The history of Rosate began in the Middle Ages, when the first church dedicated to the martyr Saint Stephen was built. The present church was built in the 19th century in neoclassical style, preserving the old bell tower. The tower was secured with the dismantling of the bells in 1887, which were broken to be recast in the current concert: one of the most famous in Italy as it preserves all the ancient traditions.

The Barigozzi foundry made eight bells in B flat major in 1888, also building the new belfry, made entirely of cast iron as an architecturally perfect work, which makes this tower unique in the world. The sixth bell was replaced in 1952 because it was cracked, the others are original. In 2010, it was decided to restore the mechanical keyboard for the manual ringing of the bells; through the initiative of a very clever friend of mine, the bells are now completely manual again.
The bells are rung with a concert in a minor key, since we are in Lent. The fifth Sunday is dedicated to the True Cross of Christ, when Communion on Easter Day was brought forward because there were too many people going to church and they could not all make it in one day. At the end, the blessing is given with Jesus present, which is why the bells all ring, bringing the blessing to the sick and infirm.
The first important church was built in 1059 in the Romanesque style, and was later modified in the Renaissance and Baroque styles, being the most important church in the entire plain. The central church was home to a large chapter of canons until 1797, when the French invasion wiped out centuries of history and culture, partially recovered with the construction of the new church in the mid-19th century.
