I think Thaddeus got FEV, and is gonna be a super mutant. If you look at rose she’s missing an arm. Ghouls don’t regenerate but FEV does. Maximus’s line is a misnomer
@ToLazyToThink0

That was my thinking too. The other thing I think John might have missed is that vault 31 was Bud's buds. They were junior executives. The real big wigs are presumably in some other vault elsewhere. That and while I'd be very surprised if they had anyone but vault tech drop the bomb after showing us that meeting, there must have been some unplanned aspect to it since the mom wouldn't have let the husband be out with the daughter if everything had gone to plan. Maybe they moved the plans up due to being discovered, or maybe vault tech just wanted to catch the other companies off guard.

@@ToLazyToThink0 Yeah, I suspect something unexpected happened with the bombs. FIrst question is - did Vault-Tec actually had a bomb or did they had to work with some proxy? Maybe the proxy launched the bomb ahead of schedule. Or maybe the Chinese attacked first anyway. Or one of the co-conspirators decided that they don't want any post-war competition and launched the nuke themselves ahead of schedule... The last one is now my go-to theory. In the end, this whole Vault-Tec plot was to get rid of all competition. It would so ironic and Fallout-y if one of the conspirators (maybe even Vault-Tec themselves) decided to get decieve their co-conspirators.

While I think it was FEV - or at least tainted with FEV - I don't think he'll become a Super Mutant, but instead he'll look human enough while retaining certain perks with functions like Ghoulish, Life Giver, Sun Powered, etc. Basically, the little-big mutations that give you benefits without making you look mutated, as seen in FO4 and FO76. However, having him return as a Super Mutant would be pretty cool from a narrative standpoint; maybe for the few previous episodes Super Mutants became a new recurring enemy and the protagonists just kill them, but then they're confronted with an old friend turned Super Mutant.

And the third evidence to that is that the Sierra Madre gala was supposed to happen. It's possible the Sinclair already had Sierra Madre under construction and didn't stop the construction in order to avoid suspiction. But why would he schedule the gala right after the nukes? If he wanted to avoid the gala costs, he would have scheduled it in the future some time after bombs. And if he wanted it to happen he would have made it happen earlier. I think that Sinclair wanted Sierra Madre to open and be profitable for some time before the nukes eventually dropping... but the nukes happened sooner.

Something to note about if Vault-Tec actually caused the great war or not: We see Cooper's daughter with her father performing at a birthday party when the war starts. Barb, her mother, is literally one of the highest ranking Vault-Tec executives to the point she was at that meeting: Why would she not have her daughter with her if she knew the world was going to end? Answer: She didn't. The war actually happened before Vault-Tec planned it to, and caught them with their pants down. It's a brilliant explanation that keeps in line the rest of the lore like unfinished vaults and the ambiguity of who actually shot first. Related to this and to reinforce your theory: one of the major themes of pre-war America we keep seeing in the show is that anyone who doesn't go along with the elites is immediately outcast as a "commie". It makes total sense House would be more than intelligent enough to not say anything against the plan knowing it'd turn the rest of the elites against him, and that nuclear war was inevitable anyways. It even preserves him being intelligent enough to predict when the war happens, as eventually he realizes the war is going to happen before Vault-Tec can initiate their plan anyways, and so tries to get the platinum chip before them but fails by only 20 hours as in line with FNV lore. I hope this is the way things proceed anyways - makes everything with House still fit perfect and preserves his portrayal in NV.
@DiceSully
@DiceSully Месяц назад
This is my view too. I think Vault Tec would have used their influence in the US government to disrupt any peace talks to buy themselves time to build the rest of vaults. But many vaults are not completed, some were clearly not ready or fully staffed if you read terminals. I agree that Vault Tec were caught out, maybe their efforts to prevent peace worked too well. The mother was called Barb btw, not Beth
@JB-xl2jc
@JB-xl2jc Месяц назад
Agreed too, I'm thinking Vault-Tec was disrupting any possibility for peace but wasn't QUITE as in-control as they thought they were and things spiraled a bit. After all, while we saw a major cross-section of American power in that meeting, there's another player who was completely and utterly absent... ANYONE with power in China. If the peace talks are continually stalled and the American new power armor causes them to get close to Beijing.... well, China might hit the button sooner than expected. There are also a few throwaway lines in FO2 from the ZAX unit in the SF BOS bunker which heavily suggest that some of the ZAX supercomputers went a bit rogue and may have been involved in the launch. So there's also the possibility that Vault-Tec was planning to do it but the ZAXs went a bit rogue on the exact date.
@l33tspaniard
@l33tspaniard 29 дней назад
IIRC House also doesn’t speak as enthusiastically in that meeting as the others who all immediately start spitballing vault concepts. Lore-wise he had already begun preparing for the bombs at that point, he may have tried to accelerate things and been caught off-guard like everyone else. I’ve always thought it possible that (almost) ALL of the potential ways for the war to start all happened at roughly the same time, causing a chain reaction that mixed incompetence and intent until neither mattered anymore.

