My high school English teacher was absolutely OBSESSED with Edgar Allen Poe. Much of his work is too "thick" for the average 11th grader to comprehend, however. She would patiently interpret it for us, though. I did an "interpretive" read of "The Oval Portrait" for the class. Everyone had to do one. I chose it because it wasn''t very long. I had a stuttering problem which I seemed to overcome by reading, however, and it was somewhat pleasurable to be able to read it without stuttering! I was criticized for not putting enough emotion in it, though. If I hadn't had a stuttering problem, maybe I could have done a lot better job.

I first read this in high school. The vocabulary was a little difficult for me but I was obsessed with Poe's dark aesthetic. Wonderful reading, thank you so much Robert!

At times I thought Poe's English is 90% Latin and only 10% Anglosaxon. It makes for a challenging but rewarding read/listen, I think. It's not a style you come across often today.

Started watching the Netflix series last night. I thought I remembered the story but decided to listen to it before I went back to the show. And I thought to myself the best possible way to hear it would be through Robert’s dulcet tone but thought I was gonna have to ask home to do it. Imagine my surprise then when I looked and here it already is. ☺️👍🏻 sometimes life works out.
