Today we are going to find out the fascinating Story of Greg's Pristine VN Holden HSV SV5000 and its a royal story at that. Greg is the owner of this pristine 1989 VN Holden HSV Commodore SV5000 that was original owned by the Sultan of Malaysia. the HSV was shipped to Malaysia new in 1989 and used in the Sultan's Car collections until 2008. Bill Lee was a Mechanic for HSV in Osbourne Park, Western Australia would fly to Malaysia and service all the Holden's and HSVs in the collection. In 208 the Sultan of Malaysia requested for Bill Lee to shipped this VN HSV SV5000 and a VN HSV Group A back to Perth to be sold.
Well Bill Lee keep the Group A HSV and Sold the SV5000 original to a farmer in Wagin for the Farmer's son but he change is mind and return the vehicle. He then sold it to Steve in Busselton. Steve did some work to the Vehicle, such as respraying the Roof, Bonnet and Boot as they were faded due tot he sun and he had a bonnet scoop. But he could bear to change any other part of the cars is it was to good.
Greg friend Ron found out about this VN SV5000 for sale and was nagging Greg to see the vehicle, so he gave in and saw the HSV. He brought it as soon as he saw it. He love the Rose Grey Paint and the way the car had been looked after all these years. That was 14 Years ago now and since owning the vehicle, Greg has only travelled 6000kms in it. The HSV only has around 72000kms on the clock.
Also the HSV was only used by the Body Guard to drive the Sultan's children to and from school every day, that's it. We told Greg that we interviewed Jeff with his SV88 and the SV5000 is two models up from that and Like Jeff's, you see the HDT and The HSV crossover in the vehicles with the badging.
Greg has all ways been interested in cars and learned how to drive a 12 years old as you do in the country with his family. However, his old brother Alan inspired him as he was fixing Greg cars, so he learned as he went and love it. He has always loved cars.
As you can see on this 304 Holden V8 Engine and bay, the combination of HDT and HSV Badges that represents this crossover period at Holden. The engine is back by a 4 speed transmission and a VL HDT diff, that was shorter than the VN Diffs, allowing bigger boots on the rear. The HSV is number 43 out of 359 HSV SV5000 and 1 of only 60 in the Rose Grey Options, so it a rare car indeed.
The immaculate interior of the SV5000 is tunning with Leather Trim with Red Piping on the seats and all the original options are in the car, including the HSV stereo. It is beautiful. I have to admit, that I was not a VN Model Fan back in the day, but this is amazing. Another piece of Australian Motoring History preserved.
Greg also has a huge collection of Die Cast Cars and posters. He first started collecting the Trax Cars because he could not afford the real ones and of time it grow, now he has hundreds of model cars in the house and the Mancave as well. Its a very impressive display.
Thank you Greg for allowing us to interview you regarding your HVS SV5000 and to see your collection.