Maybe someone worked out that it was those rads that cause the increasing mental degredation? The guys in the super duper mart are quite happy to trade 60 vials of the stuff for one body, so it cant be THAT hard to get a hold of, otherwise it would be worth a lot more, and they would run out rapidly. The ghoul is also on a hook up to it while he is in the grave, and he only gets dug up once a year, so having a multi years supply on hand seems unlikely if it is some rare super drug. There currently aren't any canon endings in the games that have any branching storyline.
@JB-xl2jc
@JB-xl2jc Месяц назад
@@kristinagraversgaard5328 There definitely are, depending on what you mean by branching. Fallout 1 has an entire canon from the memoirs of the Vault Dweller, who was male, sided with the vault over the muties, got Dogmeat x'd in Mariposa, and helped Ian go into hiding by faking the same. Fallout 2 has less branching, but canonically the Chosen One was male and had a child with one of the New Reno ladies ("Mr Bishop" that is said to control New Reno during the events of New Vegas is their son), and then went on to help Shady Sands incorporate the squatters and become very powerful, then defeated the Enclave. Fallout 3 has you canonically side with the BoS rather than tainting the water and killing everyone or nuking the Pentagon. No surprise there, but still. New Vegas we really aren't sure what happened yet. That's the one I'm sure we'll see a LOT more info on next season. There are a few different possibilities, from NCR winning and the legion dissolving followed by them getting nuked, to House winning despite fighting the NCR, all the way over to Wild Card ending where Tunnelers attack. We just don't really know yet. Fallout 4 is also much less decided, but it's implied based on the Prydwen still being a factor that either the Minutemen-BoS ending or the BoS ending was canonical. Railroad and Institute endings involve blowing up the Prydwen and eliminating the BoS's Commonwealth holdings, which makes both the Prydwen being a factor and "orders coming from the highest clerics in the Commonwealth" highly unlikely.

I theorise that vault 32 found out about vault 31 and what was going on. Vault 31 found out and retaliated by causing the blight and cutting off correspondence between vault 32 and 33. Further isolating vault 32 and destroying their food source could definitely cause the chaos we saw. Then the raiders break in using Rose's pip-boy, and find all the dwellers already dead. The imprisoned raiders telling Norman this is what sends him (and Chet) to explore vault 32. So the raiders having nothing to do with the destruction of 32, just coincidentally breaking in after the vault destruction (or being allowed to 'break in' by 31 to explain the destruction of the vault)

Regarding Vault 32 - they discover that the outer doors were opened from the outside, 2 years ago, using the pipboy of Lucy's mother. Since Rose (the mother) was a barely living ghoul, it's quite possible it was Moldaver. But whoever it was, they probably told the residents of Vault 32 the real nature of Vault 31 and the real purpose of 32 and 33. This would explain the graffiti like "we know" or "death to the management". The killing between Vault 32 residents was most probably original Vault 32 residents hunting those who came from Vault 31. As for why all of them died eventually? Maybe they commited basically a group suicide, maybe the ex-31s sabotaged the crops... or something more ominous... Vault 31 has control of some kind of failsafe that can neutralise 32 or 33 in case they go rogue. And the evens in the first episodes can be explained by a single throwaway line... that the inter-vault marriages/exchanges happen every 3 years. Moldaver knew that from Rose so she hired some wasteland thugs and got there in time to impersonate Vault 32 overseer and take part in the marriage. All that just to get hands on Hank.

@ShloppyShmeat 29 дней назад
The second part doesn't line up. Bud had direct contact with the overseers of vaults 32 and 33, and the overseers knew the purpose of the vault complex, having all been from vault 31 originally. This means Bud, and therefore, Hank likely knew that vault 32 had been compromised because nobody had been living there for years judging by the state that Norman found it in. This begs the question of why Hank would go through with the inter-vault marriage tradition when, logically, he should have knowledge that the inhabitants of vault 32 were slain. This plot hole is the biggest issue I have with the writing of the show. Still love the show, though.

