I think we should at least be grateful, The RoP was given to Leslye Headland (of Acolyte); although I'd be lying if there wasn't a part of me that would be curious to see how ridiculously off kilter she could take it. We'll always have the books and Jackson's original trilogy; shit The Hobbit's acceptable now! To my prior point of only (majority) of true fans knowing what his initials meant; those sort of questions would have been in my interview if I'd been looking for someone to work on it; and - who originally forged Aragorn's sword? - Who is Estel and what does their name mean? - The names of the fives wizards? - What is the Ainulindale? Anybody involved now that could answer those questions should know better and are the true evil compared to just the ignorant!

Careful...details like that will lead these activists have Frodo mounting Sam doggystyle while on their way to Mordor.

Another difference, Jackson's trilogy tried to stay faithful to Tolkien's work, where's this doesn't even try and just take odd bits and abuse them!!

The sad thing, the really sad thing...is I kinda love the casting of Rory Kinnear as Tom Bombadil. He's lovely, he's warm and affable and charming and he does heartful and fuzzy so well. But with a sliiiight undercurrent of something a little bit dark, or uncertain, or unknowable. He's got a background in theatre and Shakespeare and it all just makes sense to me. His casting makes sense to me. I don't know if it's 'dream' casting, but it's probably 'as close as we're likely to get' casting, perhaps. The really tragic thing is knowing I'm probably going to hate what they 'do' with him. Sigh.

I assume that was supposed to be Shelob, too, since they like to just say, "LOOK! It's Tolkien stuff!" rather than bother with lore. I don't know if they'll remember that they did that and they'll probably have some dumb excuse for it.
