The famous Falkirk Wheel at Tamfourhill, Falkirk yesterday linking up the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. This wide drone hyperlapse view nicely shows the swing footbridge being operated to allow a canal boat to progress - near the end of the video in the bottom left 😊

My wife and I took a tour of Scotland in May. We were taken here, and we saw it in operation. We were all blown away. It's more impressive up close than what you see here. One of the highlights of the tour.

Falkirk Wheel) - первый в мире вращающийся судоподъёмник, соединяющий каналы Форд-Клайд и Юнион. Его назвали в честь соседнего города Фолкерк в центральном районе Шотландии. I visited first in 2003 not long after it opened. Went up on the wheel. Along the aqueduct through the tunnel to the turning area. Turned and took the return route to the lower basin.

Шотландия-горная страна. И для перевозки (продукции, людей, в т. ч туристов) удобнее использовать судоходство. Вот и создают каналы (искусственные реки), но они располагаются на разных высотах(из-за гор). Вот и придумали это сооружение. На самом деле его механизм прост, но выглядит эффектно. Все простое-гениально.