On the ghoul drug. - It clearly can be produced post war, we just don't know the process. But the two guys in the super duper mart have some way of making it. Otherwise their business would've run out ages ago. I think the more interesting implication is what it means for ghouls now that the dealers are dead. - We also know it cannot restore an already feral ghoul to a non feral state as when Cooper and Lucy meet... Reg? The ghoul has huffed and drank every vial he's got but he is still turning. He asks cooper for a vial but it's pretty clearly not working on him anymore. I don't believe this is due to the body forming tolerance to the drug otherwise Cooper would have turned long ago given how much he's taken. Vault 32 found out about vault 31, possibly from Rose or Moldava. This is evidenced by the fact their overseer's corpse is still tied to the chair. The denizens tried to gain access to vault 31 and 31 flipped the killswitch. Blight killed the crops, the people eventually resorted to cannabilism and murdering each other over resource shortages. They couldn't ask the other vaults for help because 31 would've blocked communication. It's also implied 31 had contingencies in place for such a scenario as implied by Betty organizing a Vault 32 resettlement plan. With Steph being the interim overseer. Steph who is also from Vault 31. The entire experiment is meant to be Bud Askins baby. Proof of his theory that human survival all comes down to one word. Management.

The 'What happened to Vault 32' part actually seemed pretty clear to me and people are following red herrings. Just because the crops were dead doesn't mean they failed. They died out because there was no one left tending them. The protagonist's mother's Pip Boy was used to open the outer door years before the attack on 33. The graffiti was left by the raider/NCR remnants and not the occupants. Their leader seemed to know all about what was going on and must have been some kind of ghoul herself _or_ was actually part of Vault 31 and kept on ice for most of the time since the great war (my preferred theory) who left the vaults around the same time our protagonist's mother did. I would say its more likely that doctor barrows and his assistant in underworld from fallout 3 came up with something to just extends ghouls mental life span if you Have to push this shit into the lore as it stands. the FEV was used prewar in experiments as well (another fallout 3 vault where you meet best mutie fawkes) and the institute just continued on that with super mutant experiments thereby releasing all (or most of) of the super mutants in the commonwealth. No examples of ghoulification seem to be present in the FEV experiments in fallout 4 far as I could see. even the "centaur failures" in the same test vault in fallout 3 are the closest you could call to ghoulification caused by FEV exposure. so yeah that would kinda break lore unless he would get shown in the show that after being cured he decided to go research the feralization of ghouls next.

About what went down in Vault 32, it's interesting to see that they didn't just create a pair of vaults, one for the frozen Vault-Tec executives and one for the "breeding ground", they created 3. The existence of two connected vaults led by "managers" fits well with the corporate culture of 31's brain jar overseer: the two vaults are in competition. If the goal is to create the ultimate manager, you can not evaluate the performance of their team without another team to compare them to. As we hear from both vaults, 33 experienced a famine and 32 had its crops fail without any hint of emergency help being given to one another. They have a meeting every three years to exchange supplies and people but that's about it so maybe letting one of them fail and the other "annexes" it is part of the experiment. Now about what went down exactly in 32, we cannot say for sure but it seems obvious there was a crisis that ended up in violence. Would'nt be the first time a vault just collapses on its own I guess. Maybe an electoral campaign went wrong, maybe someone from 32 got close to being elected, threatening the integrity of the program, prompting the 31ers among them to use violence plunging the vault into civil war. What I found weird was the lack of information 33 had regarding the situation prior to the raider invasion. Was one of Moldaver's men manning the overseer terminal and sending occasional "nothing to report" mails to McLain? That's the only way I could explain why 33 opened its doors. I wouldn't imagine McLain not checking in on his competitor from 32 every so often, especially if he is ready to marry off his daughter to one of them.

@coleabrams4534 Месяц назад
The chalkboard is vague, it could mean the bomb was used that year or it could be your explanation. But Lucy also states that her mother died in 2277. Explaining both away is way more difficult and convoluted than it just being an error by the writers.

@@TheCorpsehatch I mean, you can choose to believe that is what the chalkboard is saying. Even if we are strictly stating that the bomb had to come after 'the fall', it doesn't even mean it can't be the same year. I'm just saying that there are multiple hints in the show that the date of the bombing is 2277. Lucy's mom died in 2277, the last date on the chalkboard was 2277 and a library book is explicitly shown to have it's last entry in 2276. The show is implying pretty hard that the date was 2277. I'm not implying malice on the part of the writers or anything, but Occam's razor says it's likely just a mistake on their part. It takes way more work to interpret that they intended a different date than the one they pretty well explicitly state twice. Anyone who knows nothing about the lore would watch the show and rightfully guess that the writers intended Shady Sands was bombed in 2277.

