despite spending the last nearly 20 years loving every bit of these guys, i finally saw them about a month ago. they opened with part 1 and it awakened this part of me that had been long buried. these dudes still play with so much energy and accuracy it’s overwhelming - frankly the only other times i can recall feeling such a way was when my kids were born or at my wedding. thank you dudes so much for keeping it going and giving me the chance to finally witness this shit in person 🥹
It was funny at the Denver show they actually started with 4-5 other songs first...and then Thomas said "Oh I guess we should play what you showed up here for haha" Opening with Act One with Jesse Korman was a welcome surprise.
I still have a burned cd of this demo in a cd case that I have…very glad that these were uploaded onto here, the Phantom versions don’t do it for me, love the grittiness of these versions so much more.
So funny but this was the most important record of my youth. It still hits, better then the professional studio one that came after, arguably, as good as doppelgänger. The best of this sound of this generation
These are classics in my book. The youthful audacity of these recordings are incomparable. Tom was in his prime at 16 for better or worse, but at least its immortalized here on the internets.
Tom graduated high school in 2003, a year before this recording, so he was probably closer to 18 or 19 (apparently Wikipedia doesn't have his exact birthdate, which is a wild bit of information to have never come up publicly anywhere). Still insane that he was writing this kind of crazy shit that young.
I remember downloading this on limewire back in the day. tonight i'm seeing them play phantom on the horizon, which misses a lot of magic from this absolute masterpiece. Excited to hear their take on it live. This is easily in my top 10 albums of all time, thanks for the memories.
After checking around online, I must have been mistaken. I'll have to check my archive later tonight to see what I have. If I have anything extra I'll be sure to come back and spread the word
IIRC ghostship has part 1 4 and 5 and then macaulay mcculkin. Macaulay mcculkin got put on doppelganger and then part 2 and 3 were added to POTH alongside rerecorded versions of parts 1 4 and 5
happy these demos are getting some recognition again. but ya this is the full Ghost ship demos ep. Phantom on the horizon has all of them. I believe their are no demos for parts 2 and 3 until POTH was released. could be wrong but from what i remember back in the day, their are no recordings of 2 and 3. If im wrong, send me the link for old versions of 2 and 3 haha
Oh he 100% did shred them. If you ever hear him live (especially nowadays) compared to any of the records his shrill screaming just is nowhere near the same as it once was.
Thomas is a warning to all unclean vocalists to learn proper vocal technique even if the sound isn’t exactly what you want in life. Because without it you’ll destroy your vocal chords.
