a kinda perfect answer to a lot of the checks you have talked about.
I find it interesting to hear that Koraidon will beat out kyogre. And there is an argument there. But the format is also hostile to Koraidon with Flutter Mane. Opposing flutters will have the potential for speed boost under sun. You can Fire, Poison, or Steel tera, but then you are more vulnerable to Kyogre. I could be wrong, but I don't think that there is a type that resists both fairy and Water. Also I think Waterpon solves the spouting problem, but it doesn't solve the Torn problem. Since it is part grass, there and Bleakwind is a guarantee hit in rain, that is still a super effective move. He can tera to remove the grass type sure, but then Waterpon will lose the ability to absorb the spouts. I agree that the environment is more hostile to Kyogre, but I will argue that Kyogre is more fair than broken as he once was.
Torn ogre is still gonna 100% be good. At most it would make choice kyogre less viable cuz of thunderclap and the dragon bikes. Tera grass kyogre would make it a harder to remove via ogerpon and it would probably need to Tera so it doesn’t tank a 100% accurate bleak wind storm and if it does Tera then kyogre could use thunder to hit it super effectively. Raging bolt is also an amazing partner to kyogre since it beats bundle, resists ogerpon, and can Tera fairy infront of koraidon which also doesn’t really wanna tank a bleak wind storm. Miraidon is still a massive threat for torn ogre and it probably will affect its viability and usage, but I think it’ll still be alright if the right kyogre team comes out and handles miraidon.
TornZacOgre I feel will be a good comp. Kyogre completely threatens the ground and fire types that threaten Zacian, while Zacian is still a good Pokémon even post nerf and threatens Koraindon and Miraidon with Play Rough, while being slower than Koraidon means weather will be in your favor unless you run Scarf on Kyogre
@@Endershock1678100%. I was mostly talking in a single restricted context but that core is great too. Miraidon ogre is also something that’s gonna also be a busted restricted duo
I honestly think lando I and kyogre duo would be better because of miraidon Lando I will be able to take advantage of Sand sear storm in the rain and deal with miraidon You just gotta find a way to deal with bundle
I think Kyogre will be dominant again in this format. It will be a great counter to shut down potential Koraidon sun teams, and I think it will pair well with Miraidon, too.
Iron leaves: super effective on kyogre, groudon, koraidon Resist kyogre, groudon, koraidon Tera allow it to resist and sword dance to been even more dangerous (tera fire resist calyrex ice and flutter to one shot, tera fairy for all the dragon ubers)

there this Pokémon that can setup sun and is a dragon type and another dragon who setup Electric terrain, Is super fast and boost itself yeah, those two would be a problem so would you lose Kyogre Sempai? nah, *i'd WIN*
No way did you call kyogre a super ancient pokemon💀 I know its been called that before in the games but still. Call him 'beeg feesh' and leave it at that. But great vid!😃
Im gonna politely disagree on Raging Bolt being a common answer. Not cause it cant beat it of course, but I doubt you'll see Raging Bolt as often as Regulation F. Its going to be in a meta game that is both feirce for dragon type competition (both Raidons, Rayquaza, Gouging Fire) and one where Flutter Mane is in the sun much more often. So you'll see it less on Koraidon sun and more Groudon / Zacian. It also wont pair with Kyogre well as besides Wellspring... it also has a tough time with these counters.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Ground Kyogre Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Raging Bolt: 108-128 (46.5 - 55.1%) -- 67.2% chance to 2HKO "ohh what about thunderclap?!?!" Do Teras not exist anymore? Tera Ground and RIP Raging Bolt and Miraidon, that calc above is the **absolute** worst case scenario as nobody would run a 252 HP 252 Sp. Def Assault Vest Raging Bolt but that still gets 2 shotted while only being able to do 30% to Kyogre with Dragon Pulse. Ogerpon IMO is the real issue but that just means Kyogre might need to be used with 2 braincells instead of 0 aka using protect sometimes and having partner pokemon that can deal with Ogerpon quickly btw I'm not a fan of Kyogre, I truly believe that it together with Zacian Crowned and a few others were legendaries made to the absolute extreme and should be banned from VGC because any format they are in eventually warps itself around them. I just want to stress how absurdly OP Kyogre is.
I built a Kyogre team. I did it. Uhhhhh. I think it’s pretty good… 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Water Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0+ SpD Zamazenta-Crowned in Rain: 458-540 (118 - 139.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Water Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Koraidon in Rain: 336-396 (98.5 - 116.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Water Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Terapagos-Stellar in Rain: 618-728 (134 - 157.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO I kinda want to find a way to work helping hand onto my team to make it even more disgusting. But between torn-t support with tailwind/rain dance, as well as a trick room setter I can pretty much always ensure Kyogre’s moving first and make sure rain stays up almost all the time. So um yeah I think Kyogre’s still pretty good…
You are missing Storm Drain Tatsugiri in your list, it's a legit water type check, and great support arsenal with chilling water, icy wind and burst damage in Draco meteor