@@TheCorpsehatch And Lucy's mom dying the same year as the one written on the board? I'm just saying the only concession needed to be made for the date to be 2277 is to admit that the writers made an error in the timeline. For any other theory, you need to go against all the evidence the show presents and then come up with ideas that are not presented in the show. The show was designed to be watchable by people who have no history with Fallout. When Lucy's mom died in 2277, when a chalkboard says 'Fall of Shady Sands' while pointing at a nuclear cloud, and with the credit sequence going out of its way to show a book's last entry was the year prior, how would anyone new watching not assume 2277? When there is no evidence or mention of any other date. The showrunners aren't looking to confuse or trick their audience. Why would they word it as 'The Fall of Shady Sands'? Just to confuse new watchers? There are no words that say 'beginning' or 'began' or 'economic fall' or 'political fall' or anything else. Instead it has an arrow pointed right a picture of a bomb. Any reasonable person could interpret that as the date of the nuking. Coming up with any other date means ignoring every hint the show gives. On top of which, as a last point, when has "The Fall" of anything ever been interpreted as the year in which the fall began and not when it ended? People say the Fall of Rome was 476, the Fall of the Roman Republic was 27 BC, the Fall of Constantinople was 1453, the Fall of Babylon was 539 BC, the Fall of Saigon was 1975. There are many, many examples of this wording and yet I have never seen an example where the date given next to the words "The Fall of" has ever meant the beginning of the end. You have to add words that aren't there, purposefully exclude visuals and lines, and come up with theories that have zero evidence in the show to come up with a date other than 2277.

I enjoyed the show but a few thoughts: 1) probably my biggest gripe is the sudden relocation of Shady Sands to next door to Los Angeles (when in reality it was a lot further north with the Hub and Junktown between it and LA). I would have preferred if "Shady Sands" was Adytum as it was in the LA Boneyard relates to the original Fallout and would still have as much meaning to both the Fallout-fan audience and non-Fallout fan audience. 2) My original thought for the Vault 32/33 experiments was it was going to be exploring how people react to a life of haves and have nots and what happens when they integrate. Vault 33 having access to plentiful food, clean drinking water whilst Vault 32 had famines and dirty water. Seeing how the Vault 32 residents would react to a situation - resort to cannibalism or try to kill the residents of Vault 33 when they integrate. If we were adding in Vault 31 that could have been a control vault that could see the two situations to see the reaction to knowing both situations. 3) Love the amount of eastereggs and references to the games. It felt like they had done their homework. My favourite easter egg however was in Cooper Howards house where it shows he starred in a film called "The Man and his Dog" referring to "The Boy and his Dog" the film that inspired the concept of Dogmeat and many other things in the Fallout series. Really liked that subtle reference. 4) The opening scene was pretty much perfect. The subtle cues about the tensions between America and China, the weatherman asking what the point in doing weather if the world was going to end, the innocence of a kids birthday party all taken away by the bombs falling (deathly silence) then seeing once friends turning on each other (the man not letting his friend into the fallout bunker he had in his house). It felt 100x better than the opening to Fallout 4 as it gave more time to build up to the bombs dropping and chance to relate to the characters. 5) The soundtrack was brilliant. A mix of Fallout Radio songs and Fallout OSTs. Saving the big drop of the Fallout 4 theme for the reveal of the New California Republic flag in Vault 4. The jokes about people not liking the fiddle music (Minuteman Radio) and how people complain about it just made me think of all the Minuteman Radiant quests that Preston sent me on. 6) Love how slimy Vault Tec are portrayed. It gives a real insight into what corporations like Vault Tec, RobCo, BigMT, Repcon etc. were up to and the corruption behind the scenes. I also love how Bud Askins didn't become a proper robobrain but more akin to a Roomba with a brain in a jar. Made me think of The Think Tanks, Professor Calvert and John Caleb Bradberton. 7) Love the use of the creatures in the series. The Brotherhood Knight against the Yao Guai repeatedly swearing makes me think of any time I ran into something similar with little plan on how to survive. The gulper was creepy and a great boss fight. Surprised at the lack of supermutants being mentioned (other than the arm of one in the Enclave facility) 8) Love the Brotherhood in this. They seem like a military organisation with a clear command structure. They relay information across radio to create an image of the Enclave doctor. They have training bases, multiple airships (The name of this one is an alternative name for King Arthurs ship in Arthurian legend - same origin to the Prydwyn), a real sense of power and influence. Wasn't too keen on changing Elders to Clerics and mixing the terms around but I can live with it. Overall some really good aspects included. It felt very well executed and I am looking forward to Season 2 to see where they go from here. Between this and the Last of Us last year there are definitely some great video game adaptations coming forward.

The NCR on the other hand exists in every single post-apocalyptic movie or tv series. I am getting tired of the BOS' primacy though, I prefer them as a mysterious secluded society who comes and snatches prewar tech if anyone dares to flaunt it.
