Great review as usual, but one thing I wish you could care more - since you use a6500 now, when reviewing lenses, think of us using a6000 and a6300 that we (heavily) rely on the len's OSS for video shooting. When you do reviews on a6500, we don't know how those lenses would actually perform....

Hey, TM! Just another fan here! I'll get straight to it: I'm half deaf, and this year I've noticed RU-vid now slaps the CC (closed caption) logo on any video, regardless if it's automated or user-created. Automated is great, but it's obviously not perfect, occasionally gets annoying, and I find it personally upsetting that there's no longer a way to filter out automated and user-created CCs. I've just learned how to do it, and I was hoping you would allow me the opportunity to gain more experience by adding accurate subtitles to your videos. If you're interested, let me know a better way to contact you so that we can discuss this?
@asaschlobohm

how do you add subtitles as a def person?
@NyneIX9
@NyneIX9 3 года назад
@@asaschlobohm I said I am half-deaf, not completely deaf lol... So, what I do is use headphones (sometimes with a headphone amp) to boost volume levels and be able to listen closely to the speech. Thus, I go from there and start building subs using the transcript button on the bottom right of the video. It's been a while, though, so I'm not sure what the steps are or if it's the same process.

Reminds me of working with the Rokinon 35mm f/1.2. Super bright and incredible optical quality, almost no distortion or chromatic aberration, just a pleasure to work with. I got it to replace my Sony 35mm f/1.8, and I'm so happy I did; I usually am not too much of a pixel peeper, but the sharpness and especially the chromatic aberration of that lens wide open killed me. It might be worth taking a look at the Kamlan as well, but I might also try too take a look at some vintage lenses if I want something more in that portrait range.
@AgnostosGnostos
@AgnostosGnostos 5 лет назад
I doubt that the second version of Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 will have the same price of the first version. I have bought the first version of the Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 new for 110€ and the Kamlan 28mm f/1.4 new for 125€, both from eBay. The original Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 isn't really a sharp lens even at f/8 but at f/1.1 it offers the experience of very shallow depth of field with little money. That is very important for amateurs like me. The Kamlan 28mm f/1.4 is by far a sharper lens at f/8. It has good sharpnes in the center even at f/1.4. However at 28mm f/1.4 the depth of field is significantly less shallow than at 50mm f/1.1. In case the forthcoming second version of Kamlan 50mm f/1.1 has a price at around 150€ I will buy it immediately without second thought.

All those classic Hollywood movies where the heroine would be in soft focus. I'm not sure Arthur R's photogenic Mrs would appreciate her laughter lines being 'tack sharp'. Perhaps the only exception is he may want her beautiful blue eyes in sharp focus.

Sweet, thank for giving us the options; you analysis and breakdown of the merits of the different"contenders in the same bracket is very helpful. I personally see this lens as an alternative to vintage lenses, coming in at a "peak brightness", if you can call it that, comparable only to some really exotic glass and with a lot of vintage feeling. I'm glad Kamlan managed to fix some or even most of the CA as that made the lens feel very "toy lens" previously. This is quite tempting even if it's not quite a "Noctilux" very tasteful.

I got it used for around 700PLN which is about $160 despite the PLN basically plummeted recently. For such price you cannot beat it. And I can use it alsoo on Sone E whit cheap adapter.

Much much better than the first one! The main drawback I noticed other than the CA when wide-open (even though it's leagues ahead of the previous generation) is some significant loss of contrast when hit with direct light (though didn't mind the flaring and though it added to the character of the lens). Other than that, this is a nice budget lens.

They need to make a Leica-M mount version of this so we can make it autofocus with the Tech-Artpro LM-E autofocus adapter. On a FF camera, it would give 75mm field of view which would be pretty good for portraits. I'm loving my 85mm f1.8 and this would be less sharp but render better out of focus backgrounds and perform better in low light. On the sharpness thing, most people hate seeing their wrinkles and spots on the 85mm so I wouldnt mind giving them a more blurred image that is more flattering to their eyes.. even if it wasnt the truth
@kristiyandimitrov5519
@kristiyandimitrov5519 5 лет назад
Yeah, that is not how that works. This is 50mm lens FF equivalent and it will give you exactly 50mm field of view on FF camera. It gives you 75mm on this APSC body. And even if it was 50mm field of view for crop as you thought the calculation works the other way around and on FF it would've been ~33mm field of view and not 75.
@FarEastSurvival

@@kristiyandimitrov5519Thanks for reminding me. I always get confused calculating how APSC focal lengths translate to FF. I have APSC lenses and FF lenses as well as APSC cameras. My Sony 35mm f1.8 sony APSC lens on my FF body (A7III) gives me a similar FOV as my Zeiss 55mm F1.8 if the FF camera is in APSC-auto mode. When I turn that off, I get a wider view with corners cut off. I have to remember focal length is focal length in FF terms. Thanks again

We have a DSLR, but want something more compact for traveling with, so I am about to purchase an A6000 with the kit lens. But I'm between a couple other lenses and would love your recommendation. We want something sharp, that will take in the beauty of Italy, will have good compression and will be good in low light. I'm stuck between the Sony 35mm (which I know is what you took with you), the Sigma 30mm f 1.4, or the Sigma 16mm f 1.4. I figured you'd be a good person to ask, because you've done the trip were about to do and you know photography! Love your channel!
