Another busy week. Clearing and hauling brush away so I can plant fruit trees. I get my truck buried in the mud trying to pick up more stuff where we got the greenhouse. Planting fruit trees. Farmhouse cooking. Time for the Tent.
Hey Joe, always carry a pair of vise grips and some extra brake fluid. If that ever happens again you snap those vise grips on that line, but drive slower than normal because the truck will pull to the side that working, but it’ll get you home. One other thing, all for having beef cows, but who’s gonna milk that dairy cow when y’all are at the tent? I believe you have to milk it every day.
If you keep lifting all that heavy stuff you could end up with another hernia, you've got to take it easy for a few more weeks and let the inside of your body completely heal. Just saying.
We all have had days in the mud. Neighbor got his tractor stuck and called me. Got the JD 455sg backhoe stuck pulling him out. Took one more neighbor with a track machine dozer to pull us out. Stay close to your friends.
I never transplanted a single fruit tree but I did move 1200 6-12 foot evergreens with a tree spade with only bone meal sprinkled inside the hole on the advice of an old tree farm owner. Achieved over 95 percent success. Side note, most of them were moved to line the road from the airport when Charles and Diana visited Sudbury.
When Melissa was talking to the lady and watching the tractor trying to get out to your truck, there was a cattle feeder right in front of them. That’s what you need for your cows.
Also, a lot of work! You go easy, please. Tomorrow, the next day, and the next, and eventually most will get done, and you and Melissa can focus on your garden, cutting grass, and fishing!
Loving the new animals coming in! And a green house too! Wow! 😮and garden....plus fruit trees! Getting to be a real farm! Congratulations to you both! Fantastic! 😍
Love the video Joe. After all that y’all have been dealing with I am sure you and Melissa can’t wait for fishing at the tent. Y’all have some fun and relaxation. Agree with you on the mic. The ducks geese loons and bird sounds in the background makes me feel like I’m there with y’all.
Joe you need to spray your whole body- you are holding that brush right up against your body. I just had a tick crawling on my coffee table- i’m hearing it’s is going to be a tough year for ticks.
That's what I'm talking about!! Back to the good old Joe videos, I was worried that you might be doing to much lifting, after your surgery, I was right.. Hang in there buddy, you'll be back in no time.. So excited for you getting a cow, like you don't have enough to do!! As always I'm looking forward to seeing what's happening next. Stay safe and have a great day.🤓👍🤓👍.Randy.
The best tick and chigger repellent I’ve found is Sawyers Permethrin. You treat your clothes, shoes, socks, etc and it’s good thru several washings. Very effective for mosquitos too. It comes in a yellow bottle with black letters. Highly recommend it.
Joe you should be able to lower the plow down and adjust it up without taking it off the ground leaving pressure on it to adjust the depth of the plowing . My son's 1948 Ford 8 N he can adjust it with a hand crank to pick up the tractor arms.
you need to get one of those Yankum kinetic recovery ropes to keep around the farm or in your truck for times like that when you get stuck. I thought it would be just sales hype but they work better than any rope or chain when trying to pull a stuck vehicle out
Joe, who gets to milk the cow, feed it during winter etc. You and M like to go ice fishing etc overnight and you have your numerous tent trips fishing, deer and duck season etc
Stay tuned. We always get everything figured out. We are already scheduled for a 3 nights back up at Borderview lodge on Lake Of The Woods ice fishing this coming February.
Homesteading is a lot of work...but I know you're up to the task Joe! Those bikes look like they will make it thru the trails just fine in the woodlot around the property.
Joe, I live 15 miles north of you. There is a nursery in Cherry (Cherry Greenhouse) that has a bare root tree sale every year beginning of May. Had great luck there, prices are great, trees are guaranteed and owners are wonderful. Lots of fruit trees. Just a FYI.
You folks have a good time on opening day of fishing, bring back a good mess of filets, be safe and have fun. Glad you got your truck back and the brakes working good. Everything is looking good around the homefront. Catch you on your next video. Fred.
What’s the status of the guest house, haven’t seen anything for a while now? Can’t believe that that front garage hasn’t gotten the best of your OCD for clean and organized yet 😬
Looks like sick leave is over. The poor ford is stuck, should have been a Chevy! Lol! They can all get stuck. I would say pulling with a tractor would be better pulling from the back, since the tires do better.
Joe, your cows need a livestock shelter from rain, wind, snow, and heat--very important. You can build one or buy one. I've had both milk cows and cattle, and it is very important they have a shelter. Three to 3.5 walls. Look for designs for small herds.
