I can imagine they implement a new mechanic in the game where the impostor can have bloody footprints after killing a crewmate for a second and the footprints disappear after a bit on both the floor and the person's feet. But the crewmates can also walk on the blood and get bloody footprints as well. That way the crewmates can follow them a short distance to know if they hopped into a vent or walked out of the room.