Joe you will.really work so hard I never saw anybody that works hard like you especially a man for your age you have to relax your hernia so you don't re-injure your hernia next time it rains do not go on any grass with your truck you'll just sink again
Joe , Y’all got a big undertaking adding Cattle to your mix . I grew up on a Ranch in Oklahoma with an average 120 angus all times, we did not have cows to milk just sell at market auction for beef . I moved to California later in life to pursue a Career in the Entertainment Stage Technical Industry. Round Bales are your friend, but we grew and made up regular bales as well . Good Luck and enjoy .
Curious Joe did you give an update on your little house you were working on last time I saw a video it looked like you were getting close to finishing it thanks for sharing all your projects and all that good cooking that potato salad always looks so yummy take care God bless
I love your RU-vid channel from hunting & fishing to your farm land . I could watch you for hours . You have a very nice family , you show how it’s done . Thank you ! I wanted to ask if you sold your construction business?
Joe, how are you doing since your surgery? I had the same surgery 2 weeks ago. I know it’s been a lot longer since you had yours, but watching you in this video, I can’t wait to feel that good. ‘
The first 2 weeks are tough but as you know, week 2 is better than week one. You will not start feeling totally normal for 6 weeks. You will feel fine after 4 but you feel the mesh stretching when you do something normal which is uncomfortable. By 6 weeks the doctor says you are good to go but you know better because when you lift a 50 pound bag of feed you still feel some pain. By 8 weeks you are awesome but like me with planting those trees, I could tell I was over doing it. You still have sore days because of what you did. That is as far as I am but when I look "down there" it is sure nice not seeing the bulges.
I appreciate your Videos Joe! When I get off work, I watch your videos when I do my weekly chores…theirs always something to do, gotta keep it moving! 👍👍👍Been here since your fishing videos on the new boat dock to your fishing area when in season with your bobber and pork steaks!
Sometimes it´s easy to think that only we have problems in this world so it´s very refreshing to see people share the difficulties they face as well. Thank you as always for sharing.
I love watching people clear brush, clear lawns and stuff like that. It always looks so nice afterwards especially when its large areas against wooded areas. I watch this dude do free lawncare sometimes. I love the ones he clears where you can barely see the house but u know its there. Can't wait til the duckies get bigger🥰🥰🥰. Tyfs God bless you
Joe when i worked the farm we plowed at depth of 10-12" and at that depth it it disc out great that was when i lived in IL but up here in Williams Mn it seems 8-10" is good as our top soil is only 12" then clay have fun with the 3 row we always had problems keeping it set so we used a two row and also had a 12 row i really liked the two row takes a little longer but does a fantastic job but that's many years ago like 40 50 and 60s
Just putting landscape fabric around the trees a couple of inches out side the fence , Is not only beneficial for the trees , less weeds and grass right next to the trees . There's other benefits not having other things competing right to the trees .
Good Morning Joe, will you be getting a couple of pigs this year has well. I hear Highlander Cows are great has well very friendly. I hear they make 2 gals a day. 😊
I love how you "get 'er done"! planning and getting set up for your new cow coming: cutting, trimming, mowing, plowing, planting, and getting fencing and feeding aids planned and on-site. Also how you held it together -at least on video - after getting your truck stuck so badly. Bravo!
Joe I heard someone say to keep deer away from your fruit trees cut up a bar of Irish Spring bath soap and take a pair of panty hose and cut them in to pieces ,tie the soap pieces up in the pices of panty hose with fishing line and hang them from the branches and fence supposed to keep deer away. hope it helps.
Joe, you need to get yourself a small excavator with a claw and a bucket. Easier picking up those trees and stuff and digging the holes for planting. Just another toy!!! LOL
Some cherry leaves/twigs/etc. can be deadly for cows/goats/sheep and horses. Not sure whether that applies to what you have, but you might want to check.
a2a2 is when they are grass fed, so the milk is better for you. I love a2a2 milk. Also I would put the grapes near the chickens. just saying to give you some thought work.
Actually a2 is not from grass fed. The cow itself has to produce that a2 protein. Grass fed will give the milk more Omega 3 but the a2 is not from diet but instead the cow itself. Grass fed beef is fine but it tastes horrible in my opinion (the meat) when you are doing a beef for butcher. That does not matter with this one since she is a milk cow. We are also going to get a Guernsey steer, probably at the same time but they will all get grain and hay and grass. I want a tasty steak. Lol.
Yay! Melissa is rocking the camera. I tend to concur, I bet Joe wasn’t happy right then. Another benefit of those cows will be the manure. Put it on those growing trees and they’ll be happy little trees.
